My husband and I decided to hire a doula during my first pregnancy to assist us with all of the unknowns that come with your first pregnancy. We attended a parenting class where we met Aisha and immediately felt connected to her. I took comfort in knowing that Aisha was a young mom herself and that she had a current perspective of pregnancy and delivery. The hiring process was easy and Aisha regularly checked in with me to see how I was feeling and if I had any pregnacy/delivery questions. When the morning came that my water broke, I was relieved to have Aisha as a contact as it was early in the morning and my doctors office was not open yet. Without Aisha for guidance on what to do as things were happening I would have been a little overwhelmed to say the least in the moment. While my original plan in hiring a doula was to labor at home as much as possible did not work out with my water breaking, Aisha was very helpful in the hospital environment. Aisha regularly made suggestions to the nurses to help with my labor process including use of labor balls and position sugestions, and I feel her suggestion of using a peanut ball to help dialate me after 20+ hours is what finally got things going in a positive direction for me. I would recommend Aisha and hiring a doula to any first time parent to ease your mind about the labor process!
I read about the services offered by doulas but my doula provided so much more before, during, and after child birth. Aisha was knowledgeable in answering mine and my husband's labor questions, even showing video to prepare us as much as possible. During labor, Aisha was beyond encouraging, providing massage techniques during intense contractions. When it was time to push, I remember her chanting, "you are doing so great, keep it up." Those words mean everything when you've just pushed as hard as you could and you have to muster the strength to do it again. When I began hemorrhaging and the doctor had a difficult time controlling the bleeding, Aisha was there, dividing herself to comfort my husband, our baby, and me. When my husband was panicked, mind racing, Aisha made sure he was able to hold on to our baby jayden to ease him and distract him. And while I was going into hypovolemic shock, aisha was holding my hand. I can't even talk about my labor story without mentioning my doula. My husband and I are so grateful and beyond pleased with the services we received. Even after the birth Aisha has been helping me through Breast-feeding difficulties and introducing me to an amazing lactation consultant. Having a baby is such an emotional experience and we were so happy to have our doula for the extra support.
