We feel bad that we are just getting around to this testimonial. It's been 2 years since Alison helped us with our first child, and we have just contacted her to help us with our second. That's when we realized that we never did this! Oops! Kids really do take over your lives.
So, in addition to the fact that we want to use her services again, here are our impressions from 2 years ago. First of all, she is just a very caring person. She always asked how Nicole was feeling, and talked to us about possible solutions for the uncomfortableness that can be pregnancy. Which brings me to her knowledge. We took a birth class, so we were more prepared. However, in every meeting, Alison would bring articles, and other bits of information to help us along. She would talk about tactics, and practical things we could do both before and during the birth to ease things along. She even assigned homework for us to practice so we would be better prepared for the big day. In our meetings, and during the birth she was always present with us. We were her focus, and that just lent us a calm feeling, knowing that she was there to help us. Finally, she was very flexible. As you may or may not know, births hardly ever go exactly according to your birthplan. Having seen many births, and had children of her own, she is of course aware of this, and prepared for it. She was a present help when our plan went in unexpected directions. Finally, on the day of the birth, she introduced herself to Nicole's OB, and made herself such a part of the "team" that Dr Metz sang her praises at the follow up apointment after the birth.
If you are looking for a doula, Alison is an exceptional one - caring, knowledgeable, present, and flexible. We are excited to use her again for our second birth -- in fact, it never occured to us to even think about asking anyone else.
Alison was such a dream doula! She has a fantastic personality and radiates good vibes. She made me feel so comfortable—as if I had known her for years!
I wanted a doula for labor support and ended up getting SO MUCH more with Alison.
She is very knowledgeable and is such a great resource both during pregnancy and after delivery. I loved that her knowledge wasn’t only learned in doula training, but firsthand with her two kids. I felt even more confidence in her knowing she had been through it before (twice!).
Her encouraging words during labor will be forever appreciated, and my husband and I found it so helpful simply having another set of hands. Something I didn’t anticipate was how useful it would be to have someone help me immediately following the birth. My husband went with baby to be weighed and such after our bonding time, and it was beyond amazing to have Alison to help me clean up and get comfortable. She had all the tricks!
She also got THE BEST pictures of the birth (with our permission). I thought having photos wouldn’t be very important to me, but I truly cherish them.
Finally, I found it so valuable to have someone experienced to reflect on the labor & delivery process with during the postpartum visit a few days later.
If you’re in the market for a doula, do yourself a favor and set up a meeting with Alison!
Alison was a wonderful doula - she was the best support we could have hoped for.
In the months before the birth, she was always very helpful in answering all of my questions quickly, and was available by email or phone. She is extremely knowledgeable about all things related to childbirth.
Once she started being "on call" for this birth, I felt like I had a friend I could always get support from and who would check in just to make sure I was ok. During labor and delivery, she was there every step of the way to help deliver counter-pressure, encouraging words, and anything else I or my husband needed.
It takes a special kind of person to have this calling and I truly believe that Alison was made for this job. You will not be disappointed if you choose to hire her, and I am grateful to have had her guide me and my husband through this journey.
Grazie Alison, hugs & love from our little family

It was wonderful having Alison as our doula! Alison is incredibly supportive, kind, and knowledgeable about everything related to pregnancy/birth/babies. We are first time parents and are so thankful we had Alison as a resource with us throughout all of our (many) questions during pregnancy and after the baby was born. She was very flexible and instantly calibrated to our thoughts on birth plans/epidurals/etc.
She helped us understand the birth process, especially how to prepare for labor. Once we got to the hospital, she supported us with positions to speed the birth but also served as such a huge source of comfort, and even took amazing photos as our baby was born. Afterwards, she came over and showed us how to do everything to take care of our baby from diaper changing to baths to soothing our baby and answering countless questions, even late at night when we were most scared. She was amazing to have postpartum, and helped me figure out a breast feeding plan that made me confident about returning to work.
Going into pregnancy, I wasn't sure I wanted or needed a doula, but I can't imagine having gone through this experience without Alison to help every step of the way. She continues to be in touch and we're so thankful for the opportunity to work with her. I can't recommend her enough.
