Having Amy as my doula was one of the best decisions I made. She spent time with me prior to my induction teaching me about exercises and methods and was available to answer any question that I had. I really liked that she took the time to find out what I envisioned for my labor & delivery and asked how she could make that happen. She was there the morning of induction with everything she could possibly need! It was important to me to create a calm environment with few distractions so she made that happen with a humidifier, dim lights, and letting visitors know when I needed time to relax. The first day was long, she encouraged me to move around and made sure I was comfortable. We did exercises, made loops around the hall, massaged, and talked. She made notes of my progress and each time the nurse or doctor came in to check on me. Night came and progress stalled, but Amy stayed and made sure I was ok. I know my husband greatly appreciated having her there that first day as well so he could have some relief and also talk with family. My water was broke the next morning and then the hard part started! She was my biggest cheerleader, she talked me through contractions, helped me breathe,  and applied counter pressure on my back until her arms were numb. She knew it was important to me to stay out of bed as much as possible so she urged me to get up and I'm so glad she did. After 8 hours it was time to push, she was right there cheering me on and making sure I was using correct pushing methods and suggesting new ones to try. When I was told I had to have an emergency c-section she was my advocate to the doctor because I was at a loss for words. She knew what to ask and then mentally prepared me. After surgery she was there to show my husband how to do skin to skin and waited for me to come back to the room. She helped me with breastfeeding and made sure I was comfortable in my new role before leaving. She made a huge impact in my birth experience.
