Having Amanda at my birth was such a GIFT!  I am a second time gestational surrogate and I was so thankful to find a doula who was a surrogate herself.  Amanda is very professional and compassionate.  She LISTENED very well to what I wanted and helped me achieve the birth I desired.  Here are some highlights of my experience with her:

  • Amanda met with me in the beginning to go over what kind of birth I wanted. She asked many questions I hadn't thought about.  Since I was a surrogate, she informed me she would have documents to send the Intended Parents as well (in order to find out what they would like from the experience).
  • When the Intended Mother was in town, Amanda met us for lunch and got to ask the IM questions and go over our sort of birth plan.
  • Amanda informed me of techniques she would be willing to try during the delivery.  I, personally, can handle everything well except transition.
  • I went to the hospital a few days before my due date and Amanda was there promptly.  I was sent home because my cervix was not dilating. She stayed with us until 2:00 am!
  • When I went to the hospital again, the day before my due date, she arrived at the same time as us.  She was so pleasant and ready to go!  This was around 1pm on a Tuedsay.
  • There was a personal issue that arose during the process, Amanda was quick to offer advice and offer support.  I was so thankful for this.
  • Amanda walked the halls with me for hours.  She continued to support me while others fell asleep ;) She rubbed my back and legs and arms to try to help me rest
  • During transition, Amanda was a HUGE support, just as I needed. She helped me breathe and work through the contractions.  I do not do epidurals and unfortunately I was on pitocin.
  • The birth was 26 hours and she stayed the entire time.

My first pregnancy I'm bless to had Amanda to guide through the labor. As my cramping started early in my baby shower, I was in disbelief that it was time. At this point I was surrounded by family and preparing myself mentally for this moment, because I was waiting to see any signs of water breaking. Also, did not want to be a false alarm, but was sure to go in after the pain was intensify. On a Sunday with her family out with no hesitation met us at upland hospital. Where I check in at the emergency room, with my little knowledge of this medical procedure I was at peace with my doula at my side. My direct family were trying to rush to the hospital after wrapping up the party, any women is in good hands with Amanda as your adviser. She stayed in top of all the nurses attending me and all my family arriving, giving me all the updates. What I like the most is that you can tell Amanda is well knowledge and experience that she gave me unbiased opinion. Which made me feel calm and no pressure because I was debating whether or not to have an Epidural. Keeping up with my dilation progress I was glad to hear from her saying is going to be a fast labor. After going back and forth I was able to decide not to take the Epidural because I was worry of the duration of labor. Next stage within few hours and her guidance I was able to break my water on the table and have a successful vaginal delivery that same night. With my choice, Amanda also came the next day to give me the 101 about breastfeeding how to use breast pump, storing and sanitation. As the nurse’s help is minimal and I prefer the one on one learning as oppose to class. Overall it was a great labor thanks to my boyfriend for getting me Amanda as doula. I never had it plan or knew about it, but without a doubt will recommend no other women then Amanda for any baby or mother services. Feel like there is nothing she does not know about baby’s and being a mother as that’s her field of expertise.

I have started to write and then deleted what I have wrote soo many times over the last 2 months because I just can't find the words to describe my experience with Amanda as my doula. No my experience wasn't  bad it was actually very far from bad. I can't find the words to express how truly grateful I am to this woman for everything she did and has done and I don't think I ever will. My husband is a truck driver and was actually in Utah when my water broke. I gave Amanda a call to let her know it was go time and she dropped everything she was doing even though it was her daughters birthday to be by my side. She drove me all the way to the hospital all while keeping my mind off everything. We talked and laughed and she reassured me that everything was going to be okay. Upon arriving at the hospital we found out I was 4 cm dilated and that my little girl was breech and I was going to need a c section right away and my husband wasn't going to be able to make it. Amanda stepped right up held my hand and reassured me that everything was going to be okay and was with me every single step of the way. She help my hand, comforted me, made me laugh, made me cry by letting me know how grateful she was that I chose her to be there by my side when my husband couldn't. She was the first one to get to see my daughter and told me over and over how beautiful she was through her tears of joy. And when it came down to cutting her umbilical cord I couldn't think of a better person to do so than my daughter's  honorary Auntie Amanda! Amanda stayed with me for the next serval hours tending to my every need and my daughters. And made sure to check on us for the days and weeks that followed. And thanks to her I have soo many videos and pictures that both my husband and myself are everso grateful for. Like I said I'll never really be able to put into words how truly grateful I am and how much I appreciate everything that Amanda has done. Thank you soo much for everything!!!
