Emily was such an invaluable member of our birth team as our doula. She has a calming presence and knows the right type of support to provide at the right times, focusing on our needs as a couple in the birth journey. When she arrived, labor was just kicking into gear, and Emily jumped right in, cleaning Mom up, providing comfort and support, suggesting positions to try, and pressing on Mom’s back for hours; and importantly also supporting Dad’s efforts and reminding him to eat and use the restroom when he could. Emily was like a friendly spirit - her presence was clearly felt but was never intrusive or obvious, her keen intuition knew how to help us without words, tirelessly for hours. Sense of humor was a must for us, and she was able to roll with our sarcasm and jokes, which kept our mood positive through some of the hardest parts of labor. We are so glad she was with us for this journey and would never do it again without her!

When we first met Emily we knew she was meant to be part of our birth story. Not only did she know other members of my family, but they eagerly shared that they thought she was wonderful. Emily instilled us with confidence that she was a great fit and would help in every way possible.

I labored for a VERY long time, and Emily was there along the entire journey as a great source of support. She helped make sure I was comfortable, helped us make informed decisions, inspired confidence with out choices, and supported us as a family.

Also, thanks to Emily we have great photos of the delivery! I’m glad that she was the 2nd person to meet our son – we consider her extended family.

We were delighted to have Emily be a part of the birth of our son. As this was our first baby, we wanted someone by our side who could educate us on what to expect and would help lead us through the process. Emily was the perfect partner for this – from the moment we met her she has been calming and personable and actually made the labor and delivery process fun! Her thoughtful and well laid out meetings prior to birth were crucial in helping us feel prepared, and once I went into labor, she was at the hospital within moments of my arrival and stayed with us the entire time. Even though my husband and mother were there for support, Emily’s expertise and her presence relaxed us so that we could share in, and enjoy, the experience together. After our son arrived, she stayed to make sure that I was comfortable and everything was fine. We also took advantage of Emily’s postpartum assistance – her willingness to be flexible as we figured out the best way to have her help us was key, and when she did come help us, it was such a relief because we trust her completely with our son and reveled in the advice and guidance she was able to offer and the sympathy and support she provided as we recounted the challenges of early parenthood. Having Emily by our side through this process has been a huge relief and a true blessing. – The Wheeler Family

As soon as I met Emily I felt connected to her like an old friend who understood exactly what I needed as I was going through multiple changes in my family leading up to the birth of Quinn. Emily's bedside manner, sense of humor and warmth was matched with knowledge, professionalism and experience. Emily intuitively knew what I needed to recover from my c-section and my newborn (and three year old!) took to her immediately and naturally. We could not have done it without her! Our family and lives are better now that she is part of our story.

We had a great experience with Emily as our doula for the birth of our second child. Emily is very well-organized, personable and enthusiastic, and she made me feel comfortable from the start. We were one of her first clients, but she was so professional and knowledgeable, you wouldn't have known that she was still getting her footing! We knew a bit of what to expect going into our second natural labor and delivery, but knew that things can and do change from the first time around. Boy, were we right! Things progressed quickly and I didn't labor long at home, so Emily met us at the hospital where things were pretty intense already. Much of it is a blur, but I know she was absolutely essential to have there for me (chasing down a nurse for socks for my freezing feet, keeping me focused on my breathing when I really wanted to panic), but also for my husband who very much appreciated the support and the extra hands. It was a much faster, tougher experience than with my firstborn, but Emily helped us get through it! I highly reccommend Emily - thank you!

My husband and I hired Emily as a postpartum doula. I knew I was going to be getting a c-section due to some medical issues with my twins so I did not have the pleasure of having her beforehand. Emily is amazing. She came into our family and not only supported myself, my husband, our twin boys but kept my Mom and Dad informed on happenings because they did not live close by. I experienced some severe emotional postpartum issues after my birth and Emily was extremly resourceful and got me an appointment with someone the next day - I was so thankful. She is wonderful teacher, friend and someone I would want by my side if I were to have another little one.

Emily Newberg was a superior choice for a Doula, my wife and I were incredibly lucky to find her. Emily combines grace, a sense of humor, professional savvy and competence, compassion, and--not a factor to be overlook--nearly heroic stamina! She was an incredible asset to our family in ameliorating the roughest, most stressful, and exasperating aspects of the birth ordeal.

