My experience with Amy was wonderful! We had great communication prior to my labor and delivery and she always made sure to check in with me after all my doctor appointments. If I ever had a question or concern, she would get back to me in a timely manner. My baby was in the posterior position which resulted in a long difficult labor. Amy provided great support the entire time, from the moment my contractions started to the delivery of my baby. My husband and I would not have been able to get through this long labor on our own. Amy was great in reminding me to drink water to stay hydrated, change positions often, to make use of the amenities in the labor room such as the shower, peanut ball and bathtub, and to channel the pain via low tones drawing the baby down. She also was great with her counter pressure techniques for my back labor pain. I would definelty have Amy provide her doula services if we have another baby I don’t feel like I could have done it without her!
Our experience with Amy for the birth of our second son has been absolutely amazing. It was our dream birth (and recovery) and it was made possible because of Amy and the experience and techniques she brought to the table. To be honest, I was very apprehensive about the concept of a Doula, and initially did not know exactly what the purpose for having a doula was. My husband was the one who highly encouraged me to pursue my initial conversation with Amy and from our first conversation I could not have been more confident that we had made the best decision in inviting her to help us accomplish our best birth. Amy prepared us before labor with articles, books, and a hands on appointment where she helped us practice many pain managing techniques. She checked in with us frequently and was the best encourager, especially at the end where pregnancy can be so emotionally and physically exhausting. Immediately after our birth, both my husband and I agreed that it was because of Amy's techniques, professionalism, and ability to read me as well as those part of my birthing team (my husband, the nurses, doctors, etc.) that our birth exceeded our dreams and expecations. We have been so pleased with Amy!
When I met Amy I knew she would be the perfect person to share our birth with and to rely on for emotional and physical support. She was knowledgeable, helpful, and never minded how many questions I wanted to ask! When she met my husband, she made him feel included and gave him helpful information. It was wonderful to have Amy to talk to after doctor's appointments and leading up to our baby's birth. I was induced, something I did not want, so having Amy to talk to was crucial. She helped me through Pitocin contractions and then she helped me and my husband navigate our way to a needed C section, something else I didn't want! I know that all of it went so much better because Amy was there for us. I would highly recommend her to anyone else looking for a doula.
It's hard to put into words how incredibly lucky we feel to have had Amy as our doula during pregnancy and for the birth of our daughter. She by far exceeded all of our expectations, and we are forever grateful for her. Throughout my pregnancy, Amy checked in with me before and after every single doctor's appointment. As a first time mom, she was a constant source of knowledge and reassurance. Looking back, I'm not sure how well I would have navigated several bumps in the road without her support. During the birth, she was an absolute super hero with incredible endurance and the ability to anticipate my needs (and the needs of my husband) every step of the way. It was a long labor and without Amy it could have very well ended with a C-section. Since the birth, Amy has been to our home for a postnatal visit and continues to check in to see how I am doing with breast feeding etc. She even took the time to wish me a happy first Mother's Day! She is very well connected in the local doula community and has made several helpful recommendations for breast feeding support etc. It is clear that Amy is passionate about her line of work, and deeply cares about the well-being of the families she works with. She is a highly skilled doula and is incredibly self-aware, helpful, caring, and in touch.
Amy recently served as my doula for the birth of my third child. This was my first birth with a doula present and the difference Amy made by being present with me was indescribable! Leading up to the birth-day, Amy's calm and proactive demeanor helped me to talk through my thoughts for what my ideal birth would entail and plan for different comfort measures for each phase of labor. She paid attention to little details and made sure to get to know my husband's point of view as well. This left me with a sense of calm and confidence as I headed to the hospital, knowing the time had come. Once there, Amy helped create a soothing environment with music, quiet voices, and suggestions of different positions and movements to try. I was able to get in my "zone" and I only had to focus on taking each contraction at a time, knowing that she was there to remind me of my plan and to comfort me and assist as necessary. Over the course of the entire labor and delivery, Amy worked as a team with my husband and made him feel included and involved as well and they made sure that I always had someone close by, counterpressure as needed, and kept hydrated. Overall, there is no way I could have had the amazing birth experience I did without the assistance of Amy. She truly listened to what was important to me in birth, used what she knows about my personality to make suggestions, and helped me to keep my focus. I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone currently looking for a doula.
Having Amy as my doula was truly a blessing throughout my pregnancy! She was very kind and helpful with offering information on my pregnancy that I had not known. She was very nice in making sure I was comfortable during my labor as well. I felt more at ease going into my labor knowing the information Amy had been providing me with throughout pregnancy. I felt very much like I had a friend helping me through labor rather than "just a Doula." I encourage anyone in search of a Doula to use Amy, as I will for any future pregnancies.
In regards to us welcoming our son into the world, Amy's presence was hands down an absolute must! She comes with grace, understanding, encouragement, strength and humor! There were times when she literally held me up and times when she was able to completely take my mind from the workload. She kept me focused and in awe of how much such a little lady can bring to the main event (don't let her fool you- she is STRONG inside & out). Her ability to assist me, my husband & a trusted friend though my labor truly made me feel like I had a dream team. When you are ready to pack your hospital bag, I would very much encourage you to make sure she is coming with you!!!!
