I am a full-spectrum doula with the NY Doula Project
Whether you are birthing at home, a birthing center, or in a hospital, I will be by your side throughout the process, providing reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, making suggestions for labor progress, and helping with relaxation, soothing touch, positioning and other techniques for comfort and relief. My initial in-person consult is free of charge and allows us to talk and determine if we will be a good fit. If you decide to have me as your doula, I will provide two in-person pre-natal visits including Birth Plan consultations, unlimited phone, text and email support for two weeks prior to "due date" until birth, full physical and emotional presence during labor and including up to 2 hours post-birth, as well as one postpartum visit (check-in, processing of the birth, lactation support, sharing photos & more). If you are interested in any birth services, please contact me no matter your budget.

The birth of our son was a wonderful, empowering experience and it would not have been so smooth without Sophie. She was such a comforting, supportive, and attentive presence all throughout, from the prenatal visits to labor and early post-partum. She gave my husband and me the confidence we needed for this challenging and incredible journey. I really appreciated how dedicated she was to my comfort during labor, especially during the tougher moments – the ride to the hospital, check-in, and triage. She made sure I had enough energy and remained hydrated. Above all, whenever I felt discouraged, she just knew how to keep me going with her words. I really think I could not have had the unmedicated birth I was hoping for without her and I could not be more grateful.
The reason we wanted a doula was because we wanted to have as natural a birth as possible. Since neither of us are from the US we felt unsure about how best to navigate the healthcare system. We were recommended Sophie and she truly couldn’t have supported us better! From the very first time we met she engaged so thoroughly, giving us endless tips and advice about how best to manage the pregnancy, prepare for the birth and even managing life as new parents. In between the visits she was always super helpful and quick to respond if we ever needed to ask advice via email or text. But all of this help during the build up phase, or postpartum phase, fades in comparison to how much she supported us through the actual birth. She helped us feel secure and confident in what we were doing and was always encouraging and positive, and stayed calm and assertive. At the end it was the most ecstatic and euphoric experience of my entire life. The hospital staff were kind and professional, but the addition of Sophie, who stayed with us every minute of the long birth and gave us all her attention from beginning to end, really meant a lot since that continuous care is invaluable at such vulnerable moment in your life. She was giving me massage, soothing strokes and counter pressure during the contractions, she used heating pads on my back and cooling towels on my forehead, she helped me change position to reduce pain and she made sure I stayed hydrated and kept reminding me to relax and breath properly through the entire birth. When I felt like I couldn’t do it any longer, she still believed in me and kept encouraging me. I always felt very comfortable and secure in her presence, and I couldn’t have expected better support from her. We can’t recommend Sophie highly enough to other expecting couples.
My husband and I used The Bradley Method and we cannot say enough about how wonderful it was having Sophie with us for the birth of our first child. She is an extraordinary listener and a clear communicator. She took time to understand us and our desired approach to birth, and proved to be an invaluable member of the inner circle of our birth team.
My husband was a terrific support and partner, but there is an added comfort having another woman present, who was fully committed to supporting me as well.
Sophie provided unassuming, non-invasive, yet strong & insightful support, before, during, and after the birth. She was a tremendous encourager when our plan went slightly off course, and we were induced three weeks before my EDD. We both found her presence and demeanor calming, and truly believe that her suggestions and help with positions helped my labor progress with confidence and speed. I'm still in awe of my amazing birth experience, and happy that Sophie was a part of it!
Sophie is an amazing doula. With her support, we gave birth to our baby completely naturally, in a hospital (NYU), without any complications/tearing. Our son was large (9.25 lbs / 23”), and she was able to get us through the entire experience smoothly and without worry.
Sophie is quite professional, organized, and thorough, and has a calming presence both in person and on the phone. She exudes at once a strength and a peacefulness that are extremely useful in the weeks surrounding birth. Sophie became our doula with short notice; we contacted her about 7 weeks prior to our due date. She was very kind and accommodating with the timing. We met with her twice in our home prior to the birth and consulted by phone. Sophie had a lot of great tips and useful printouts which helped us prepare for labor, birth, and postpartum care. Sophie also knows many strategies for navigating a hospital birth and kept all of our wants and needs in mind throughout the entire labor process.
On the actual day of labor, Sophie was the rock we needed to keep both me and my husband stable and calm. She consulted by phone as soon as labor started and helped at our home when labor become more intense. With her guidance, we arrived at the hospital only for active labor—preventing unnecessary or premature medical intervention. Throughout labor, Sophie helped with hydration, positions, movements, and massages that motivated me through my contractions. At the hospital she simultaneously kept our nurses and doctors on point with our birth plan and kept me focused and in ideal positions.
Sophie was the perfect doula for us and likely will be for you too. She is a very straight forward person which is perfect for the guidance you need through labor and is extremely calming and kind. The doctor at our birth was blown away by Sophie’s abilities and we were too. We cannot recommend her enough.
