LeShanta brings 10+ years experience as a hospital nurse and her own experience as a mother. We felt very confident hiring LeShanta the moment we met her. She brings a great balance of medical knowledge and doula support to the table. She is a wealth of knowledge and helps you advocate for yourself in a hospital setting or other birthing setting. My husband and I decided to deliver our son in a hospital and would not have felt comfortable doing so without a doula. LeShanta helped us navigate the hospital protocols while I was pregnant but also after our son was born in the hospital. She stayed with us for several hours after delivery which was really helpful to have someone be there as our advocate during the postpartum-delivery transition. If it weren't for LeShanta's connections to other resources in the Denver area, I am not sure how successful I would have been at breastfeeding our son. I am still breastfeeding our almost 13 month son and it is all thanks to LeShanta's advocacy. Our son had intermmediate levels of jaundice when he was born and was falling asleep often while nursing. I struggled with getting him to stay awake enough to eat so that the bilirubin could be flushed out more quickly through his body and therefore allow him to be more alert to nurse and gain weight. LeShanta put us in contact with a very knowledgeable lactation consultant who was able to get us in touch with an in-home bilirubin blanket business in Colorado so that we didn't have to be readmitted to the hospital for our son's jaundice. Our first weeks were stressful as new parents, but LeShanta helped us feel like we could come up for air once she put us in touch with the right resources. I found that because LeShanta was a mother herself and had a natural birth, she helped us feel like we could relate to her better and achieve our own natural birth with our son. I would highly recommend LeShanta if you are looking for a professional, knowledgeable, and experienced doula!
I choose LaShanta for my doula because of her qualifications. I was considered high risk and had to have a hospital birth despite desperately wanting a home birth. After meeting Lashanta, she assured me that I could still meet my goals of having a natural birth even in a high intervention environment like the hospital. She was fantastic from the start, and provided birthing preparation classes to me and my husband. The classes were wonderful and certainly not like the cookie-cutter-fluff classes recommended by the mainstream birthing culture. LeShanta was very attentive to me and what I wanted out of my birthing experience. When it came time for the big event, Leshanta was absolutely irreplaceable! She worked with my nurses and doctors and ensured that I had the natural and intervention free birth that I wanted. I had a lot of fear and anxiety about giving birth in the hospital, but with LeShanta’s experience and guidance I felt comfortable and safe. She truly was a peaceful blessing!
LeShanta was more than a doula — she became a member of our family. After interviewing various doulas, I knew she was the one for us. Her background as a nurse made her stand out. She’s very professional & passionate. At our initial consultation, LeShanta had a folder in hand which included her biography, & explained her packages & pricing. She answered all my questions courteously.
She is knowledgeable & kind. LeShanta took the time to know my husband & me in the weeks leading up to D-day! Our in-home sessions allowed us to get to know one another. She had a PowerPoint presentation & handouts to walk us through the birth process. We practiced birthing positions together. LeShanta diligently answered our questions & helped put us at ease as nervous parents-to-be. She knew my birth goals well (i.e. natural birth) & kept true to our birth plan. LeShanta advocated for me at the hospital during the nearly 48 hours I spent in labor.
LeShanta was quick to answer in the wee hours of the morning before we checked in. I was able to stay home as long as possible with her assistance. She migrated with us from our home to the hospital twice (after labor stalled).
LeShanta was literally there to hold my hand, rub my back (crucial with back labor, let me tell you), provide words of encouragement & explain medical jargon.
LeShanta stayed with me from start to finish (48+ hours). After we returned home, she sent over L&D notes. All the details I had fuorgotten or was too tired to pay attention to, she had meticulously captured for us.
LeShanta helped bring our baby into the world, & we plan to use her again for future pregnancies. She’s an outstanding doula who went above & beyond. I am so grateful for LeShanta & can’t sing her praises enough! On a scale of 1 to 10, I give her a 100. We still keep in touch & consider her to be a true friend.