Alison was the most wonderful doula and partner for my birthing experience. As first time parents, my husband and I were excited but nervous and felt we needed a little guided experience at our side. Initially I wasn't sure if we needed a doula, but I'm so happy we were recommended to Alison. Alison met with us a few times during my pregnancy and reviewed everything about labor, putting us at ease. At times it felt overwhelming, but Alison was relaxed and easy going and took us through it all. My actual labor was 40 hours and thankfully I had Alison at my side the whole time. I felt that she put me first throughout the process; at every minute of my labor she was there; answering questions, getting the doctor, adjusting my pillows, passing me juice. I don't think she took a break once or napped for even a minute! At the same time, she was super attuned to our feelings and gave my husband and I some post labor space at just the right moment to be emotional. Alison also followed up afterwards, wanting to make sure we were ok, and again made herself available to answer any questions and review our experience. She came over to our apartment with goodies, her nurturing care shining through again. Alison is wonderfully calm and funny, yet professional and alert. She has the right personality for the role of doula; experienced and calm, lovely and sincere. It is so obvious that she loves and cares about what she does and I couldn't recommend her more highly! I truly couldn't imagine a better doula!
I would very highly recommend Alison Wehr as your next birth doula. She stepped in as a backup doula when I went into labor one month early (our doula contacted her as she was not yet available). Though I had never met Alison before, I felt immediately comfortable in her presence, and she showed up ready to work and support! Her positive attitute, knowledge, and calm, reassuring presence got my parnter and I through a slow and grueling 4 day labor. She was well prepared and equipped to support me mentally and physically, and we tried a variety of different positions to speed the labor along and to provide some degree of comfort during contractions. My partner was very determined to be a strong and supportive coach, but four days is four days, and Alison provided him some much needed rest and reassurance. Every labor is different, and every person is different, but Alison is kind, knowledgable, and positive, and I think would get along easily with anyone. We were thrilled to see her a few days after we got home to introduce her to our son and discuss breast feeding. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we felt so lucky to have had the chance to work with Alison, unplanned as it was! I will certainly use Alison as our birth doula if we have a second child, and I've already recommended her to friends!
From the moment we met Alison we knew she had the right energy and confidence to help guide us with the birth of our first baby. Our sessions were productive and informative and it was really easy to book time with her whether at our home or via video chat.
Alison was with us every step of the way and when things got tough she was our emotional rock and helped steer us into the most meaningful chapter of our lives. We couldn't have done it without her!
It's probably not a great idea for me to write this in such a hormonal + emotional state, but I want everyone to know ASAP just how truly wonderful Alison is!. Alison was our birth doula and we can't say enough wonderful things about our experience with her. From the moment we met her, we knew her energy in the room with us would be perfect. She is just the right balance of everything: energetic + calm, proactive yet patient. Her pre-natal visits were so knowledgeable and helpful and through our conversations, we felt as prepared as we could be for our baby's birth! Our birth did not go as planned, but Alison was there every step of the way, reminding us that each curveball was perfect and what needed to happen to keep our baby safe. She held my hand while I cried, gave me high-fives when I needed and most importantly, supported my husband throughout the whole experience so that he could be there for me in every single way. She took pictures that we treasure and show off to all who will see and truly went above and beyond to make sure our whole experience was so calm and magical. She checked in with us afterwards at all the right times and we still love sending her pictures of our surprise baby girl! Alison will forever be such an important part of our lives, we are so lucky to have had her in the room!
Our experience working with Alison was fantastic. Prior to the birth, during the stages of labor, and after birth, Alison provided just the right amount of educational, physical, and emotional support. She taught us about the birth process, helped us create a birth plan, and met with us to discuss expectations regarding labor and delivery. During delivery, Alison helped my wife with breathing and relaxation techniques, pain relief, and positioning during labor. She was an advocate for us in our interactions with the hospital staff. Alison's efforts contributed to a very successful birthing experience! After birth, Alison helped my wife with breastfeeding techniques and stayed in contact with us to provide emotional support when necessary.
Going into this, I was unsure how a doula would benefit us. After our tremendous experience with Alison, I am now an advocate for using a doula. Alison was very effective at respecting my role as a husband and dad in the delivery room. She was never overbearing. I strongly recommend hiring Alison as your doula! You will not regret it.