It’s actually hard for us to put into words how fabulous Sophie was, and how vital she was to our birth experience. We couldn’t have done it without her. Sophie was a calming and reassuring presence who internalized our personalities from our initial visits, and knew just what to do and say to each of us to be the most helpful. Having Sophie next to me as I labored, encouraging me and reminding me that the contractions I felt were “good pain” and that my body loved this pain, helped me relax into the experience, allowing my body to do the work it knew how to do. But Sophie was at least as helpful to my partner, who felt infinitely more confident in her ability to make decisions and support me once Sophie arrived on the scene.
Sophie made us both feel like no matter what was happening or how unsure we were, everything was going to be okay. Our fear melted away as Sophie seemed to remember everything we forgot – positions to try, imagery to focus on, pictures to take, sustenance, breathing strategies. And when things didn’t go exactly according to plan, Sophie didn’t miss a beat. It felt like we were under the watchful eye of a guardian angel – Sophie was ever-present but unobtrusive; able to lead but willing to follow; she was the MVP of our team.
The birth of our daughter was fast and unexpected as she decided to arrive three weeks before her due date; however, my partner and I were able to weather the labor with confidence and deliver our baby girl naturally thanks to Sophie's invaluable help and advice. I did not think to hire a doula until it hit me that delivering a baby naturally may be more difficult than I expected. We were so lucky to find Sophie - she is knowledgable, kind, present, concerned and a great listener. She ,met with us in person twice before delivery, was always available to answer our questions leading up to the birth, was an excellent advocate for us in the delivery room, and helped me with self-guided breastfeeding during the first hour of my daughter's life. My labor was short and quick, but I was fully prepared because of Sophie's help. So grateful to her for her presence and help during one of the most important moments of our lives.
I highly recommend Sophie as a doula. Overall, she was very knowledgeable, prepared, communicative, and a calm, soothing presence. Prior to the birth, my husband and I had two prep meetings with her. Those meetings were invaluable to a successful birth. We talked through our ideal birth, how she could support us, and how to handle difficult medical decisions. During the pushing stage, the doctor's and nurses' instructions were confusing. Sophie physically put me in the position they wanted, which was a relief from the stress of trying to understand the instructions and it all made perfect sense when she put me in the position. During an hour of stitching, Sophie was by my side the entire time, encouraging me. She got food for us after the birth and helped me get situated in the recovery room. About a week after, we met to debrief about the birth and had a great time processing, laughing, and reliving the birth with someone who had experienced it with us. She played a huge role in making our birth experience a positive one, and we are so appreciative that we had her support.
We are so happy we chose Sophie to be our doula. She’s a natural! She was supportive when we needed support, and a leader when we felt overwhelmed. To call her an advocate is just the beginning. Not only was Sophie open-minded and accepting, but she was also so empowering! I gave birth without an epidural and it was the most empowering act of my life. Sophie was undoubtedly an integral part. Beforehand, she helped us prepare by recommending a great class and meeting with us to discuss our birth plan. We immediately felt like we had the best birth team. When I began early labor, I remember telling Sophie on the phone that my contractions were just Braxton-Hicks, but she knew better. Within hours, she was by my side along with my partner; the three of us roaring together through each contraction. I continued to feel so comforted by Sophie while my partner dealt with the hospital. As labor progressed, Sophie was always one step ahead. When I started to get chills, she was ready with a heating pad. And when the plan spontaneously changed, she was the first to adapt. I’ll never forget hearing the sheer excitement in my birth team's voices as we neared the end. I felt so exhausted at that point; the only thing keeping me going was Sophie’s enthusiastic cheers. I felt discouraged by my midwife, who was bound to standard hospital protocol (my allotted time for pushing was nearing the end, which meant the threat of interventions loomed). I could have easily given up. I will always remember hearing Sophie say “You’re doing it!” I have no doubt that hearing those words gave me what I needed to find that bit of extra strength when I thought I had none left. Our daughter was born! Hospitals tend to be such impersonal and intimidating places. I now know that if you want any say in how you’re treated, you must have a savvy advocate who understands the hospital culture and also knows what you want. Sophie is that advocate.
Sophie was truly an amazing doula. She stayed with me from the very beginning to the bitter end, never once considering leaving and coming back later when I was in active labor. It was a long labor and she was a dedicated doula who felt more like a best friend throughout. She stepped back when my husband needed to step in—she knew when to let us be alone and when to be involved. She let us take the initiative with steps and tips we had learned in our birthing class, and provided educated support for us when we needed it. She brought along essentials which, to my surprise, proved invaluable: aloe water, a hand held fan, and other items which I would never have thought of. She was amazing with my family, and with my midwife—never overstepping complicated boundaries, and being my advocate and supporter the entire time. Sophie is a smart, studied, dedicated doula who I trust beyond words. I cannot recommend her highly enough! —Mckendree
