As first time parents, we are so grateful that Rachel was our Doula. She is very knowledgeable and was supportive during my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum times. SHe helped us create the best birth plan for our family, and it was great peace of mind knowing we had someone to help advocate for us in the hospital. I would recommend Rachel, and I'm very glad that Rachel was part of the birth of our son.
After having our first child with many unnecessary medical interventions I knew I wanted extra support in the delivery room with our second. My aunt was my Doula for our second child and it made a world of difference! We moved eight hours away from family shortly before I was pregnant with our third so I was delighted to find so many options in the Des Moines area. I met Rachel and was confident immediately that I had found who I needed! Rachel worked hard to understand exactly what I wanted from this labor & delivery experience. She was knowledgeable, supportive and encouraging. She gently reminded me of things I had said I wanted. It was almost like having a family member there with me! I was able to deliver our sweet baby girl with no epidural just as I had hoped. We are beyond thankful we found Rachel!
Rachel could not have been more helpful before, during, and after our labor and delivery experience. She is extremely knowledgeable and answered literally hundreds of our questions with no judgment as we prepared our birth plan. Having those conversations ahead of time and learning more about what to expect helped us go into the big day more calm and confident than we would have otherwise... especially as first-time parents. Once the labor process started, Rachel was extraordinary. She stayed cool, calm, and collected even when we very quickly had to move away from our ideal birth plan. After hours of contractions with potocin and no dilation, she was an important resource in consultation with the midwife about how to proceed. Having her there to discuss options and help us to see the big picture was instrumental in helping me stay open and positive about what was happening. She was also incredibly helpful tag teaming comfort techniques with my husband—their backrubs and pelvic squeezes enabled me to make it through the worst of the contractions. Even after 12 hours with us, she stayed so calm and patient—she was always there when we needed her, but was never "in the way". Our post-partum visit was also super helpful as she checked in on us, offered some tips for new parents based on her own experience as a mom and her doula studies, and recounted our labor story with us. Throughout it all, her genuine care, humor, and warmth came through time and again—she is absolutely in the right profession and we would recommend her without hesitation!
Our experience with Rachel was life changing to say the least. First of all not only was she there for us to give us loads of actual pertinent information, she answered all of our questions without any judgement. If she didn't know an answer she was sure to research whatever she could and help us along the way. We are first time parents and really had no clue how our experience was going to be. The doctors were informative but, when you go to several, information gets mixed up and can tend to stress out parents more than it should. Rachel having had experience with most of the doctors we were going to and having 4 kids of her own was more than happy to fill in the blanks and ease our minds. When the day came she met us at the hospital with supplies in tow and was ready for anything. My wife had a bit of a tough delivery and as much as I wanted to be there for her for every second of it, when baby Tallulah came I had to tend to her while the doctor took care of my wife. She was scared to say the least but Rachel was there for her every step of the way. Seriously I can't say enough nice things about having Rachel as our doula. She was absolutely the only way we would have made it through our experience.
We loved have Rachel as our doula. Rachel was very concerned about our feelings and wishes- before, during and after the birth of our son. She helped us to make informed decisions in a judgement free environment. Her reassurance and support was an incredible way to welcome our child in to the world and support us as parents. We felt she was very knowledgeable about around all the questions we had. She also provoded a visit after the birth walking us through how labor and delivery went. Could not have asked for a better experience.
