I gave birth 3 months ago to the most amazing baby girl. I’ve been meaning to write this review for some time now and am glad I finally feel up for the task of telling the world how completely amazing Laura Grace is. I honestly do not think I would have survived my birth experience and postpartum time without her. I think what I love most about my experience with Laura Grace is that she made me feel grounded and empowered. She helped to normalize my fears and anxieties and constantly reminded me how strong and brave I was. My labor was no easy journey filled with back labor, vomiting, nausea, and dehydration. She stuck by me through it all. She was my rock and knew exactly what to say and how to touch me so I felt comforted. With her support and reassurance I changed my birth plan and ended up having an epidural. She gave me the confidence to listen to my body and be ok with straying from my no intervention birth plan. By that point I had been in labor some 12 or 13 hours exhausted and dehydrated. With the epidural I got rest and regained my strength. It was a wild ride to say the least. Laura Grace never left my side. When nurses were short with me or pushy she was there to provide comfort and positive support. Her strength, knowledge, and compassion is what I feel got me through my birth. Althoigh, she would remind me that in fact it was me and my strength and my body that did all the work. When my baby was born purple and unresponsive she was there to explain that the baby had meconium aspiration and stayed with me while the nurses made sure our baby was safe. Laura Grace, I’m so thankful that you were part of this amazing journey with me and my husband. After we came home from the hospital and my milk was not coming in you were there. Again you reassured me and provided me with support. And sure enough the milk came. When I had the baby blues and could not stop crying you were there with support and reassurance. Thank you
Needless to say, our birth story with our baby Lewie did not go exactly as expected. We went into the experience hoping for an unmedicated birth, supported by a doula and with the midwife program at a local hopsital. We were thrilled to meet Laura Grace and knew that she would play a huge role in the birth of our son. (She was my prenatal yoga instructor too, which was awesome!)
However, we learned later in the pregnancy that the baby was breach. We tried everything to get the little guy to flip - version, moxibustion, laying upside down on an ironing board, handstands in the pool, playing music to my lower belly...everything. But, the baby let us know he was comfortable where he was - thank you very much! In the end, we had to schedule a C-Section at 40 weeks.
Through it all, Laura Grace was a strong, calming, constant supporter. She gave us the information we needed and the wisdom to feel like we were making the best decisions for our family. Even while preparing for the C-Section, she came to the house for a last prenatal visit to go over early labor and coping strategies, just incase Baby decided to make a last minute flip. In the hospital, she was with us before surgery and was actually allowed in the OR. She was there with us the whole time, and took the first pictures of the baby too!
I never would have thought that we could go through a major surgery like a C-Section and still feel like we had the perfect, family-centered birth. Laura Grace was such an integral part through our entire journey. We can't thank her enough and would highly recommend her to anyone!
My doula, Laura Grace! She educated us. She coached us. She comforted us. I remember throughout birth, I locked eyes with her and listened to her guidance. I'll never forget her voice and the things she said to get me through birthing my son. She was there for ME, and that was so comforting. I'm forever grateful for her. I highly recommend Laura Grace Zetlan as a doula. I highly advocate for expecting moms to hire a doula. It was the most empowering decision I made throughout this beautiful, life-changing experience! We love you laura Grace!
my husband and I hired Laura Grace late in pregnancy and it was by far the best decision we made. I told her immediately after, I can't imagine I ever even questioned hiring a doula. I firmly believe I would not have been able to make it through a 40 plus hour labor without her support, kindness, and amazing ability to provide effective strategies to cope with labor. Laura Grace is a wonderful person and an even better doula. Her balance of knowledge, compassion, and patience greatly enhanced our birth experience and ability to deliver vaginally. I can't say enough about her and how thankful we are we hired her.
My husband and I were unsure we wanted to hire a doula, but in retrospect it was the most important thing we did to prepare for our first child. Laura-Grace’s prenatal support helped us to focus on our transition into parenthood instead of only on baby. The resources, experience, and compassion she shared with us helped us build our birth preferences and feel confident in the first decisions we made as parents. Furthermore, Laura was professional about working with my anxieties and other mental health concerns in a way that was insightful but not clinical. We felt prepared when I went into labor. With me, that is easily said but not easily accomplished. I labored with trust and love instead of with the panic many women are taught to have about birth. When it came to labor, Laura’s presence was a godsend. When she arrived at our home, she quickly helped me to move my baby off my hip, where she had been stuck for several hours. I know that without Laura, I might not have had the strength left to complete my labor naturally. She was tireless, helping me conserve my energy with varying my positions, acupressure, and moral support. Also, I can’t say enough about her post-partum support. Reflecting on my birth with Laura helped me have concrete positive memories that were available to me when I was fighting postpartum anxiety and depression from gaining a strong foothold. Those memories would have otherwise faded quickly with all of the post-birth activity and the responsibility of newborn care. She has told us that she is our doula for life, and I know that isn’t a stilted expression. Laura is great in the way that people are great when they truly are invested in their work. Her love for her work is really remarkable, and my husband and I couldn’t recommend her more highly. Thank you, Laura, for being that pillar that we really needed. We couldn't have wished to find someone more capable or compassionate to share our birth with.
At first, my partner and I were undecided whether we would even have a doula. Now, we can't imagine our experience without Laura Grace's presence! While we were still pregnant, Laura was helpful in providing us with information related to some of the questions and choices that we had regarding our son's birth. We knew that she 100% had our backs in terms of the ultimate decisions we made. Our labor turned out to be a pretty quick one, and I'm still not sure how Laura made it to the hospital before we did, with our room set up the way we wanted, but she did! And during the throes of active labor, Laura was able to provide support to me in a way that I could hear. Afterwards, she made sure that I knew the importance of taking care of myself, as well my baby. Trust us, you want Laura Grace on your team!
We used Laura as our doula for our first pregnancy and she was the best! As first time parents, we had a lot of silly questions. She was always so available and helpful to us and provided helpful and non-judgemental guidance. She really made an effort to educate us about our options without bias and was a lovely and supportive companion to have during a long day (and night) of labor.
