We were so lucky and are grateful to have had Serene as our doula for the births of our two boys. Each labour experience was very different (18+ hour labour and Emergency C section vs. 6 hour labour by induction and VBAC) and Serene brought the exact energy I needed at both. Her strengths during my labours were being calm, powerful, and accomodating/anticipating needs. Serene is aptly named - she was the calm we needed while I was trying to cope with rushes. She was also the calm my nervous husband needed. I appreciated this trait the most about her presence at both labours. In addition to always being calm, she was also incredibly joyful. This was a lovely energy combination for me as I was trying to think of each passing rush as one less to finally meeting my baby. She was also marvellously powerful as a support partner during rushes. There was a moment of immense relief when she arrived for T's birth because I felt like an expert had arrived (my husband is lovely but useless during labour) and would guide us through this intense experience. She knew where to apply counter pressure, guide my hips, and advocate for me when I stated that the gas was not working. During both labours, Serene followed every wish I expressed ("Please hold my hand", "I need to swing my hips", "I need to be on a bed", "I need to be on all fours", "I need to take off all clothes") with immediate accomodation and support. While Serene was wonderfully accomodating, she was also excellent at anticipating when I needed ice water, wanted pictures, or was hungry for more snacks after delivering. Another part of Serene's care that I greatly appreciated was the follow up home visit. It was really nice (and fun!) to recount the labour in detail and discuss each of our experiences. If I were expecting again, I would find a way for Serene to join us in Vancouver for the birth. I highly highly highly recommend working with Serene.
We were so lucky to find Serene! She only visited us a couple of times (unfortunately) because we had to move outside Vancouver, but even that was enough to help us feel so much more confident in dealing with the issues we were having. She gave us great tips and strategies that helped us get through a pretty difficult time. Most importantly, she was an incredibly calm and comforting presence. Helped me feel sane again!
I can't say enough about Serene. By the end of our birth, I felt so much grattitude and appreciation for her being there during the whole experience. I felt bonded by the experience of birth. It's such an incredible thing to share with someone. Serene was the perfect support, intuitively reading what was needed in each situation, as the labour unfolded. She supported both myself and my wife in a very gentle, calm manner. She was strong throughout the whole labour with a quiet confidence that made both Meghan and I feel like we had the best team behind us for the biggest day of our lives. Prior to the birth Serene was available over text at anytime and ensured the same confidence we felt during the labour when we had met prior to the birth. We'd full heartedly recommend Serene to anyone. The doula experience was amazing and we're thankful that Serene was the doula we got to work with!
Serene was such a calm and warm energy in what was the most stressful anxiety ridden experiences of my life. With a newborn and little support I had Serene there for the better part of 2-3 months as a night time doula so i could get the sleep I needed to be the best mom when my precious was in waking hours. She was always very professional, on time, and followed all my rather rigid instructions with a calm demeanor. I had some heavy post partum anxiety and she was very patient. The house was always clean and meals prepared for us the following day. The baby loved her and her calm demeanor. She was able to ease him with her intuitive nature and quick reflexes and washed her hands at the start of every shift( it's all those little things that helped me sleep without too much worry) I would highly recommend Serene to anyone who would like support with a newborn and know your little one is safe and sound in solid care.
We decided last minute to have a doula present for the labour and delivery of our second child. We met Serene through a contact and she was a wonderful presence during the birth. My husband and I met her in person and were able to discuss what we both wanted for the birth. We both felt comfortable talking with Serene without judgement or expectation. Leading up to the birth Serene was always available to offer support during some stressful false labour. My labour progressed a lot faster than I anticipated so I barely rememebring Serene arriving at the hospital, her presence was suddenly just there! She knew what I needed and was a constant support for both myself and my husband. She also worked really well with another doula to support our toddler during the fast labour and what turned into a stressful delivery. It was a great decision and I would recommend Serene to anyone looking for a doula for pre partum and birth.
We loved Serene from the moment we saw her interact with our baby. She has a confident, calming presence and is loving and encouraging. She offered wholistic support to both our son and family, and we trust her implicitly. Whether it was feeding or playing with our son, doing laundry, making sure I had the time and space for a shower/nap, or simply offering a kind, reassuring word, we felt completely confident in Serene's abilities to care for our newest family member. She is very grounded and when she has been in our home, I have found her to be present, caring, empathetic and loving. We would hire her again in a heartbeat, and I can't articulate how much we appreciated her knowledge and post-partum support.
Serene was a calming, reassuring, intentional presence from the very beginning. We connected over the phone and had an in person meeting to talk about our birth plan and general feelings about the process ahead of time. Shes was supportive of all our choices. We had semi regular checkins to see how things were progressing and if there were any questions. Our baby was 9 days late and we ended up labouring at the hospital instead of at home as planned.
Serene arrived at the hospital while I was labouring. Again her calm presence was felt. She assisted my husband and provided support when needed. Never intrusive and knew when the right time to step in and help was. Having her there added that extra confidence that everything was going to be ok.
She followed up a week later for a postpartum check up and to see how everything was going. We now have a healthy baby boy and are overjoyed at life right now!
I recently had identical twin boys. I was fortunate to have family support for the first two months, then it was only the boys and I. It took some time to balance everything, so I contacted Serene. She was flexible and willing to come for three sessions. I really appreciated the support. She is sweet, and very helpful with all tasks. The boys responded very well to her, which definitely puts a mother at ease. I would highly recommend her support for whatever you need pre and post partum. Thanks
I found Serene was a great help during the overnight service she provided for me and my newborn son! She was professional, very friendly and accommodating to our needs. She did a great job feeding and caring for our son and I felt that he was in good hands! It was so helpful to have the extra support of a doula like Serene so that I could get the sleep I needed in those early weeks. I recommend her for any new mommies out there!
Serene was a wonderful help for me as a new mother. I had trouble with breastfeeding and Serene was able to offer different techniques, positions, tips, and even emotional support while I was struggling to cope with frustrations. Serene was also very helpful with caring for my new baby while I did things around the house I needed to do, or just to allow me to have a little break and time to rest or take care of me. She was friendly, personable, and a pleasure to have around. I would highly recommend her for he post-partum doula services.
