We consider ourselves fortunate to have had Courtney assist us in the birth of our second daughter this past February. She met with us a few times in our home before the due date to get to know us,discuss our birth plan preferences,to familiarize herself with our home and family and to build a relationship with us. Courtney communicated well and often with us as the due date approached, checking in frequently and keeping in contact with us. When the time finally came, we called her at 5am, and she arrived at our home soon thereafter, completely prepared and organized to support us and guide us. Our birth took place at the local hospital, and Courtney was there with us the entire time, providing support, comfort, and guidance through the duration of the labor and birthing. It was an experience made richer by her help and presence, and we greatly appreciate having her there with us. Courtney followed up with us several times after our daughter was born, providing dehydrated placenta capsules, along with sincere consultations about how we were adjusting and recovering. We highly recommend Courtney as a Doula for both her professionalism and her ability to connect and support her clients through what can be a difficult and amazing experience.
My husband and I were initially unsure if we wanted to hire a doula for the birth, but we’re so glad we did. Courtney came highly recommended from a friend and she was there 100% throughout my labor. She made sure I was drinking water and helped ease my fears of pushing. She also drove my husband and I to the hospital since my husband doesn’t know how to drive. My labor was around 35 hours and she was there entirely and also for 2 hours after delivery as well. We had two visits prior to the birth to discuss our birth plan and a postpartum visit as well. I would highly recommend Courtney to anyone who is considering using a doula in the Midcoast.
I was due with my second baby a few weeks before my sister's Maine wedding. I needed someone to watch my newborn while I participated in wedding events for an entire weekend. I live with my family in New York, and we don't have any friends or family in Maine. I was connected with Courtney through the doula network. We spoke on the phone a few times and she immediately made me feel comfortable that I could entrust her to watch my baby and toddler.
As the wedding weekend approached, I became increasingly anxious about leaving my newborn with a total stranger and having this person stay with us in a cabin at the wedding. The second Courtney arrived, my anxiety dissipated. She is kind, calm, and nurturing. Typically, when someone holds my baby and I walk away, I come back to a screaming baby. Every time we returned to the cabin, Courtney was sitting there calmly with a quiet and usually asleep baby. My husband fondly referred to her as the "baby whisperer". She was incredibly helpful with planning how much breastmilk I would need to pump. She was respectful of our personal space and was a joy to be around.
I can't recommend Courtney enough for doula services. I wish we lived closer so we could have Courtney help us all the time!
My husband and I decided to hire a doula pretty late in the game, just a few weeks before my due date. I knew the importance of doulas, but we hadn't really budgeted for one and were trying to figure out what to do. I knew of a few in the area, but had heard of Courtney through our midwife. Hiring Courtney to attend the birth of our daughter was easily the best decision we made (after hiring our midwife in the beginning of pregnancy).
Courtney and I met twice before I went into labor. We went over any fears or concerns about birth, and envisioned how the birth would go (ideally). Her calm demeanor and clear knowledge of labor and birth were comforting to my husband and I both. I ended up being 10 days early, and Courtney was easily reachable, and came over to our house at 8:30am (after I'd been laboring since 10:30pm the previous night I felt I was ready for some assistance). Although I was feeling calm and in control, Courtney provided counter pressure on my hips, and rubbed my back as the contractions picked up. She continued to provide counter pressure, coached my husband on how to help, and made sure I was drinking water and eating.
She continued to be there for me 100% throughout a roughly 37 hour labor with 9 hours of pushing, a transfer to the hospital at 2:30am, more pushing, and eventual c-section. She was right there with me and my husband in the operating room which was extremely comforting for both of us, and she got to witness our daughter's first moments! My birth did not go how I had planned, but I am coming to terms with that, and Courtney has helped (yet again). She visited twice postpartum to see how everything was going, and really helped me process a birth that was very different than I expected. I cannot say enough good things about Courtney. I would recommend her to anyone in need of encouragement and tenderness througout labor and birth.
