We met with a few doulas before we made our decision and Meredith was the only one who was incredibly well informed about the birth process, techniques for comfort and could explain exactly how she would get my husband involved in the birthing process. Additionally, she has far more experience than other doulas we'd met, well over 100 births. She is always enthusiastic and kind, someone you want to be around coaching you on! If you're shopping around for a doula, stop your search and just sign up with Meredith. You certainly will not be disappointed.
Meredith is an incredible doula for all stages - pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond! She helped me so much when it came to preparing for my most recent birth. She was not only a great resource for physical comfort measures for both pregnancy and labor, but she also really guided me through the emotional preparation piece.
I have also seen Meredith in action as I've attended births where she is the doula and her energy is calming, grounding, and soothing. She is so knowlegdable when it comes to comfort techniques and position changes. Her moms labor comfortably and beautifully with her as a guide. As a fellow birthworker, it is so reassuring to know that I have someone as a backup who I would trust at my own birth. The Baltimore birth community is so lucky to have someone as skilled as Meredith!
Meredith has been a light on my journey and has become my mentor, friend, sister.. Her knowledge and compassion speaks volumes for the support she offers. She becomes everyone's friend and follows thru. I trust Meredith to be my back up and I trust her with my client referrals when needed. She really takes the time to make my family feel a part of her family. I don't know if anyone in the Birth community who doesn't love Meredith!
Having Meredith as my doula entirely changed my extremely messy and complicated pregnancy and birth. As a single, first time mom with endless issues in my life, I needed A LOT of educating and help. I can honestly say my pregnancy, birth, and post birth would have been a negative experience without Meredith.
She was available any time of the day to answer questions via text and phone or to just ease my anxieties and help me figure out life. Her knowledge and ability to explain otherwise complicated and scary ideas and make them easy to understand and feel confident about my ability to give birth and be prepared for this huge change in my life. My pregnancy was concidered complicated and I had to have a birth at a hospital I didnt want with a doctor I never met. Despite all the circumstances I was unable to change, Meredith allowed me to feel in control and completely capable at not just giving birth but being a first time, single mom. During my birth, she advocated for the things I couldn't. Never once was her own agenda pushed onto me. I was well informed with lots of time and resources. She gave so much of her time to me, If I had to choose nurses, an OB's, or a Meredith? I'd choose a Meredith. The support continued well after my pregnancy, where she was still available and hands on. I'd like to also add how wonderful and important it is to be around a non-judemental human who you can be yourself around during this time. This- in addition to her knoweldge, generosity of time, kindness, presence, compassion and care....you cannot find a better doula!
If you are in need of great communication or are a single mom please reconsider hiring Meredith. I hesitated whether to leave a review, as I usually want to let things go, but I thought that if I could spare anyone from going through what I went through, it would be the right thing to do. I was a single first time mom and on medicaid. I hired Meredith and ended up cancelling her services at 28 weeks +5 days pregnant. After continously reaching out to schedule my first prenatal appointment and being ignored or told "I'll have to get back to you," I finally let her know that she was not the right doula for me. I assumed she would be keeping the $200 deposit and refunding me the remaining $450 that I had already paid, but she kept the entire $600 and only refunded me $50. I was shocked and emailed her several times about this decision, she ignored me and didn't respond to any of my communication, she sent me a letter in the mail saying I signed the agreement that said if I cancelled after 28 weeks, she keeps $600. 1. I never had any prenatal appointments with her 2. I rarely spoke with her (10 texts exchanged in 5 months) 3. I alerted her that I needed emotional support as I went through my first pregnancy alone 4. The last text I sent, I waited 7 days with no response, so I cancelled the services 5. She knows I was scraping by to pay for her services. 6. I was only 5 days past the 28 week cut off. The portion of the contract that she says I had signed was very confusing because it was written on the top of the "photo release form" which I did not sign, yet she told me it was signed as part of her whole packet. Whenever I think of this experience it makes me feel ill. I was going through so much and really needed a good support and instead I feel I was ignored and cheated out of $400, which seems like a small amount, but would make a huge difference in my and my daughter's lives. I'm happy to share more about my experience upon request on FB.
