My wife and I had an amazing experience with Dani — if we have another child, we’d have no second thoughts about working with her again.
Despite our birth not going to the original plan, Dani provided the support and confidence to help us stay true to our essential goals, find compromise when options were limited, and ultimately have a birth experience we can look back on positively.
Right from the start, we felt Dani provided the right energy to compliment our own — giving us confidence both in our ability to have our baby and her ability to provide assistance when we needed it. We really felt she could adapt her energy and presence to our needs at any moment. Even when we felt panicked, lost, or overwhelmed, she provide calm, guidance, and affirmation of our own capabilities. She was always there, present and ready to help, but also allowing us the space to own this incredibly personal experience.
We can’t recommend Dani enough and can’t imagine having done it without her.
Dani is magical, and I cannot recommen her highly enough! Myhusband and I were debating whether or not we ‘needed’ a doula, as our first pregnancy progressed. At his insistence we met with Dani, to see if it was a good fit. That was it for us, we decided right after our first meeting with Dani that she would be our doula, and it was the very best decision for us, for our labor experience, and for our baby. Dani is a perfect combination of things - wise beyond her years, sweet and gentle, calm and strong. She brings a clear perspective to all her interactions, and is there for your every need. Throughout the last trimester of our pregnancy Dani shared Her vast knowledge with us in order to make us both feel fully informed and comfortable with what lay ahead. After just one home meeting, my husband’s intense anxiety over the upcoming labor was gone. Dani also spoke with us numerous times over the phone in the last month of our pregnancy, as some complications arose, and made us both feel so much better, more positive, and fully supported. Through our labor, Dani supported us both in too many ways to count, from her wise reminders (‘relax your jaw!’), to getting us snacks (jello!) when my husband didn’t want to leave my side, to advocating for us with extremly important decisions that I know truly made our birth experience the successful, magical event that it was. Dani has continued to support us all post partum, and there is no end to the gratitude my husband, daughter and I feel for her!
I am so glad Dani was a part of my brith! Ahead of delivery, Dani met with my husband and I twice. In the first meeting, she talked us through all of the possible interventions and helped us create a birth plan that was right for us. Dani is extremely knowledgable about birth and birth interventions and was able to tell us the pros and cons of each so we could make the decisions for ourselves. In the second meeting, Dani taught us birth positions and other helpful strategies to manage birth sensation. This second meeting was especially helpful for my husband becasue it gave him tools he could draw on during birth.
My birth did not go exactly as planned (as few do!). Dani was with us to help shift our expectations in the moment, empowering us to make decisions and create the right birth for us. Dani was also unbelievably calm throuhgout my labor which helped us stay calm and focused as well.
I highly recommend Dani for anyone looking for a calming and knowledgebale presence at their birth!
My husband and I were not sure if we needed a doula when we started to research the concept, especially since we had taken a great birthing class and had wonderful midwives supporting us. Ultimately, we decided we didn't know what we didn't know and, as it turns out, there was still a lot to figure out! Dani helped us understand a lot of the choices we would have in the hospital, and how to prepare for the unexpected.
My labor did not go as planned and ultimately ended after 2 days in a C-section, and Dani was there the whole time, supporting me and my husband through a very long, exhausting, and stressful process. She rubbed my feet, helped me into a variety of positions, kept me company when my husband went to eat, and lent the midwife a hand when asked. She literally slept in a chair for 2 nights! After the birth, she was there to answer questions about breastfeeding and the baby, and even helped us in a pinch when I had an unexpected trip back to the hospital at 6 days postpartum. She was there for us at every turn. We would recommend Dani without hesitation!
I began my search for a birth doula after hearing the birth stories of several of my colleagues. I quickly realized that I didn't even know what questions to ask, yet it was evident that a doula is often an integral part of having a positive birth experience. After speaking to several doulas in the NYC area, Dani clearly became the right fit for me and my husband. Dani's calm presence and warmth were exacly what we needed as we began our journey into parenthood. Our first two prenatal meetings with Dani were not only incredibly informative, but they were also carefully scaffolded in a positive, empowering way. Dani took the time to explain everything we could expect and helped walk us through what we wanted in our first birth experience. She was available 24/7 and when it came time to make some critical decisions, Dani led us through the entire journey in a peaceful, supportive way.
