Heidi was an amazing Doula to work with! I had 2 children before without using a doula, but wanted to have support from a doula for my 3rd (planned un-medicated) birth. Heidi was very professinal, friendly, and took time to explain things to me when we met before my daighter’s birth. I didn’t think I had much to learn after having kids already, but she taught me some new things and explained options to me I’d never considered. Very helpful! During labor, Heidi knew when to give space, when to step in, and when to show my husband how to help me. She was amazing! Heidi was a wonderful doula and I am so thankful we had her with us! Heidi also checked in with us after the birth and gave me confidence to stand up to a hospital staff member when they pressured me to give formula to my baby. She specializes in educating on options without being pushy, and I am so thankful that I had her support!! I’d definitely recommend Heidi to anyone who is giving birth, weather they’ve had kids before or not! :)
Heidi was my doula for my 3rd birth. My second baby was a scheduled c-section due to his medical issues, and when I found out we were expecting #3, I knew I wanted a VBAC, but that I'd need a strong advocate to help me stand up for my rights as a patient. My first birth, I had an epidural and was given pitocin against my wishes. I knew I didn't want that happening again. I also wanted to avoid any interventions that would increase my chance of needing a repeat cesarean.
Heidi knows when to keep things lighthearted and relaxed, but also when to be serious. She was very supportive, answering questions during my pregnancy and being patient with me through a week of prodromal labor. She helped me stay sane through nine days of contractions that kept fizzling out. And she helped me calm down when my doc said we needed to induce because of a non-reassuring NST at 41 weeks. She helped me fight for what I needed during labor, held my hand, rubbed my back and hips, walked miles as we waited for contractions to pick up... She helped me enforce my birth plan when my provider wasn't the one on-call overnight, and she helped me remember that I COULD do this without pain meds, and helped me to chose alternative pain relief options. She also stayed with me when my baby had to go to the nursery for treatment after she was born with a fever and my husband went to the nursery to advocate for the baby. That alone made her more than worth the price of her services in my opinion, regardless of all the other stuff she did. My protective husband would have wanted to stay with me, not the baby, and I needed the baby not to be "alone".
She was great with follow up care, too. After we were home, she came and went over the birth with me, asking if I had any questions about how things had gone, what had happened, etc. I really appreciated that! As a former LLL leader, her breastfeeding knowledge and experience is extensive, too.
