We had met with Samantha and Alannah a couple months before our delivery, and we felt so comfortable with their warm personalities. Samantha informed us that Alannah would be her Doula backup, as she already had births scheduled the month I was due. They both did a home visit, and walked us through what their services would look like. It was so lovely that they drove all the way from Orillia to our home in Rosseau. Their attitudes towards labour and delivery were so positive and encouraging. They turned our fears into excitement and really eased our stress. Alannah ended up attending our birth as Samantha was unavailable that evening. Alannah made the midnight drive to our home in the middle of the night, departing immediately after our call. She arrived around 3 am when our midwife also arrived. It was instant relief for my husband when she arrived, as she made him and I feel so calm and supported. She helped us through the contractions with positive and encouraging motivation (as I didn’t want to be touched during the labour). Even though I had only met Alannah a couple times previously, she exuberated such kindness and support that I would have expected from a long-time friend. I knew she had my best interests in mind. One of my most vivid (and hilarious) memories during the labour, was when I was having contractions while sitting on the toilet. My husband and Alannah were in the bathroom with me; my husband was holding my IV while Alannah fed me Jello. This memory makes me laugh, as this is not how I envisioned labour to be! However, Alannah had no judgement and just “rolled with the punches” during the entire process. She was just simply catering to my every need. During the actual birth, Alannah took photos which are now my prized possessions. Even during/after the labour, she was there to let my dogs out – which was such an amazing blessing. I wanted to give my absolute sincere thanks and review for her services.

Alannah was an incredible doula and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a doula to support them through birth. Alannah met with me prior to the birth to talk through my birth plan and to help me think of all of the things I needed to consider. She then did a mini-birth class with my husband and I, helping us to understand coping strategies for labour and how my husband could support me.

During labour she was an absolute champ. She laboured with me at home for 7 hours before we transitioned to the hospital and she stayed with me there for another 12 hours before heading home. Her relentless support was invaluable and helped me to cope with all that labour threw at me. She provided physical support through massage and counter-pressure, emotional support during times of difficult decision making and even walked up and down stairs with me to help progress labour. My birth experience was not at all what I had imagined, ending up with an emergency Cesarean section, but I feel that it was made positive and meaningful because of the support I had in my birth team, of which Alannah was a central part.

My husband was quite uncomfortable with the idea of being part of my birth team while I was pregnant and Alannah's presence and encouragement helped him to feel comfortable and to provide me with the best support he could. His participation in my son's birth was made possible by her involvement and that's such a gift to me.

Thank you Alannah for being such a gift to us and for helping to make my birth experience such a positive one!

I am very thankful for Alannah and the service she provided!! I was in contact with a lady from my area regarding placenta encapsulation and a week before my due date she quit responding to my messages. I came across Alannah's post on Facebook and sent her a message, she responded right away and was able to meet with me a few days later and take me on as a client. I was truley grateful that she was able to help me on such short notice. She's very reliable and was always quick to respond with any questions or concerns I had. Thank you Alannah!!!

Alannah was an incredible person to have as part of my birth experience. She visited with myself and famy before the birth to get to know us and our plans for the labour/birth. As soon as I was in labour, I called her, and she met us at the hospital. She helped me through very strong contractions and always made sure I was breathing properly to lessen the intensity of the contractions. She also used many techbniques to help me through the contractions. Pushing was very intense and she helped me focus so that I did not last as long as it could have. Alannah is a wonderful person to have befiore, during, and after labour. I would highly recommend her to anyone planning a natural birth.
