Sophia was such an wonderful part of our birth story. She was very accomodating with her scheduled visits and could be reach quickly. During our initital meeting I immediately felt a connection with her. She is very softspoken and sweet. Her knowledge is vast and I felt I could ask her anything that was weighing on my mind. Before the birth of our son she was able to help us through weighing the pros and cons of various permanent birth control options and she made the decision a whole lot less stressful and confusing. She was at the hospital to greet us and wish us luck with our planned c-section and offered both emotional and breast-feeding support immediately after in the recovery room, all the while snapping some of our very first pictures of baby. After we went home she visited us to see how we were doing and offered advice for our baby who was suffering through feedings with terrible reflux and gas. She gave us some sample colic bottles that fixed his issues right away. Her time spent holding our new baby while we got a few things done around the house was a godsend! I highly recommend Sohpia.
Sophia exceeded my expectations as a doula. From my first prenatal visit to every meeting thereafter, I was beyond impressed with her level of preparation, knowledge, commitment, and support. A first time mom, I educated myself as much as possible from baby-dedicated websites, books and other moms. Still, I had lots of questions. I found Sophia to be one of my most valuable resources of information.
During our prenatal visits we discussed what to expect from the birth experience, ironed out birth preferences, and practiced positional and pain-relief techniques. When I told her I was experiencing anxiety about my original decision to have an un-medicated birth and opted instead to have an epidural, she supported me without question. She alleviated every concern I had with compassion and intellect. She always made it very clear that she was available to answer any questions I had, no matter the day or night. I appreciate how responsive she was, and all the effort she put in to making our meetings constructive and comforting.
Come my labour, I believe she has a knack for feeling one’s energy. Without saying anything, she was by my side when I needed her, and gave me space when I needed that. Her presence was beneficial, and I felt strong with her encouragement. She aided my partner to allow him rest when he needed and got along well with my nurse-midwives. All the while, she remained alert through the long and arduous night, and focused on my well-being her top priority.
The icing on the cake was her beautifully written birth story of my labour. She captured even the smallest happenings with so much detail it brought back to life what I would have been too groggy to remember otherwise. And with so much vividness in her writing, reading her depiction of events still brings tears to my eyes.
Sophia was an excellent addition to my labour team. She is effective and helpful and I am extremely grateful for her work.
