Itzel treated me with respect and empathy through every step of my care. Her package emphasizes birth education. Itzel was with us for 30-some hours for our birth and never wavered in her energy and support. I would highly recommend her services for any first time mother.

My husband and I were expecting our first child and were a little bit on the fence about whether we needed a doula: we had heard great things about our hospital (I planned to deliver at Kaiser Oakland) and were doing plenty of research on our own. But after hiring Mighty Mothers and having Itzel support us during my labor and delivery, we were blown away by how much our birth experience was enriched - and how having their support helped take away major fears and let me feel more confident. Itzel was an amazing listener that absorbed and reflected our desires for the birth - desires that I think we didn't even know we had. She was a peaceful and wise presence, a respectful advocate to hospital staff, and incredibly proactive and creative in helping us through the labor. Itzel joined us to labor at our home in the middle of the night, and then went with us to the hospital when I was moving into active labor. She helped suavely navigate a difficult L&D nurse to make sure I had access to what I needed (something I was in no state to do myself), and surprised me with massages and exercises that took away a significant amount of the pain that I was in. She knew how to be very present when needed, as well as how to make space for my husband and I to lead the experience. Itzel kept me (and my husband!) hydrated, informed, and feeling confident. I ended up passing on the epidural and staying very active through the labor with her support. Once the baby was out, Itzel helped with the lactation consultant to guide early nursing - and took lots of pictures, which we are so grateful for.

The first moments my husband and I were left alone after the birth, the first thing we could say to each other (no joke) was how thankful we were that we had Itzel there to support us! When friends ask for words of wisdom on their first labors, my husband says "hire Itzel". Needless to say, we are so happy we found Mighty Mothers and heartily recommend them!
