Mary brought a sense of warmth and comfort into my home and provided me with a listening ear, voice of reason, and needed perspective during the challenging first few months after my daughter's birth. I always felt at ease with my newborn in Mary's care, and was able to spend valuable time taking care of myself while my little girl was fed and lovingly cuddled. Mary also enabled me to spend one on one time with my toddler, and kept me well nourished with healthy, nursing-friendly snacks. Mary is a natural nurturer!
In anticipation of our first son being born, We met with Mary at our home to see if she would be a good fit for my wife and I. We were immediately very comfortable with having Mary in our home integrating into our family. With most of our family living hours away we felt more comfortable having some help transitioning to the postpartum period with some more resources on our side. Mary's kind and gentle heart and her positive upbeat energy was wonderful to have around as we were navigating the waters of new parenthood. We could trust her with anything; any task or decision or just for honest advice as a parent herself. Having Mary as a resource to the midcoast Maine area is one of the biggest reasons that I feel that midcoast Maine is one of the best places to start a new family anywhere in the world.
Early on I knew I wanted a postpartum doula very specifically. I wasn't scared of pregnancy or birth, but I knew strongly within myself that I wanted to have someone there to help on this new journey in order to help me feel confident, help me get the rest I would need, and to help me feel stable. I knew it would be crucial to my overall postpartum wellbeing. My husband and I met with another set of Doula's prior to meeting Mary. A few days later we both came clean that not only did we not want a birth doula (they were both), but that we didn't feel connected. I debated whether a doula was right for me, but I persisted. A couple days later Mary was in my prenatal yoga class as a guest. I felt good about her from the start. Hesitant I reached out. Mary came to our house to meet me more and my husband. It was, in my mind, an instant match. My husband had a good feeling about her too.
Mary became an invaluable member of our tribe. In those early weeks Mary took such good care of me by making sure I was getting enough to drink and eat. She kept my kitchen clean and bottles washed and filled for the supplements my baby needed thanks to a low milk supply. She made sure I rested. She took care of the nursery which was left in disarray was I went into labor early. It was little things, like walking upstairs and seeing laundry put away and the bed made. As I got better and better Mary took care of my son so I could get some time in. She helped us bath him, she babywore him, loved on him, made him smile and laugh, took care while we adjusted back to a work schedule, laughed with us, listened with a compassionate loving ear, and more.
My son adored Mary, and so did we. Once you meet her it's easy to see why. She's so loving, funny, real, down to earth. We were lucky to have her for six months which helped me transition back to full-time work. It was sad when we parted, but I know she will remain in our lives.
Hire mary. You won't regret it.
