My experience with Hannah was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I met her through Embrace Midwifery Care and Birth Center near Richmond, VA while awaiting the arrival of my first baby. My husband and I met her during a Meet and Greet at the birth center and after talking to her just knew that she was the right doula for me.
She's got such a fun and outgoing personality, which is opposite of my more reserved, introverted personality. But it's part of what made us such a great match! She's always got a smile, loves to laugh and talk, but is a very good listener as well. She really cares about the clients she works with, and is there to support both mom and dad during labor.
She was exactly what I needed at the time of the birth of my son. I didn't spend as much time with her as a doula like I thought I would initially because my labor went by so fast, but during the few hours we were together during that time, she was just an absolute God-send. I was very focused on her during my labor and her words were such an encouragement to me.
After my son was born, while the midwife and my husband were focused on him (he was born rather hastily with a cord around his neck, so he needed some minor attention) Hannah still gave me her 100% undivided attention. I will never forget looking up at her after it was all over and knowing that she was still focused on me. She even made a 1-week newborn check at my house, which was an hour away from where she lived, and she sat in the nursery with me and listened to all I had to say and share about my first week as a parent. It was really special to have her make that visit.
There is no doubt I will definitely be seeking out Hannah for the birth of my next baby! I don't know WHAT I will DO if I ever have to have a baby without her!!
Hannah was wonderful!!! I was very concerned and anxious, hoping for a VBAC. She met with us twice before the baby was born to make sure she knew what we wanted for our birth experience. We talked about any and all options in depth to see how my husband and I felt about everything that could come up. She was there for me all the time to help me through the last two weeks of pregnancy. I was sent to the hospital twice with high blood pressure (the reason I was induced last time) and she was texting me the whole time with suggestions on what I could do instead of being induced. She gave me suggestions to ask the doctor for other options I could have. It was such a relief for my anxious mind to have someone I could contact about the feelings I was having and whether or not I was in labor. When I did go into labor she came over to my house as soon as I asked. She was able to help me through my awful back labor with ice packs and heating pads as necessary. I couldn’t have done it in the hospital without her! They put the epidural needle in crooked and she was the one who figured it out and had them adjust it. They ended up saying I either had to have a c section or use forceps and she was there to help me understand what that meant. With her help we were able to have a successful VBAC! :)
Hannah was my doula for my third child. Throughout my pregnancy she was quick to answer any questions I had and very positive and uplifting about the less enjoyable parts of pregnancy. She was there for me all the way during my labor and delivery and I was so grateful to have her help during everything to help it be a calm, positive, incredible experience.
I wanted a doula for my second pregnancy because my first labor/delivery did not go well and I wanted more control of my decisions. I knew that I would be better off this time if I did things completely different from my first experience and I knew one of the first things I would do this time, would be to hire a doula. I chose Hannah because she was easygoing, funny and a delight to be around. Someone I could see myself with in the delivery room. I knew I couldn’t have someone I didn’t feel comfortable with at one of the most pivotal moments of my life. I was able to contact her via text and she would promptly respond with no judgement. She always sent me information that was reassuring and I really appreciated that. She likes to check in but isn’t overbearing. My labor was very fast and before I knew it I was delivering my baby. Leading up to that moment, she walked with me around the hospital to get things moving, she made sure my needs/wants were met. She kept me calm and confident. We did not get to try different pain management techniques or relaxing ambience. Honestly, I’m upset by that ha! As she was making the bathroom have a spa-like feel, I was leaning over having the worst contractions. I knew we would not be enjoying her set up after all. In the chaos, she was able to snap a few photos for me which I truly treasure. I highly recommend Hannah! xoxo
Hannah was my doula for my third non-intervention birth. We met through a doula meet 'n greet at Embrace Birth Midwifery. My husband, Chris, and I liked her immediately, she was friendly, funny and easy to talk to.
My early labor was different with my third child and when I called her with updates/concerns she told me that labors can progress differently with each pregnancy and said I was doing great (which is what I needed to hear). During active labor she continued to provide encouragement/praise and massaged my lower back (counter-pressure), which REALLY helped to lower the pain and made active labor much more tolerable. Through the entire labor Hannah “read” the room really well. She laughed/joked with us in the beginning and was serious, calming, and strong at the end. Hannah was the perfect support person to have with Chris and I during my labor. She anticipated my needs and gave me invaluable support during the most difficult moments of labor. I would highly recommend her to any expectant mama.
My husband and I decided late in my pregnancy to find a doula, but we are so glad that we did. When we met Hannah we knew she would fit in perfectly with the laid back, calming environment we hoped to have for our baby's birth. Hannah came to our home as I was nearing active labor and provided support and reassurance. Her presence was especially supportive to my husband, letting him know that everything was ok and progressing normally. Near the end of my labor, I believe my baby was still not fully engaged. With Hannah's magical doula maneuvers, I could feel her drop down. I moved through transition shortly thereafter, arriving at the hospital fully dilated. Without Hannah's support, I'm certain transition and pushing would have been longer and more difficult. Hannah - you're awesome!
Hannah was amazing! I gave birth to my first child on June 24th 2017. I was terrified of giving birth. I knew I wanted a natural birth experience but I had no idea how I was going to do it. Hannah helped me every step of the way. She was right there with me when others may have been squimish. Trust me when I tell you I could not have given birth to my beautiful baby girl without her. I HIGHLY recommend her. I cannot imagine Hannah's birth without her. She is worth every bit of the money and then some! I delivered my daughter smoothly and quickly with no complications. It was such a wonderful experience. I am forever grateful to her. Hire her! You will not regret it!
Hannah was an amazing addition to our birth team! We were able to call her in the middle of the night for advice when labor first started, and she came to the house to help with labor at 6am. I was having back labor and was worried I wouldn't be able to continue without an epidural (I was birthing at Embrace Birth Center so the need for an epidural would have meant transfering to the hospital). Hannah showed my husband how to apply counter pressure, which took almost all the back pain away during contractions. They took turns during early labor until we went into the birth center. Once there she played relaxing background noise, made sure I ate and drank enough to keep up my strength, and in general tended to my needs since my husband was on counter pressure duty. She stayed after the baby was born to make sure we were all ok, but was never "in the way." Everything Hannah did was helpful but never intrusive. She was attentive land helped create a calm enviromnment for the birth. My husband particularly was happy that she showed him how to help me, and then looked after his needs as well so he could remain focused. For example, she showed him how to apply counter pressure, and then brought him coffee so he did not have to leave me. like I said, she was an amazing addition to the birth team, and added so much to the experience without actually stepping into the spotlight or on anyone's toes. Hannah was exactly what a doula should be, and our birth wouldn't have been the same without her!
