I don’t think I could have done it without Amanda! Well, maybe I could have, but my birth would not have been as supported and empowering. I was in labor for DAYS. Amanda and my husband were an amazing support team. They switched off helping me through contractions, making me smoothies, and allowing each other to rest when needed. Amanda stayed by my side through the night when my husband needed to sleep. She brought a toolbox of goodies that were distracting, helpful, and fun to try throughout labor. My favorite was the rebozo scarf! She had a great sense of how to be present and to give a laboring woman space. During transition, she was the one who helped me understand my own strength. I will always look back fondly at my birth, thanks to Amanda’s magic that she brought to it!
Anyone should consider themselves lucky to have found this lovely gem in the birthing community. Her sweet photography skills were such a blessed bonus. She is a very good listener. I felt so grateful for her confidence and her ability to comfort me, especially when things got intense during labor. Her doula bag of magic tricks is amazing to behold, and she utilizes its contents with a steady intuition a woman in labor can truly appreciate. It felt really nice to have such a gentle, experienced person on our birth team, both for mama and for papa. She is a wealth of knowledge and seems to know what needs to be said and done in any given situation. Her precense was always very grounding and extremely supportive. During our experiences with her, she was always a joy to be around. We are eternally grateful for her participation in our child Sage's birth story. Amanda Kalin is a beam of solid, full moon magical light!
I am someone who worries a lot and likes things to go according to plan so for me a doula was necessary to navigate birth. Our society gives us little to no preparation to help us understand what birth is really like and perpetuates a lot of non-truths. It was important to connect with Amanda during pregnancy to normalize the experience. I worried a lot during pregnancy as my son was conceived through IVF and Amanda addressed those fears but more importantly put them to bed with information and more positive thought patterns. She introduced mantras such as “not forever just for now” and provided a wealth of information as well as connections to the greater birth community, without which my journey would have been lonely and confusing.
When our birth plan went wildly out of control with a hospital induction and ended with a forceps delivery, Amanda maintained calm where my husband and I could not. Amanda was encouraging during labor, making suggestions without being pushy but also anticipating my needs as I retreated inside myself to tend to the work of labor. When the hospital staff took control of the delivery and decided on forceps, Amanda stood by my side and told me everything was going to be alright. It was the most frightening thing that has ever happened to me and I am so thankful that Amanda was there to support me with her positive energy and enduring faith in happy endings. My husband and I were impressed with Amanda’s work after our son was born. She stayed with me while my husband checked on our son, and had the forethought and love to feed me bites of caesar salad- an act of care that calmed me immensely.
We would gladly recommend Amanda to anyone embarking on this journey. She was invaluable to us and facilitated a much calmer and more enjoyable experience than if we had been on our own. Thank you Amanda for your love and care and the important role you played bringing our son into the world.
Monica and I and Baby Arimisa are so happy to share our experience having Amanda as our Doula! We had a less than ideal birth with our plan basically being thrown out the window and without Amanda there by our sides, the entire process would have been 100x more stressful. Her calm energy, experience, and knowledge on navigating the road to a successful birth and all that can come up were truly a blessing. We would have her back in 2 seconds for our next child and definitely will be recommending her to anyone we know in the area. We send much love and hugs to you Amanda!

Having Amanda as my doula enriched my pregnancy, labor, and postpartum period beyond words. I’m a worry wart...to put it mildly. Amanda’s quiet, calm, caring presence was a wonderful fit for me. During pregnancy, she listened fully and empathically to all my concerns and was always so very supportive.
Going through labor without Amanda would have been like running a marathon without knowing the course, hearing the crowd cheer, seeing mile-markers, or having any water. This was the first birth experience for both my husband and I so we did not really know what was happening or how much progress had been made. (When active labor was beginning, I still thought I might be in pre-labor! Imagine my surprise later on when we were at the Birth House and Amanda gently told me that the new, unsettling sensation I was feeling was my body getting ready to push my baby out!) Amanda quietly and kindly supported us throughout the process - both physically and emotionally. She knew when to get a cold cloth or glass of water for me. When I had more intense moments during transition and the afterbirth - she was right by me offering a hand to hold. Most important of all, Amanda normalized everything I was experiencing and gave me the reassurance that the birth was unfolding just as it should. This allowed me to stay tuned into the work of labor instead of getting sidelined by fear. I can’t recommend Amanda enough - her calm, knowledgeable presence helped my birth experience to be truly wonderful - the most empowering experience of my life.
I am so incredibly grateful to have had Amanda by my side for the birth of my son. We chose to do a homebirth for my first child and although I was filled with doubt and insecurity at times, Amanda's calming reassuring presence helped me to find my inner strength to deliver naturally. Her energy was grounded and fully present, she intuitively used creative comfort measures to get me through each contraction. I especially recommend the TENS unit she brought along. After putting forth endless amounts of energy during our 15-hour birth, she stayed by my side, comforted me through a tough after birth experience, and helped us begin our breastfeeding journey on a strong foot. I can't imagine having given birth without Amanda's fierce and compassionate spirit by my side.
In life, there are few events so earth shatteringly beautiful and terrifying as birth. It shakes you to your core, and in the moments of exhaustion, and confusion, and possibly fear, I truly believe that doulas are the ancient light that shines on and keeps faith in yourself and the process of birth alive. Amanda’s light shown through her expertise, and her unwavering compassion. From bringing a yoga ball to my home in early labor, to driving us to and from the birth center, to single handedly getting me through a particularly rough patch while entering transition, she was consistently there, intuitively knowing when to come closer, as well when to allow me space when she knew I needed it. She brought to my experience a warm glow, bringing in the ancient practice of women attending women in birth; a powerful tradition that I truly believe to be indispensable. My gratitude to Amanda for being there, and making it possible that I left my birth feeling empowered and connected to myself as well as my daughter, is immeasurable. I will always hold Amanda in a very special place in my heart for her role in my birth, and deeply recommend her services from the bottom of my heart to any woman seeking respect and empowerment in her birthing experience. She carries within her a flame that burns bright and true, illuminating the path of birth for women so they never lose sight of its magnificence, and all the joy and wonder that it brings.
I should start this review by saying that I have two children and four years ago when I had my first I had the worst experience of my life. I was starved, I felt pushed around and after 18 hours of labor, I was exhausted. I knew when I found out I was pregnant the second time that I needed someone with me, someone who could advocate my needs, someone who could do whatever I needed the moment I needed it. Amanda was that person for me.
To start out Amanda asked me for a rough idea of the things I wanted and the things I didn't. At no point did I ever feel judged or pushed into any decision that I had made. Amanda was a listening ear that supported me. For every question I had, Amanda had a suggestion.
On the day that I was induced Amanda showed up to the hospital and with her she brought a true sense of calm. All of the sudden I had someone that wouldn't let me get shoved around. She held my hand through contractions that made me shake, offered ideas on positions that would help with the pressure the baby was putting on my pelvis, she snuck me food while the nurses and doctors left the room.
The birth of my second son was perfect because I was able to focus on the experience knowing that my partner was there to lend emotional support while Amanda was there for literally everything else.
Amanda was there when I felt my weakest to tell me I was at my strongest. In short she is exactly the person you want with you during the terrifying, exciting, painful but wonderful experience that is labor.