Our birth went almost exactly to plan, and Dani was there to lead us the entire time. Her groundedness was unwaivering and the support she had for me, my husband, and my new son is surely the reason I would recommend Dani to all of my friends and family going forward.
Thank goodness for Dani! I am beyond grateful to have had her as my Doula for my first birth (which was a home water birth). Her nature is calm, nurturing, attentive and knowledgeable and I felt completely at ease in her company, when I needed her most. Not only was she there for me, she really knew what to say, what to do, to help me through the hardest contractions and then birth. I really don’t know what I would have done without her and can not recommend Dani enough. Thank you Dani, for being there for me, and for other women (and their partners), this is definitely your calling.
Dani is part of the For Your Birth doula group and we had worked with them for our first daughters birth so I would highly recommend that group, first off. From our first meeting Dani's calm, soft spoken nature put me at ease and gave me confidence that she would be a great presence in the room with my husband and I for the birth of our second child. It is a very personal experience so having someone you can trust and who will not annoy you is a big deal. Our second meeting proved she is very knowledgable, caring and confident-all the things I would want in a doula!
As with my first I wanted to give birth without medication and managing the pain, keeping my mind right and focused on the task, not the pain, is key. This birth was VERY different from my first, baby girl came very quickly and there was no time for resting in between contractions really...in my mind I remember it as 6 hours wtih one long contraction, in the middle of the night when I was already exhausted. Dani was a rock. Her calm demeanor kept me from freaking out, though the pain was nearly unbearable. I think she noticed at some point that I was really tensing up my legs/feet...between contractions she was down at my feet doing something very magical-I don't know what it was but it relaxed me and made me feel at ease. During contractions she was up by my head, with my husband, letting me squeeze the hell out of her hand, reminding me to breath, reminding me why I was there.
My husband later commented that her calm nature really put him at ease because he was internally freaking out at how much pain he could see I was in. He followed her lead, he said, and that helped him as much as it did me.
Dani will forever be a part of one of our families greatest days, the day my second daughter was born, and I will look back in awe of how she helped keep everyone calm.
My husband and I interviewed a number of doulas before settling on Dani, and we can safely say she was an excellent choice. Dani has a very soothing presence and we both felt extremely relaxed around both her and the back-up doula, Kaeleigh. My labour did not go to plan - I was adament that I didn't want a c-section, but unfortunately ended up with one after 2 nights in the delivery room. Despite this, I felt comfortable with the ultimate decision, and I attribute that largely to Dani's presence. There were a number of key moments where Dani prompted me, very gently, to ask a question or two of the doctor, including asking for more time at one point which ultimately led to a change in shift for my doctor and a different outcome. I felt supported in trying to establish what I wanted to happen and to advocate for myself. When I was in labor and pushing Dani did many things which helped ease the pain without me having to ask, which took a lot of pressure off my husband. Foot massage using essential oils was particularly effective - which I never would have known to request given how much I usually hate weird smells or people touching my feet!
Dani was a truly amazing doula to work with. This is my second time using a doula, and I recommend one for all couples as both mom and dad could use the extra support! I specifically needed extra support as my previous delivery was quite traumatic with unexpected complications. I found Dani late in my pregnancy- just two weeks before delivering- but she was able to make a visit to meet us and discuss a plan for the big day. On delivery day, as soon as Dani walked through the door, I felt a calming feeling come over me. She was able to explain things my husband, who pretended he knew what was going on but really did not, as the labor progressed. This relaxed my anxiety-stricken partner quite a bit. Initially he was very hands off, or when he touched me I could feel his anxiety transfer onto me. But Dani was able to guide him to be there for me and to change his touch to something more gentle. Her music, scents, touch, reminders to breathe, assistance with position changes and constant reassurance put me in a very relaxed state, even with an epidural that was not completely functioning. She helped me feel very aware of my body and what it was trying to do. I am still shocked at how quickly and seamless the laboring and pushing went. I truly believe that going into pushing as relaxed as I felt (with her assistance) helped me put 100% effort in getting her out quickly and safely.