I cannot recommend Meredith Dew with Mobtown Doulas enough. The second my husband and I met Meredith, we knew she was a perfect fit for us and we cancelled our other meetings. My pregnancy did not go the way I wanted or expected it to, but the one thing that was as perfect as it could be was the actual birth of our daughter. One of the best decisions I ever made was deciding to have a doula for her birth. I had a lot of anxiety surrounding this pregnancy and once the (same day) decision was made that I needed to be induced the anxiety only increased from there. Meredith was with us every step of the way and helped to ease both of our worries. Throughout labor, I said (ok, I yelled/cried) multiple times that I just couldn’t do this anymore, as the pain was too much. Meredith looked me straight in the eye and told me “Yes you can, you are doing it, you are going to have a baby”. She encouraged me and physically helped me through all of my contractions (all of which were back labor by the way) and found different ways for me to cope throughout. She also found ways for my husband to be involved and be an active participant in the birth. Without Meredith, there is no way I would have made it through an unmedicated birth after being induced and having intense back labor. She made it all possible and helped give me a birth experience that I will never forget. If you are looking for a doula that is very passionate and knowledgeable about the birthing process, makes you feel cared for and loved, then Meredith with Mobtown Doulas is the perfect fit.
I contacted Meredith during my 4th and final pregnancy. I wanted to have a different experience than I had with the births of my other children as my main goal was to be epidural free which I hadn't done before. I was unfortunately induced and put on Pitocin but Meredith was there for me the entire time. I was incredibly surprised how she got me though each painful contraction while on the Pitocin in a hospital setting, she even put me to sleep with massage and I slept though some painful contractions up until it was time to deliver. My husband and I were both so thankful for her otherwise I would not have been able to have the epidural free birth I wanted so badly. Meredith's was extremely knowledgeable allowing us to make better decisions throughout my labor and delivery. If you want a doula who's going to make you feel like family that is passionate about birth, Meredith is the one!
From the very first meeting we knew Meredith was “the one” for us. I had a lot of fears surrounding childbirth after having a difficult delivery the previous year. Meredith provided logical solutions and confidence to address similar issues in the future, reassuring me that she would be my advocate every step of the way. She also helped me work through my emotions so that I could feel prepared and peaceful during labor and delivery. I am not able to have epidurals due to a previous surgery, so pain management is very important to me. Meredith supported me beautifully through a water labor and delivery by focusing my breathing, my positions, and my perspective to minimize pain as much as possible. One of the main reasons we chose Meredith as our doula is because we understood her value. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience with pregnancy, labor, and delivery, and also with nursing, post-natal recovery, and even parenting tips for my one-year old son. At any point, from conception to the present, I knew that I could ask Meredith anything, and if she didn’t know the answer she could point me in the right direction. As soon as we conceive baby #3, Meredith will be among the first to know; we are excited to experience delivery with her again!
Meredith was amazing! There is so much to know, so much to understand, and too much to remember during labor. Meredith created an incredibly calm evironment, supported us every step of the way and made the birthing experience extremely positive. We are so happy with the relationship we have built with Meredith and highly recommend her to any family considering natural birth!
I am beyond pleased with my experience with Meredith! The moment we decided to choose her as our Doula I felt a weight come off my shoulders! Her calm and positive presence helped me feel confident that my baby and I were in good hands. Meredith was there every step of the way helping to make sure we had the birth we wanted, from planning to delivery and even beyond, she made sure we were getting the support we needed. One thing I loved about Meredith that I searched hard for was someone who catered to what we wanted and would tell me all choices and opinions without forcing her own. In the planning, Meredith was helpful in informing me of my choices and letting me make the best choice for my family concerning our birth plan. During delivery, she was a calming voice reminding me of my choices and helping me feel comfortable and relaxed. My birth story is everything I had imagined and wanted. I believe this is largely due to the support I had from Meredith and the guidance she gave me. I would highly recommend Meredith Dew to anyone looking hire a Doula for their birth.