Alison was full of knowledge and support from the moment we sat down to make our birth plan to the last postpartum visit. She was always attentive and informative with all her responses when I texted her questions and photos throughout my pregnancy, I felt comfortable being open about my body to her and didn't hesitate to seek her opinion. As a doula she was supportive of our choices when we made our birthplan and was able to cover a range of possibilities and small details that can mean so much during labor, delivery and recovery. When I made the call at 3:30am that I was being admitted to labor and delivery she was quick to make sure I didn't feel scared as it was four weeks early and was at my side 40 miniutes later. Alison showed up with her bag of doula goodies, a ton of energy and ideas on how we could start contrations. Her knowledge and experience with labor and delivery dispelled our fears of the unknown as she knew what the next steps where at every stage. We felt Alison was both emotionally detached enough from the situation while also being invested and supportive to help us make rational and informed choices about induction and pain managment. She held my hand, wiped sweat from my brow, and coached me through intense contractions, she was a pillar of emotional support and good humor during a time at which I was most vunerable and after many hours of work she didn't leave till we were settled in our recovery room. Alison visited us at home for postpartum care, my husband and I do not have family living near enough to us to help with the baby, so her visits were a great relief for us. She showed us how to use the Moby strip for baby wearing and was shoulder to cry on over how badly our first pediatrician visit had been (jaundice + weight loss). I cannot recommend Alison Wehr highly enough, her physical and emotional support were deeply appreciated and my husband and I are so touched that she was able to share this expereince with us.
We gave birth to our first child on October 12, 2016. Alison was an incredible resource and such a calming presence in an otherwise scary and overwhelming experience for first time parents. She met with us for two prenatal visits and provided us with a ton of information to ease the stress of the unknowns of labor and delivery. She gave us comfort measures to try and let us know about all of our options at the hospital. She was always available througout my pregnancy via email, text and phone calls.
I had to be induced because my water partically broke over night. Alison met us at the hospital once I was put on Pitocin the following afternoon. Her smile and calm demeanor immediately put me at ease and made my husband feel relieved too! Just having her in the delivery room made us both feel confident and relaxed. She was always by my side as my contractions intesified, waiting to step in and help me try different comfort measures. She and my husband made a fantastic team while I was going through labor. I couldn't imagine not having Alison there as I was pushing and experiencing this intense and beautiful moment of giving birth for the first time. She even got some incredible pictures immedaitely following delivery. I delivered at 1:30 am and she stayed until 4:30 to make sure we were completely settled and ready to get some rest.
Alison continued to check on us the next day and offer her availability in case I needed anything. We had our post-natal visit once we arrived home to make sure everything was going ok and nursing was successful!
We truly felt that Alison cared about us as more than just her clients. We really felt the love and continue to feel it even after our baby is over two weeks old. We'll always remember Alison as an important part of Connor's birth story. She's a special person and we will definitely stay in touch :)
I had Alison has my post-partum doula and words cannot describe how amazing she was to me and my little guy. She came over a few days after we got home from the hospital and it was a relief to have some experienced help! Alison helped us with everything and more! She gave us some diaper changing tips, showed us how to expertly swaddle our wiggle-worm and how to calm him down with rocking and other techniques. She also helped me out with breastfeeding and gave me so many pointers and tips to successfully breastfeed! Alison is such a caring and wonderful person, she made me feel comfortable with her immediately. She always listened to, and supported, my decisions. To this day, Alison still checks in on us, and we will always consider her part of our family.
First and foremost, Alison is my sister and I am so thankful that she was able to assist me on two of my three births. Both of my births were dramatic, but thanks to Alison's quick response and knowledge, everyone was okay. My first birth experience started with me waking up in the middle of night (in Alaska btw) realizing that something did not feel right. Of course, I jumped in the shower while Alison assessed the situation (I couldn't see anything-lol). Alison did a fantastic job keeping me calm and focused, while she continued to follow directions from the 911 operator. An ambulance was dispatched to my house (40 min from a hospital). I ended up having a prolapsed cord and needed emergency surgery. Alison's quick response and calming demeanor kept me calm and she is the true reason that everyone end up okay. My third birth was a traditional full labor birth. Alison assisted me during the hours of laboring and was able to teach me several different techniques to assist with pain management and a successful delivery. We had a scare at the last minute due to the baby’s heart rate, but as before, Alison was there to provide me will strategies to deliver a healthy baby. I am lucky to have Alison as my sister and am thankful that she had found her true calling as a Doula.