Now I just need to find out where she teaches yoga!
Dani was an invaluable part of the labor and birth process! Her support extended both before and after my labor and delivery. A month of so prior to our delivery, Dani came to our home and spent several hours working with my husband and I to develop our birth plan. Her knowledge and guidance was incredibly helpful and allowed us to understand what a natural hospital birth could potentially look like. Because of the time she spent with us on the front end, we went in to the hospital feeling super prepared. Although I needed to be induced, I was still able to have the natural labor and delivery I had hoped for! This would not have been possible without Dani. She was there every step of the way, coaching me and my husband through the process, encouraging natural pain management techniques, and being an overall calm but firm presence when I needed it. We couldn't have done it without her. Additionally, Dani was supportive and helpful after our birth. She visited a week later and spent time processing the experience, checking in on how we were doing, and giving advice on breastfeeding.
My husband and I were very happy with the decision to hire Dani as our doula. She is incredibly knowledgeable, calm (but firm when you need it!) and clearly loves supporting women in the entire process of pregnancy, labor, and delivery. We are so thankful she was there to share our special moment!
Our experience with Dani was great. From our first meeting with her she inspired a sense of confidence. Dani is a yoga instructor so she understands the female body, breathing, and comfort measures. She also helped us draft and then follow the birth plan. Most importantly, Dani was extremely helpful during the delivery. My husband and I give her the highest possible recommendation.
Dani was my doula for my second labor, an attempted VBAC. I am immensely grateful for her incredible support! I would not have endured so well and even enjoyed significant parts of the experience without her! I went through a very long labor, including 13 hours in the hospital without an epidural, and ending with a c-section due to fetal distress, as well as juggling the schedule of my toddler throughout, Dani was able to not only help immensely with pain management (such as massage, oils, positioning, ball) she also provided emotional support/ processing, and was even able to make parts of it memorably enjoyable! Dani has a unique combination of knowledge, including from her work as a prenatal yoga instructor, and an emotional/spiritual presence that helped me relax and flow with the unpredictable turn of events. Dani stayed all the way until I breastfed and she made sure all of my decisions where well informed and that I considered all my options. Dani is an incredible doula and I highly recommend her to anyone!
When I had prepared my second home birth, the most thing that I had concerned was deciding the doula whom I was going to be with. Dani is calm and thoughtful, and she has bright energy enough to support me in the way I expected. She is exactly the one whom I wanted. She encouraged me through the whole labour with her cheerful words and peaceful face. I can’t recommend Dani enough as your doula for your priceless moment in your life.
Dani was an amazing doula during the birth of our daughter, now two weeks old. She came to our house in the middle of the night after I had been laboring for a good 14 hours or so, and then accompanied my husband and me to the hospital, where she was indispensible during the rest of my long, difficult labor. She was able to provide company for me when my husband needed a break, and was there for moral as well as phyiscal support. She was also a great comfort to my husband, who knew that if he needed a break or a nap, I wouldn't be alone. My baby was born in a posterior position, and Dani was able to not only accurately identify that that was the case, but was able to tailor her massage techniques to lessen the pain of back labor.
Dani is straightforward and caring, and is a good listener. She met with my husband and me before the birth to fully understand our wishes for the birth of our daughter, and was respectful of our choices and decisions. She also made every effort to get along with the (amazing) nursing and medical staff at our hospital, and it seemed like they were able to connect with her, too, for the period that we were there.
It was extremely clear to me that Dani always had my best interests at heart, and was able to translate her experience into a positive one for me--a difficult task, seeing as labor and delivery is no walk in the park. I am extremely grateful that she was with us, and that she was able to witness the birth of our daughter.
Dani’s support in the hospital was amazing- she was with me for over 24 hours! She was very encouraging and offered a variety of tools including fabulous aromatherapy that kept all the employees of the hospital exclaiming about the spa-like atmosphere! It was also wonderful that she was able to refer me to postpartum support in the weeks after birth. I would recommend her services!
