I really wanted to have a normal delivery with no epidural. I was able to follow through with my birth plan and a lot of it was due to Melissa passing on her knowledge and experience of the birthing process to prepare me for delivery. My husband and I took her classes and followed her instructions in regards to exercise, diet, practicing visual and relaxation techniques. End result was I went to the hospital at midnight. I was at 10 cm at 3:00 A.M. and I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl at 3:22 A.M. Melissa gave me the confidence to stand up for what I wanted to do and be able to push in a squatting position which helped speed up the delivery. Thank you Melissa for all your help!!!
I found out I was pregnant at about 36 weeks. By that time, the doctor said it was too late to take a birthing class with the hospital. My Mom found Melissa through the web and asked if she would be able to give me any information. She followed up quickly and was able to do two 2-hour classes with my husband and me going over the birthing process and what to expect and do. It was amazing! I wish we had more time before birth to be able to take more classes. Definitely planning on using her for my next pregnancy in a few years and hope to be able to have her in the delivery room for that time. She has a wonderful attitude and demeanor and is so helpful. All the tips and tricks she gave us worked for the birth and alleviated a lot of pain. I'm so grateful she was able to accommodate us in the short time frame and will never forget her help!
Taking the Birth Boot Camp classes with Melissa is without question the best investment of time and money my husband and I made while preparing for the birth of our son. The structure of the Birth Boot Camp classes alone are well done – BUT taking the class with Melissa is what made it that much better. She is wise, open minded, attentive, easy to talk to and so willing to answer any questions we had. She led the class in a manner that was fun while at the same time, able to still get through just a ton of information. We really looked forward to our Thursday nights!
The class helps moms-to-be and their birth partners identify and hone their personal approach to finding the right birth for them through knowledge: you will walk away from this class with extensive knowledge of nutrition and exercise during pregnancy, the interventions frequently used during birth and their pros/cons, finding the relaxation methods that work best for you, and a general what to expect/how to identify the stages of labor and ways to cope - with Melissa supporting you the whole way! She is observant and was able to help us to make our own decisions about how we felt about particular topics by asking the right questions – without judgment and with only the goal of helping us have the birth we wanted – safe and healthy.
The added bonus was getting to see my husband invest in being not just the ‘dad to be’, but a true birth partner. Without Melissa and the information she taught us in class, our son’s delivery may have gone much differently!
When my wife first told me about hiring a doula, I was skeptical. My thoughts where, everything will be taken care of at the hospital, no need for a doula. I soon started seeing the impersonal and rushed treatment my wife was receiving while going to her prenatal doctor visits. We would be left with a lot of questions and often having to turn to good ol' google for answers and suggestions.
We scheduled a consultation with Melissa to meet her and get information on her services. Once I saw the value and importance of a doula we hired her on the spot.
Without Melissa on our team, I would have been completely lost and unprepared. She gave us the tools and resources to have a successful pregnancy and birth. Eventhough our birth plan changed the day of the birth, I felt I had enough knowledge to make the best decisions as the curveballs came at us.
She taught my wife proper nutrition, stretching and exercise, relaxation methods, and signs of labor among many other topics. I learned ways to affirm my wife, be a support, words of encouragement, my role as her birth partner, and the most important, we learned on unnecessary hospital interventions.
You NEED to hire Melissa!
My experience with Melissa was over and beyond what I would and could have dreamed of. I chose her as an instructor for Birth Boot Camp and for her Doula services. She was very informative and kind. She not only taught in an effective way, she brought my husband and I even closer. He knew exactly what to do, what to say to me thoughout labor, and be my number one support during my natural labor. I would highly recommend her for multiple reasons: One, she strongly believes in having a natural, unmedicated vaginal birth and educates on the best possible ways to achieve that, and why. Two, she helped me understand labor as a whole and was very helpful in actively changing my positions to help my baby's position, as well as the cervix. Three, most of all she was there for me emotionally and was there to give my husband a break from my long 27 hour labor. She truly made my daughter's birth manageable, enjoyable, and lovable.
