I am beyond grateful that I chose Alex w/ Compassionate Births to be my birth doula. She was genuine & friendly at our initial meeting (complimentary consultation - where she encouraged me to shop around for other doulas to make sure I was making the best decision for me and the babe-to-be). That alone impressed me, and truly reflects the name of the business "compassionate" - Alex was excellent in helping me use techniques that would allow me to gather all the info I could on what would be the best choices for my body and my birth. She accompanied me to my first NST which ended up being at the hospital, and stayed with me the whole time, while reassuring me that everything was going well, and helping me understand what the test results meant :) two days later, Alex came to the hospital & stayed with me again the whole time, for the next 24 hours, until I gave birth - all through having a foley bulb inserted, hours of unmedicated pitocin contractions, and even stayed while they wheeled me off (the next afternoon, FINALLY) to the OR for an unexpected c-section. She was such an amazing support and so loving and attentive while I labored - she did everything I asked, and even more. She even talked with my parents, and helped reassure them that I was in excellent care at this hospital, and my parents had nothing but good things to say about her! I'm so blessed to have had her with me during my birth experience. This lady was a total birth warrior for me!!! When my whole birth plan exploded in my face, she was there cheering me on, and praising me and keeping me motivated! The only thing I regret was not being able to have her in the OR with me when my son was born, the doctors would only allow my husband to be with me in the room. Needless to say I am more than thrilled that Alex was such an integral part of my birth team, and I would absolutely hire her to be my birth doula again AND I would recommend her to any and all expecting mothers that I know!
When I first met Alex, I knew I wanted her as my doula. I felt her warmth, strength and sincerity right from the start. I experienced her generous with her time as she patiently listened to my desires, needs and concerns. Her warm and nurturing presence put me at ease and I felt safe to express my feelings of fear and joy towards my upcoming birth. I experienced her as ready and willing to offer support before, during and after the birth of my son. When it felt impossible for me to finish all of my birth preparations, Alex stepped in and supported finishing up some things I needed. After he was born, there were several occasions that she offered her support with breastfeeding and even helped me figure out that my son was suffering from reflux. I felt safe and deeply supported by Alex. I feel grateful that she was at my sons birth and I highly recommend her for exceptional doula care.
Before I became pregnant I did not know much about pregnancy, let alone doulas! As I gained more knowledge and grew more (physically and mentally!) I realized I wanted a doula at my birth. I am naturally shy and was timid about having someone there during one of my most intimate and intense moments. I did not make this decision lightly.
I could not have asked for a better helper, friend, and professional in having Alex as my doula. She was well informed, comforting, kind and prepared! She encouraged me in keeping hydrated, helped me with positions and was amazingly alert and calm for more than 18 hours. My birth did not go as planned and we ended up at the hospital. She made not only the birth experience at the birth center a positive experience, but absolutely made me more comfortable and at ease at the hospital. She knew what was going on and helped me through the stress of making a decision for a C section.
I am so incredibly grateful to have had such an experienced and intelligent doula at my birth. I don't know how I would have made it without her. Thank you Alex!
I was so blessed that a friend introduced me to Alex. My husband and I interviewed with her and I felt an immediate connection which made me feel more excited about having a doula at my birth. Alex was friendly and caring throughout my pregnancy. She would often check on me, and offer suggestions and tips since she's a mom too. She was able to offer breastfeeding advice and support, after birth, which was so appreciated and helpful. The day I went into labor, Alex came over and immediately helped to relieve pressure from contractions. This being my second birth, but first doula experience, I didn't know about counter pressure. I wish I had looked into hiring a doula with my first pregnancy because it would have helped me to have a better birth experience overall. Alex walked with me and helped me breathe through contractions which took my focus off of the pain. During labor, she continued to apply counter pressure, helped me with my breathing, which greatly helps, and gave me cold compresses, drinks, etc to help me to be more comfortable. I had an amazing homebirth on Monday, May 23rd, and I am so thankful for Alex's help!!!