Meredith was extremely knowledgeable, and flexible. I had wanted a natural birth and ended up with a Cesarean, she was helpful in the process and offered a lot of emotional support throughout the pregnancy and birth. I'm thrilled with her services and highly recommend her to anyone. Her follow up care has been super helpful as well.
Meredith approached me during a time in my pregnancy when I had no idea what I wanted for my birth. Some people were telling me that I needed to have a hospital birth with an epidural, some people urged me to have a natural birth. Meanwhile, I was overwhelmed with fear over the pain that I knew I would feel during childbirth, and the fear that I would make a wrong decision. Meredith was extremely helpful in my decision-making process, and guided me to make my own decisions. She provided me with facts and gave unbiased advice, so I never felt like she was telling me what to do. She has such a caring and calming energy, and totally put me at ease.
As for my actual birth, it was a totally unmedicated 41 hour-labor at our farm house. Meredith stayed with us for nearly the entire labor and was reachable at all hours of the night. Even when she was exhausted, she held my hand through contractions when my partner couldn't. When my contractions spaced out, Meredith and my partner helped me walk up and down the stairs of our house, helping me squat to open up my hips, and finally, when my daughter was moments from birth, I was completely focused on Meredith's voice telling me that I was doing great.
Having Meredith for our doula made our birth such a great experience. She came for a visit a few days later to check how I was doing, and she is always available to talk when I need support or advice. My partner and I are so thankful to have her in our lives.
Meredith is a wonderful friend of mine and my family. She was so much help in educating me about different birthing techniques and options. She gave me so much advice about pregnancy, labor, breastfeeding, parenting and postpartum depression. She is a little hippie or granola, as some would say, but she does not allow that to cloud how she interacts with mother, father and baby. She never judges and when she doesn't know the answer to something, she finds out! She is a very easy and comfortable person to ask questions of and speak freely of. I am so grateful for her friendship and the role she has played in my daughters first few months of life.
I could not have been more thankful to have had Meredith as my doula for my most recent birth and I completely credit Meredith for the success of my VBAC. Long before I went into labor, Meredith, my husband and I had a phone conference where Meredith set our minds at ease, educated us on some key points we were unaware of, and set the tone to empower me to be able to have the exact birth that I wanted. She helped my husband understand the labor process in a way that he was oblivious before this birth experience. Meredith was a calm, grounding presence as I labored in early labor. She timed my contrations so that I didn't have to think about that and she took pictures so that I would have them later. Meredith kept the house dark and calm (despite some hustle and bustle) and let me labor on my own until she could tell that I needed help. The minute I felt like I couldn't labor by myself anymore, Meredith was there, pushing on my hips in just the right way to relieve pain. She acted as a liaison between me and my husband as my husband couldn't tell what I was saying during or between contractions. She was a strong, calming presence, constantly reminding me that I was doing great and that my body was meant to give birth and that it was doing everything it needed to do. In the hospital, Meredith continued to be very hands-on, even getting into the labor tub with me to continue putting pressure on my hips through contractions. As I reached transition and pushed, Meredith was my squatting bar holding me and reminding me to relax as much as possible to let my body do what it was meant to do. Meredith was knowledgeable and kind throughtout the entire pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. She was worth her weight in gold and I, without a doubt, will have her at my next birth.
Meredith's skills at birthing and the process of helping us introduce our son into the world blew my mind!
During our first child's birth, we both felt rushed, uninformed, and ultimately disappointed with the emergency C-section my wife went through. She wasn't able to stick with her birthplan wishes because of our lack of support.
From the consultation over-the-phone, until Meredith left our home 2-3 days after we came home from the hospital, we knew we were in good hands. The piece of mind we experienced during the labor-at-home transition to the hospital tub and bed were so different with her at our beck and call.
For any future children, we could not receommend a doula enough, and Meredith's services are what we would expect!
