As I lay here with my baby boy sleeping soundly on my chest, it is time for me to write my yearly (haha) baby thank you to the sweetest friend/doula that came into our lives during our first pregnancy. Anna was by our side during the birth of our first child, and when I found out I was pregnant with our 2nd little surprise just 13 months later I knew she would be a part of this journey as well. I honestly couldn’t imagine a delivery without Anna being present, she’s literally stuck with us. She’s the best calming force, she’s honest with you about how your labor is progressing, she advocates for you, she has some serious counter pressure skills, and I am pretty sure she even became my own personal back and foot massager at one point....AND... this women has the best sense of humor that will literally having you cracking up (between contractions of course). There’s no one else (well besides my husband) that I would want to walk the halls of the maternity ward 74000 (exaggeration) times! I really can’t say enough good things about this amazing women...she’s helped me so much during both of my pregnancies and deliveries. My daughter (now nearly 2) and Anna have an amazing connection...it’s like she just knows Anna was there for us/her from the very beginning, and she always will be, and I have no doubt it will be the same for my son. We love you Anna! #OurForeverDoula
When I found myself pregnant with my second child I was thrilled, but it didn't take long for flashbacks of my first experience with pregnancy and birth to conjure up some anxiety. Working with Anna was probably the best decision I made for my pregnancy and delivery. Anna went above and beyond expectations. Working with Anna made my husband and I feel empowered, supported, and ready! Be prepared to learn a lot about your body, friendship, marriage, and birth. Anna also might make you pee your pants from laughing. You've been warned.
We hired Anna for our 3rd birth. Having had 2 births already and 1 naturally with no epidural I knew what to expect but still wanted the support and knowledge from her in case a situation came up I wasnt prepared for. I was hoping to be able to labor at home as long as possible and that's something I hadn't been able to do before. I texted Anna alot waiting for this baby and getting prepared. When the day came that I went into labor we had full communication the whole time. My contractions weren't lasting long so I thought it would be quite a while but after 6 hrs my water broke at home and the contractions came very quick and hard! She let me know we needed to head in and she quickly met us there. She was very quiet and calm the whole time offering support and helping as needed. Baby was born 1 hr after we arrived at the hospital and she stayed with us for a bit after to help make sure nursing and everything went well. She was so great and I definitely would recommend her!!
We hired Anna during our 4th pregnancy, little did I know how incredibly thankful I would be for her! We enjoyed the meetings leading up to the delivery of our daughter, but as an expereinced mom we mostly got to know each other, practiced some natural birthing techniques, etc. I really wanted the best chance to have a natural birth in a hospital setting, and Anna was a wealth of experience, knowledge and support. As our due date got closer we kept communication lines open and I never felt like I was bothering her with updates. When my water broke at home the day after my due date she was ready to go...more ready than I was. Contractions started coming on hard and fast as we went to the hospital, and I was a bit in denial about how quickly labor was progressing. Anna was respectful of our space and only came when we asked her, even though she hung out in the parking lot waiting and KNOWING that things were going to go faster than I thought.
During the time that I was in labor at the hospital Anna was patient, she was confident in her techniques and helped my husband be my main supporter. She gave me constant encouragement and down to earth assesments of where I was in the labor process. 1.5hrs after we had entered the hospital, standing next to the hospital bed, I felt that baby coming. When I yelled out my husband shot off down the hall yelling for the doctor while Anna stayed right by me. Next thing I know, Anna is saying "I've got her, she's safe" as my daughter was born into her hands**. If not for her, that baby would have hit the floor as the doctors and nurses were gathering up all their equipment. She is worth EVERY penny, and I will never deliver a baby without a doula (this one in particular)
**Disclaimer: Doulas are not hired to deliver babies. This was absolutely an extenuating circumstance with a precipitous delivery. Anna showed incredible presence of mind in a crazy situation and jumped in where she was needed.
I needed Anna for mainly emotional support for my fourth birth. She was everything I needed, taught us many things we could do for pain management and things to think about in labor. I wanted to do it without an epidural this time, so these tools were extremely helpful (for my husband too)! My labor ended up being fast and furious, but I just remember the calm when Anna arrived and held my hand. She's very validating and I couldn't have asked for a better doula!
