Our experience with Feona was amazing! When we initially met Feona I knew right away she would be the best fit for our family. She was always available to answer any questions or to schedule a visit. She was really supportive of our birth plan and was our rock during labour/delivery. I wanted a natural drug free birth and I could not have done it without Feona’s support. She was there through it all! We delivered at a hospital but laboured at home for as long as we could. I asked Feona to meet us at the hospital and she got there just as we arrived. She took pictures, made me after birth tea, helped with my request to get placenta pills made, you name it she did it. My husband would have been lost without her. She is so kind and positive.
I can’t wait to share any future births with Feona. Hands down would recommend her to anyone looking for a doula. Thank you so much for making the birth of our first born so special!
Feona Lim has been involved with our family since the third trimester of the pregnancy she helped with tips on turning breetch babies, gave us contacts with chiropractors on turning breech babies. Stretches, and techniques on turning breech babies. She has been the wonderful amazing support a new mother and father could ask for. And even after the birth of our daughter she has been involved with hepling us with everything. In more ways then just a doula. She has helped us like family, treated us like family, shared stories and advice like family. She has been there through everything. And when the going got tough she became tougher and pulled through. I honestly don't know what we would have done without her. Over the course of us meeting her she has become part of our family and is now our daughters Aunty fefe. She has provided us with amazing services during and after birth. And still continues to help. Feona Lim is a god send, she was brought into our lives for a reason. We couldn't ask for a better doula. If we any other children we will for sure have her as our doula again, and I will always recomendher to other families who are lookjng for a doula.
We would have been completely lost without Feona. She was a pillar of support throughout my entire 42 hour labour. She was always there with a new idea when we needed to switch things up, she brought us food and made sure I was hydrated from home to hospital. She was such a blessing, and even took many amazing photos of our birth journey. My partner was able to fully focus on me while she helped both of us remain connected. It was wonderful having her, without her I truly do not know what we would have done.
Feona is everything I imagined a doula should be. As a first time mom, I had MANY questions. And Feona had an answer to them all. I am the type of person that likes to have as much information as I can get my hands on before making important decisions. She is informative, supportive in whatever choice I made about my pregnancy and birth, compassionate, funny, and strong.
As a woman with a same sex partner, she supported my wife in all the ways that she needed as well. She is very good at reading people's needs and providing love and support without judgement.
For the last few weeks if my pregnancy, she showed my wife and I how to do some spinning babies techniques to help optimize baby's position for birthing. I had no idea this existed before she showed us. It felt so good!
In early labour, she provided me with a TENS machine. This thing was brilliant. She also provided us with a birthing pool for our home birth, she had a yoga ball, a rebozo, and also worked with surrounding furniture, and my wife, to manage my pain.
Feona relieved all my anxieties and with her steadfast strength. We had an amazing birth experience and would recommend her for anyone wanting a doula. We seriously can't thank her enough for everything She did for us. She will be our doula for future births, for sure.
We are so happy that we found Feona and that she was part of our birth experience. This was my 2nd birth but my first experience having a doula. I recommend having a doula to anyone planning a home or hospital birth.
Feona is truly a genuine, kind and loving person. You can tell she loves what she does because it resonates in the work she does as well as her knowledge. At our first meeting we really got to know each other, she shared her past experience as a doula and she learned about my past pregnancy. We talked about what I wanted from this birth and we made a birth plan. It was the first time I felt reassured and confident about what I wanted. She made a home visit and taught us techniques for managing pain which were definitely helpful.
At the hospital she was there with a helping hand through it all I can't thank her enough. My 7 year old son was present at the birth and Feona was great with him as well. She took care of us as a family!!
I recommend her as a doula she is wonderful, I wish her all the best xx
Having our first child i didnt really know what to expect hiring a doula. When met with Feona, we clicked right off the bat.
Shes the kind of person who you're not even sure has bad days. I found her to be relatable and super easy to talk to. My wife appreciated the fact that not only was she experienced as a doula, but she shared her personal experiences which related to some of the issues we were concerned about being first time parents.
Over the next few meetings leading up to the labor, she was very informative and didnt rush her time with us. My wife and i didnt realize how uninformed we actually were. I couldnt imagine being rushed into the hospital not knowing half the things we learned.
