I researched several doulas in the area and dwindled my search down to about 4 or 5 that I wanted to interview. Amber was the first person I interviewed and I felt connected to her right away. Even though it has been about two years, I still remember her telling me she loves encouraging people, and so that's part of the reason why she became a doula. This is a big part of the reason I chose her, because she's passionate about what she does.
A few things about my experience with Amber that I appreciated: While I was in labor, she noticed right away which stage of labor I was in when I instinctively started pushing with all my might. She pulled the emergency wire and it seemed like the entire hospital came rushing in. Shortly thereafter, I pushed and she was very encouraging. She also helped give my husband things to do. AND after my baby girl was born, her and my midwife tag-teamed by helping keep me calm during the stiches down below. She was also an excellent resource for my abundance of postpardum questions and issues as she constantly checked on me.
She was such a big part of my birthing experience that we will be using her again with our next baby coming in a few months.
When I decided that I wanted to have a natural birth, I struggled with the idea that I would be in the delivery room with strangers who I didn't know, who may or may not care about my personal wants and desires not only for my birth, but for the things my baby would first experience in this world. My husband and I hired Amber and he was still skeptical on the idea of having a doula and what all it would entail. After we had our daughter, neither of us could even find the words to express our gratitude for her. She stood up for our wants and needs, led the delivery room when it came to techniques to get the baby moving down and out, and she was by my side comforting me through countless hours of pain, all while maintaining professionalism and calm when it came to communicating with hospital staff. Our experience with amber was priceless, and we are forever grateful for her.
Where to even start...so when we first decided we wanted to have a doula at our hospital birth we knew Amber was immediately an option after my sister and her husband kept raving about their experience with her. I looked into a few others but there was something about Amber that just felt right. So thankful we listened to our gut about it because I know I wouldn't have had the birth experience I did without her. My husband started out a little bit on the reserved side when it came to the whole doula thing, and now he says we will never go through another birth without her by our side. The whole pregnancy she was there for me but not intrusive whatsoever. She didn't make me feel bad about having a false alarm. She never really sat down the whole labor process, constantly helping my husband know how to help me and using oils to help the nausea. Rubbing my shoulders and feet, and putting me in different positions to help move the baby down. But the main thing we appreciated was her attentiveness and sensitivity to our needs and wants, there was no judgement for our decisions we made. She would help explain what the doctors meant and if it fit into what we had hoped for for our birth. She also does post partum visits and that was extremely helpful! I was so engorged and she helped me to regulate everything. I am so thankful for Amber and how she was there for us in every way possible, a process we had no clue what to expect, she really helped us feel prepared and empowered. I 100000% recommend Amber and wouldn't ever hire anyone else for our future pregnancies. Seriously, she is by far the best decision we made during our pregnancy.
Amber was exactly what I needed to get through labor. I was determined to have a natural birth, and I did, thanks to Amber’s commitment to my birth plan and constant encouragement. She kept me in the right mental state to focus and stay confident that I could do it. She was also very knowledgeable about natural techniques for pain management. I am so glad that I had a doula and that it was Amber!
Amber was incredible during my son’s birth. She was knowledgeable, relatable, warm and supportive. During the delivery she advocated for what I wanted, and was available night and day before and after delivery. Though I hadn’t known her long, she immediately made me feel comfortable with the entire process. Her openness makes you forget you haven’t spent as much time with her, as if she has always been a dear friend and you have known her all along. Amber was 100% my encourager. I am so thankful to have had her at my delivery!
Simply put - Amber is awesome! : )
I met with Amber when I was very early in my pregnancy and knew right away she would be a great fit for us! I was hoping for a VBAC with this baby and she had just helped anether client achieve hers so it was so awesome to hear about it! Throughout my pregnancy Amber was there to answer any questions or concerns I had through text and she also met with me at meetings or just to chat! Weeks before my son was born she was always checking in and giving me some exercises to do to help get ready for labor. We ended up going in 5 days after my due date to have my water broken and Amber was there with us from the start. She was such an amazing support for us during the labor and delivery- which ended up being fast and intense once it started. She made sure I was heard and knew my options when the doctors would talk about what they wanted or needed to do. I was able to labor off the monitors for a long time and also get into the shower - which witbout her there we probably wouldnt have had! I ended up getting my VBAC With a 9lb 10oz 22in baby- a whole pound bigger than my c section baby! It was awesome- everything I ever wanted in a birth that I feel like I missed out on with my first baby.. after the baby was born she was great at following up to make sure we were all doing well. I highly recommend Amber to anyone looking for extra support during their pregnancy and their labor/delivery!
