The decision to hire doula services was a last minute one for us.  Looking back, I now consider it a pivitol moment combined with a stroke of good luck.  The powers that be sent us Yves.  And this is our story:

As the days ticked closer to my due date, my nonchalant, first-timer confidence started to waver.  I realized that me and my husband knew NOTHING about this endeavour we were about to embark on, so I started a frantic search for a doula.  Yves met with myself and my husband many times, in order to facilitate a bond between us.  She provided resources, guidance, and a feeling of nurturing, and of confidence.  She told us stories, she made us laugh, she was personable, yet extremely professional.  My due date was Dec 20th, and I was concerned that any person I hired would not be willing to give up Christmas with family for work.  Lo and behold, Christmas eve approached and finally my labour really commenced.  Yves talked me through every contraction, let my husband rest, and literally provided me a shoulder to lean on.  Yves not only forsaked her Christmas Eve AND day to be by my side, but I recieved several much needed support visits after.  I truly feel she went above and beyond in her duties to me as a doula, and I only hope that others find such solace in another person in their time of need.  Because of her aid and attention, I was able to stick very, very close to my birth plan, something that without her support I would never have been able to achieve.  From the bottom of my heart Yves, Thank You!

On May 2 my contractions started at 3pm so i called Yves because she was my birthing coach and she told me to head to the hospital and she would meet us there. When i would get my contractions, she would hold my hand and would tell me to breath and  that it will be over soon. Well lets say time past and more labour pains, Yves was right beside me, holding my hand and guided me through them and i am amazed she still has one.(i squeezed it pretty good)

I had a conversation with her and told her that i wasn’t going to breast feed because i wasn’t comfortable with the whole idea, she explained to me the facts about breast feeding and how it would be good for my baby, but i am as stubborn as they come and told her i wasn’t doing it and that was that!!!! So more time past and the doctor decided that they were going break my water...Well she inform me the the labour pains were about to get a whole lot worse and she wasn’t kidding they did, which again i was glad that she was there when those started. I’m glad that i had such a good friend and coach through all of my labour hours, she kept me calm and always talked me through the pain. When my son was finally born i was excited and scared at the same time, but Yves assured me that everything was going to be okay. Once i was all settled in my room after that many hours of giving birth she stayed with me making sure I was OK. When my son Matthew was all cleaned up and checked, they brought him to my room, i was really exhausted from my labour that Yves thought it was a good idea to put my son on my breast to feed him and I cannot thank her enough because it was the best thing she did.  Im glad that she bacame a birth Doula so she can help others becuase it takes a special person like her and i think she did a great job helping me through my birthing experience. Yves thank you for helping me bring my son Matthew into the world.

Your Friend Always

I think one of your best qualities as my doula (and really why I chose you) is your calm nature. I don’t really know how to describe it in words, but you really put me at ease, which helped so much during my labor. It’s also very apparent that you are passionate about the birth experience and that comes across in your demeanor. I’m so glad you were with me during this life changing experience. The birth of my daughter Donycha was one of the most empowering and emotional moments in my life and it was the support of my labor team that made all the difference. Thank you so much!

I first met with Yves at the beginning of my pregnancy, to introduce myself and my spouse and what kind of care we were looking for. After meeting her, my spouse and I decided to add her on our birth team with our midwife, Natalie Avery through Might Oak Midwifery .On our second visit we discussed our birth plane and what we wanted and shared it with our midwife

I truly don’t know where we would have been without Yves, her knowledge , her expertise and kindness not only was she my support team through my pregnancy and my 4.5 days of labour , she also helped my spouse through some emotional moments during labour .

Yves came to our home, and helped me labour out as much as I could at home and remained on call for us. She even went out of her way, and helped us out with doing a little housekeeping.

Unfortunately things didn’t go as we planned, baby heart rate was going up and down, plus on top of me not dilating anymore .Our midwife had told us we needed to get an emergency C-section, I felt so defeated, was I not able to have my drug free and natural labour that we had planned. Then I remember something that Yves told me at the beginning of pregnancy, “no matter if you have your babe with epidural, vaginal or C-section , you still having your baby naturally.”

She could see the tears in my eyes , and look of defeat and exhaustion, she reminded me that I am a strong women that most women , don’t go through as long of labour as me and I have done an amazing job going this far and not giving up.

She even stayed to make sure, I was doing ok after my surgery and to meet our little man. Yves is such a blessing to our family, the work she did for us words cannot describe how grateful we are for her and would be amazing member to add to you birth team.
