We hired Kirsten to help us after the birth of our baby, a boy, after interviewing several post-partum doulas. Kirsten was in touch with us in the last weeks of my pregnancy and came to help during our first week home. The days that I knew Kirsten would be coming over were so much less daunting than the other days and I could breathe a little easier. She is lovely to be around and very calm and helped me stay relaxed instead of adding to the stress of being a new mom. She was great with the baby and he was happy in her arms. It was such a help to have her as I was finally able to tackle some of the tasks on my to-do list (shower! cook and eat! phone calls!). She helped show us how to use the moby wrap and bathe our squirming newborn. Whenever she changed/bathed/held him he was calm and didn't cry. Unfortunatley, this was not the case when my husband or I did any of those things. ;)
Kirsten was good about making sure I had food and something to drink and was a lovely presence to be around. She is very easy to talk to and I never felt awkward about asking her to do anything for me or the baby or around the house. She would proactively ask what she could do next, which was good as I would easily get distracted with the baby.
KIrsten made a huge difference in my family's transition to a second child. When she was there, it was the only time I could actually relax becauee I knew someone had the baby who would not be phased by the crankiness of an infant. She made our life feel so much more organized and calm. I didn't realize how much I was getting stressed out by things like laundry and dishes in addition to the two little ones until Kirsten helped me get all of it under control. And she really made me feel like my own healh and well being were her priority, which was nice when I was so unfocused on them mylself at the time. Kirsten was also able to offer incredible support with nursing, which was more difficult this time around. I cannot reccomend Kirsten highly enough!
Kirsten came to my home a few days after my second child was born. I had contacted her on very short notice and she was so accommodating in coming over the same day that I had reached out to her. I was in a bit of a panic because my newborn son and I were struggling a bit with nursing. Kirsten observed his nursing and recommended different positions and gave me some helpful tips on how to achieve a better latch. Ultimately, she did refer me to an IBCLC and it was discovered that he had both a tongue and a lip tie. Kirsten came back when the IBCLC came to visit. She has a very nurturing, calming presence. She naturally and instinctively helped me with little things around the house without my asking, such as offering to change my son's diaper, getting me some more water from the kitchen, or going into the other room to entertain my energetic four-year-old daughter, who was a little distracting for me while trying to nurse my son. Though I primarily needed help with breast-feeding and Kirsten was certainly helpful to that end, I could tell that she also knew just how to help an overwhelmed mom. She really put me at ease.
Kirsten was also great in following up with me regularly, checking in with me via text and offering continued services. I really needed that support in the early days. I would highly recommend Kirsten for postpartum Doula services as well as breast-feeding support. She's clearly knowledgeable, having two children of her own. She came highly recommended to me as well.