If you are any judge of character you can tell right away that Anna has a good sense of humor and strong personality. But none of that comes through when she is caring for you. You are her focus. This woman has such a selfless nature when it comes to her clients. You can tell she knows what life is about, what is important and she picks up the smallest details. I knew immediately I wanted her at my birth. How refreshing to have someone part of your birth experience that has a genuine care for mothers and family. She has such a gift in this profession. Gentle, caring, attentive and such an amazing support. She was there for my daughter's home birth and helped with my needs from quiet cheerleader to a rock to lean on when things got rough. Trust me, you want this woman on your birthing team. So much love to you, Anna, for the beautiful work you do and have done for my family.
I knew as soon as I met Anna that I needed her as my doula. I don't know how my husband or I would have gotten through labor and delivery without her. Her calming demeanor and helpful knowledge was very much needed throughout the entire pregnancy and delivery. I can't adequately express how grateful we are that we had her as our doula. She is hands down AMAZING and the best.
I have to admit, when my wife first brought up the idea of having a doula to assist with the delivery of our 3rd child, I was a little confused since the first two had gone very smoothly. I was also a little hesitant to have someone else in the delivery room with us, as it had only been her and I in the delivery room with the first 2 kids, and I wasn't sure how I felt about someone else coming in and taking care of my wife (since I felt that was my job). However, after our experience with Anna, I can absolutely and resolutely say that it was the best experience of all our deliveries. To say that Anna was helpful would be an understatement of epic porpotions; she was crucial to my wife's preparation in trying to deliver the baby without any medication. Anna helped my wife and I by teaching her to reframe her symptoms and pain into a healthy mental state and helped to prepare both of us by practicing various techniques to assist with the delivery. It also helped to work through so many of the smaller details I had taken for granted since it had been 4 years since our last baby. But as a father and husband, I think the best part of having Anna present, and the reason I will always be singing her praises to anyone who will listen, is because she allowed me to be the main support for my wife while she took care of other details during labor and delivery. She dealt with the nurses, grabbed anything we needed, and manually helped my wife with her pain while I could be at her head and focus on breathing and encouraging her. My wife and I got to share some of the most powerful time together bonding in a way that will never be recreated, and much (if not all) of that moment was due to Anna's presence and hard work. To anyone wondering the benefits of a doula, specifically a great one like Anna, let me reassure you it is worth every bit and I can promise you will not be disappointed. Thank you Anna for being a great doula!
There are so many wonderful things I can say about Anna & what she brought to the table during my pregnancy and the birth of our daughter but first I'd just like to acknowledge what a natural she is. Her intuitive nature & calming mannerisms helped keep me focused during the hardest parts of the delivery process. I've known Anna for several years now and had the advantage of knowing this is just who she is and knew I wanted her in the room when it was time.
We chose to have a homebirth and knowing Anna had also had a successful homebirth the previous year was encouraging initself. She truly believes in mothers & families having the birth experience they feel comfortable with even if it's different than her own. I had a lot of questions, concerns & when the time came to push some doubts I could do it but she was there for all of it, before during and after. I had an amazing team & she definitely played a huge role in the wonderful experience it turned out to be. During the hardest parts of my labor She helped keep me focused and calm just by intuitively knowing what I needed before I even asked for it a lot of the time. Which for me was huge because I'm not great at asking for help. Her compassionate & accepting heart for all people plus her educated passion for pregnancy and birthing process makes her the perfect choice for your team. Plus she's just an amazing person with the best sense of humor you can find in another human. She was a wonderful blessing to our family & always will be!
Last year, when I found out I was expecting my first little bundle, I knew I wanted to have a home birth but didn't know much of anything else. Anna helped prepare my husband and me for the marathon of labor and helped us to feel confident in our abilities to bring our sweet baby into the world. She worked with us during my pregnancy to practice various pain relief techniques and made sure we were all on the same page about what we wanted during the birth. When my peaceful home birth took an unexpected turn and I ended up delivering at the hospital, Anna was there to get us through a traumatic transition. Anna remained calm and helped keep me focused. She has also helped me work through my emotions about the birth which has been priceless. Anna was there for us before, during, and after the birth and was a vital member of my birth team. If you're looking for someone who is incredibly compassionate, knowledgeable, and will give you unfailing support, Anna is the perfect doula for you.
