Sofie is a fantastic doula! I can't say enough about her. Both my husband and I can attest that her presence at the birth of our son was a tremendous help. Before meeting Sofie I was a little concerned about how a doula would pan out and how we would interact together given she would be with me through a very personal experience. I had no need to worry with Sofie. I feel her personality would mesh well for just about anyone. She was extremely loving and encouraged me the whole way. She helped me to feel strong! She was there without being in the way or overbearing. When she gave suggestions they were gentle and just what I needed. When pushing got really hard, Sofie seemed to know how to physically support me and help me through. My sister (mother of 5), my husband, and two midwives wouldn't have helped me in the same way. I know that because this was my second child and the first birth did not go this way. Thank you, Sofie!
My experience with Sofie was fantastic. I thought that I had a large amount of knowledge about childbirth and I went into her classes expecting to learn just a little bit more, and to hopefully feel enlightened, but it was much more than I expected. First off, I realized how little I knew about childbirth itself, and the shock of that sent me reeling, but in a good way. After taking her classes, I feel so much more prepared to have my baby, and I'm grateful that I can and will understand the changes that my body makes in the next few weeks, as I prepare for and go into labor. Sofie, helped take the fear out of birth for me, and I trust that the confidence she instilled within me will stay even during my childbirth experiences.
I have a good relationship with Sofie, but I was initially indifferent to hiring a doula. I honestly didn't see any value that one would add to our situation, but my wife was interested in having one so we hired Sofie. Long story short, having Sofie serve as our doula was nothing short of amazing. She helped us in ways that is hard to put into words. Suffice it to say, my wife's pregnancy, as well as my composure, would not have been as smooth had she not been there. Sofie has a great personality, is easy to get along with, and is very knowledgable in her profession. If she is nearby for any of our future children, we will definitely have her serve as our doula again.
I had an amazing opportunity last year to attend a "Closing of the Bones" cerimony. It was done for me and for each of my sisters. With Sofie as our host and educator, I knew we were in for a very personal and spiritual exploration. I can say that it was one of the most emotionally cleansing things I have ever experienced. I cried tears of pure love and gratitude during the shared experience with those I feel closest to. For me, it felt as if I had traveled through burial and awakening, dependence and stregthening, innocence and enpowerment, gaining a true understanding of what it really means to be a woman.
I was immediaetly intrigued when Sofie told me about the Closing of the Bones ceremony. Most of my sisters and I would be together for the holidays so she thought it would be a perfect opportunity to introduce us to this magical experience. There were three new babies in the family; mine, Sofie's and my little sisters. They would all be meeting each other for the first time and I was feeling so blessed.
Five of my six sisters, Sofie (my sister in law) and I all gathered one afternoon without the distractions of family; which is a very rare occasion. We all set up in my sister's living room, arranging the furniture so we were sitting in a large circle. Fabric was draped over distractions like the TV. Candles were lit, essential oil was diffused and curtains were drawn. I can't describe the overwhelming feelings that came over me as Sofie invited us to take a deep cleansing breath and close our eyes. The fact that she had made this moment happen was incredible, and we hadn't even begun the ceremony. All other thoughts fell away as she began describing the journey we were about to take. Many wonderful tears were shed. My mind and body were completely filled with love and gratitude that day. Through our touch and our words, spoken and unspoken; we were able to express our appreciation for each other as sisters, mothers, women, and warriors. I love my sisters deeply and am forever grateful for this experience. I want to thank Sofie for being such an amazing and powerful force in my life and my family's lives.
When Sofie first told me about the Closing of the Bones ceremony I was immediatiely intrigued. It sounded like the very thing I needed at the time. I was still struggling with wrapping my head around the birth of my son almost six months earlier. I had labored for almost three days and ended up having a cesearean birth.
I intially wasnt thinking about getting a doula until my midwife suggested because i was giving birth for the first time. I went back and forth but knew if I was to choose a doula it would be Sofie Jacobsen. I choose Sofie for several different reasons; a few of them being she knew what it was like to have a home birth, the closing of the bones ceremony she offers and the love and dedication she has for her work. Plus she is fun and easy to get along with!
My husband and I loved the different classes her services included from her teaching us in detail cervix dialation/ the birthing process, breastfeeding, breathing techniques, and postpartum expectations.
The night before I gave birth I was having some really painful contractions. We called Sofie and she came over right away. She kept track of my contractions, help me move into different positions and applied pressure to my knees and back and did this throughout my whole labor. I could tell she was tired but she gave us all of her energy and if it wasnt for her being there three hours before the rest of my birth team showed up my birth would not have gone so smoothly. I'm grateful for all of her hard work and that she was part of our birth story.
