Like many births, mine did not go exactly as I expected. I was so thankful to have Jaleh by my side. She helped us talk over the tough decisions, and was either with us or in contact with us through a few days of waiting for labor to start. We were both so grateful to have someone who created space for us to talk things over, and she was amazing during my labor. My husband was more than willing to help where he could, but there is just no substitute for an experienced doula. My son is a happy and healthy two year old, and though there are things I would have done differently with the benefit of hindsight, I am now able to reflect with satisfaction on the whole experience, and that is entirely because of Jaleh.

After researching our options and interviewing three doulas, my husband and I chose to work with Jaleh because of her years of experience, her intelligence, and how comfortable we both felt with her. I was planning a VBAC, and was committed to doing everything I could to make it happen. I truly believe having Jaleh as my doula was the best thing I could have done! We both felt supported and safe with her, and from the moment I knew I was in labor, I never doubted the VBAC would happen.
We met with Jaleh several times before the birth. We were able to share our hopes and questions about our birth plan, and she shared stretches and resources to help us prepare. She was also available by email and phone, and was always honest and supportive in our interactions.
Jaleh was at once calm and reassuring in the delivery room, bringing a grounded energy to the space. Throughout my labor I could feel that she was truly supporting me and doing everything she could to make my experience positive, whether it meant pulling my hair back, showing my husband specific physical support I needed, or helping me with a change of position so the nurse would stop complaining!
I have recommended Jaleh to many friends, and often share the wisdom and tips she gave me when I am leading La Leche League meetings. My husband and I continue to feel such a fondness for Jaleh and are grateful we could share the incredible experience of an unmedicated VBAC with such a giving woman!