Amber was my doula and went above and beyond my expectations. She's absolutely amazing and my family and I loved her.
Amber has been extraordinary from start to finish. She definitely won over my family during labor as she suggested them to help do this help do that, such as massaging, putting heat pack on my back, holding the unattached baby heart monitor, or whatever it was. She was coaching my mom, sister and my husband what they needed to do all while still being a team player and switching out with them holding my hips or helping me move around. She was more attentive to the progress of my labor than anyone else, super encouraging and played an advocate for me to the nurses and doctors. Even the nurses agreed that she was really helpful. I spent 36 hours in total and she didn't leave my side, she pushed for what I wanted (which was to labor in a tub) but due to misinformation I couldn't have that but Amber found a way to convince them at least let me take a hot shower to relieve the pain. When it came to a breaking point where I decided to get the epidural, I said the safety word and she asked if I was sure and reminded me that I could still do it naturally (the way I planned it) but it had taken too long and I was tired and in a lot pain. She still encouraged me after, through getting the epidural and through pushing. I ended up having a c-section but she still didn't leave until it was over, still letting the nurses know what I wanted to happen after my baby was born, she visited me the next day and in the first couple days at home she was a life saver getting pumping/breastfeeding down and getting me the things I needed to accomplish that successfully. My mom still talks about how wonderful Amber was and how we don't know what we would have done without her. It's safe to say that my mom is jealous she didn't have her around when I was born but I am so grateful to have had her help me and my family throughout this process, if we do decide to have another baby someday, I would definitefly need to have Amber's services again.
When I first said I wanted to hire a doula, my husband protested. I peresvered, however, and found out about Amber through a friend. After meeting her, we knew she would be the perfect fit. Well, I did. My husband thought she would be a perfect fit IF we really needed a doula.
She met with us through the pregnancy, and gave me a plethora of resources when I asked for help. I used her reommendation for an acupuncturist to help get labor started, and after birth she helped me with finding a baby chiropractor. She answered all my questions and listened to my frustrations when I was overdue. She was also very helpful when I went through two intense rounds of false labor (contractions 1 minute apart for 12 hours with no progress)
When I finally went into labor she was invaluable. I had a csection after 32 hours of labor with my first child, and was absolutely terrified of experiencing this situation again. She helped to calm my fears as labor progressed, and calmed me down when I panicked. She was also handling communication with my nurses and giving suggestions to help me when I hit blocks. I honestly had no idea how much she was doing for me until after. I was able to focus entirely on the labor, as was my husband. She also spent about 6 hours behind me holding my hips, with my butt in her face, to help with the pain of my contractions. She was willing to do anything she could to help ease my frustrations, pain, and fears. I give her 100% credit for my successful vbac, and finally having the birth experience I so desired.
After Amelia was born, Amber continued to stay in contact and help assist me with anything she could. She helped me search for a solution when my daughter didn't sleep and cried almost 24/7 for the first 3 months of her life.
After our experience with her, the most telling thing I can say is: my husband has said if we ever have another child the first thing we're doing is hiring Amber as our doula.
Amber was really great. The months leading up to labor she stayed involved by talking to me about my m visits. I would tell her what had happened or what was discussed and she would tell me more about it or help me find solutions. When I found out at 36 weeks that my fluid was low she talked with other doulas and found several alternatives that could help that were in line with my desires. She was always offering a lot of help and encouragement. When it came time for labor she arrived as soon as I wanted her there and was not only present the whole time but was 100% available to me the entire 22 hours. She truly was an advocate for me, trying to get the nurses to give me more time to dilate or relax in the shower. She reminded me of things I wanted to ask or try. She made sure to get my husband involved by suggesting things for him to do. She made sure all my wishes were fulfilled to the best of her ability.
Going into it I think my mom and mother-in-law thought it was a little silly and unnecessary for me to have a doula in the room with me. But by the end of it they expressed to me how great she was. They were impressed by how much she knew, how helpful she was, and just overall the level of service and care she provided. I wasn't able to talk to the nurses, but I'm sure they thought she was great too. I know my husband was glad she was there. I definitely want to have her as my doula for my next baby as well.