But to say the least, we were very well prepared when the time came, and as i told Feona afterwards, i dont think we could have done it without her. She definately brought out the strength and confidence my wife never knew she had.
I highly recommend Feona and i couldnt imagine anyone saying any different. She'll definately be getting another call from us in a couple years!
Down-to-earth, funny, calming and intuitive are just some of the ways I would describe Feona.
Feona was there when I needed support the most. No one else could comfort me in the throws of labour as she could. She was an absolute rock. Feona also came equipped with bag full of great coping techniques (tens machine, exercise ball, anti-bleed tea, massage tools, rebozo, tea-lights, etc.) but in the end I really felt the safest just knowing she was in the room with me, helping through each contraction with a reassuring gaze.
My birth-plan was understood and honoured, and I left the experience feeling empowered and confident as a new mother.
Both my husband and I highly recommend Feona Lim to anyone who is lucky enough to have her.
"Feona was an amazing help to Jade and I. We feel we could not have done it without her as she helped us every turn of the way!" - Mike
Feona came highly recommended by my midwives and from our first initial meeting, my partner and I knew she would be our doula.
Feona has the right combination of strength, empathy, kindness and intuition that I personally needed throughout my labour.
I had hoped for an unmedicated home birth experience in the hospital, and I knew Feona would help me achieve that.
Unfortunately things didn't go as planned (do they ever ?!) and I had to be induced due to my water breaking early which meant being hooked up to various machines that inhibited movement. Even though it was less than ideal, Feona's TENS machine helped a lot, and other little touches like flame less candles. More than that though, Feona helped my partner help me through hours of intense contractions and an hour and a half of pushing without drugs. She was there at my side reminding me to relax, squeezing on my hips, with her considerable strength and offering words of encouragement along the way. There's no doubt in my mind that I would not have lasted so long without drugs without Feona there guiding my partner and I tirelessly throughout it all.
When the baby wasn't coming down, I was moved to the operating room to try a forcep delivery. There were complications there and things got scary. There was a flurry of activity and I wasn't told what was going on. Feona appeared right by my side and looked into my eyes with immense kindness and told me everything was going to be okay. In the end she was right, and I am grateful she was there.
Feona also took photos throughout my labour and during our postpartum visit, gave them to us, along with a few printouts of her favourites. She also presented us a little woven cedar basket for our son. These gestures confirmed how much she cares about her clients and what she does.
I would not hesitate to recommend Feona as a doula. We are so thankful to have had her at our son's birth.
Working with Feona was an absolute pleasure. I am very close to my family and have more then enough support, yet still when the contractions came she would be the one that I would make sure was by my side. Her approach is calming and supportive throughout the process. In the pre sessions with her she answered all of my questions and shared in a way that allowed me to feel excitement for the delivery process. I am recommending her to everyone I know and look forward to working with her again through my future pregnancies.
We met with Foena Lim through a strong recommendation from our Midwife, Amanda Dowling. I'm an Indigenous woman and Amanda knew Feona from working with her before. Amanda and myself felt it would be valuable to have someone who understands and has connection to Indigenous perspectives to be part of the birth. These connects are hard to find. My partner, Tallis and I weren't sure we needed a doula and wouldn't have persued it if not for our Midwife. I'm thankful she encouraged us to meet with Feona.
Foena arrived at our place on-time, energetic, candid and knowledgeable. We're an artist family so her openness and honesty resounded well with us. Before leaving she let us know we weren't required to have her be our doula but would like to be. Who was she kidding, we loved her. From there Tallis and i came up with a birthing plan including her input for labour postions and techniques.
While in labour, Feona brought her energy, endurance and good humour into the room when there was a struggle to keep the breathing focussed and deep. Her encouragement and personal labour strategies all worked to keep the labour moving forward. I was induced which made labour intense and the pain high. Near the end of the birth I requested an epideral that quickly resulted in an emergency c-section as our baby's heartrate dropped to a low beat. It was serious in the birthing room but resolved itself by the time we got into surgery. Our baby, Carver, was born without complications and without defects. Though Feona couldn't be there for the c-section birth, she did wait until we were released in a room and came to meet our little boy, Carver.
Afterwards, it was difficult to reconcile a surgery birth from what was planned but with support from Feona and others we came to learn this was how it was meant to turn out through no fault of my own. To hear it from someone who was in the room with us and as a mother herself was relieving. I am thankful she was there.