Although my wife & I were highly fortunate in having enjoyed a remarakably low-key and uneventful birth experience, with few if any crises, I am firmly convinced that a couple experiencing a highly difficult--if not borderline catastrophic--pregnancy would find the trials to be greatly diminshed by Emily's presence, counsel, and initiatives. In short, my wife and I strongly recommend her services.

My daughter was born in March 2017, so we started working closely with Emily starting in January to put together our birth plan and birth preferences. I honestly can't say enough great things about Emily and there's no way I would have made it through my labor and delivery without her. Obviously, when we hired her, we had no idea what my labor would be like, but I had a very long and painful labor, so having Emily there helped me persevere through it all! I don't think my husband would have been able to support me all by himself, especially given the length of time I was in labor. It was truly a team effort between my husband and Emily for each and every contraction. Also, I was mostly experiencing labor in my back and Emily came over to my house for 3 hours and worked on exercises to help get our daughter re-positioned. She completely flexed her schedule to do that and I think it helped my labor progress more quickly than it would have on its own.

Other things I love about Emily:
-Kind, gentle and completely amenable to my (changing) needs. I went in planning on a nonmedicated birth, but ended up with an epidural at hour 70 and Emily didn't bat an eye. She was supportive of my decision and what I needed. I'm also grateful for her to getting me as far as I made it without the epidural--it's not ideal to have the epidural for a long period of time, and without her, I probably would have opted for it a lot sooner.
-She never got tired and was by my side nearly the entire time. She really is so focused on the mom that she puts all of her needs aside
-She's helped many other moms through labor and that made me feel more at ease about the process
-She's such a positive, upbeat person and has helped boost my self-esteem and confidence as new mother

I would have felt pretty lost, alone, and scared without Emily's support. I will absolutely be hiring her for when we have our next child.

Emily was such an enormous part of the reason that my labor and delivery experience ended up being so positive and magical. I felt incredibly supported, informed and empowered the whole time, and she had a huge hand in all of that. I can't recommend her enough!

When I met Emily I was immediately impressed by the wealth of knowledge that she had about pregnancy and child birth. During our prenatal visits she took the time to get to know me and my partner so that she would know how to best support us through labor and delivery. She was a great listener but also a great teacher during this time.

When the big day finally arrived Emily came over to our apartment and was with me every step of the way while I labored at home (from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am, no less!). I don't think I would have survived labor at home without her. Her presence and knowledge made me feel safe and protected, despite the obvious pain of labor. I also felt secure in the fact that she would know when it was too much and it was time to go to the hospital. Once we got to the hospital, Emily stayed with us until the baby was born (which wasn't until 9:00 pm, meaning that she was my right hand girl for over 24 hours). She talked me through everything so I knew exactly what was happening and what I could expect next. She also helped make sure I was as comfortable as possible the entire time. When she left the hospital, around midnight, I was so emotional about saying goodbye because she was such an important part of my birth experience.

After our baby was born, she came over for a post-natal visit to help make sure we were settling in nicely at home. I also must have texted her 20 times in the first few weeks with a million questions about the baby. She never made me feel like I was a bother to her at all. Her wisdom, strength, compassion and generosity with time and attention have been such a gift to my new family.

We were so lucky to have had Emily’s support during the birth of our son in August 2016. Emily is warm, confident, knowledgeable and responsive. She proved to be a fabulous resource during the weeks leading up to our son’s birth, and continued to provide support during our postpartum period. Thanks to Emily, we had a positive birth experience that was both memorable and empowering.

During the final weeks of our pregnancy Emily provided my husband and I with much needed birth education. Her guidance ultimately helped me to overcome my fear of the labor and delivery process - shifting what had been an experience I anticipated with dread to one I welcomed with confidence. Emily coached us through relaxation techniques, worked with us to identify our birth preferences, and was always accessible to answer our questions while we awaited the onset of labor.

With Emily’s support, we were able to make informed decisions every step of the way - from developing our birth plan to adapting that plan during our labor and delivery. Emily proved to be a comforting force during labor’s most difficult moments. An invaluable member of our birth team, she provided the physical and emotional support I desperately needed while reassuring my husband when unplanned interventions were required.

During the postpartum period Emily frequently checked in to see how we were all adjusting. She helped us all feel truly nurtured and supported during this transition phase.

Emily’s support made all of the difference in such a momentous period of our lives. We wholeheartedly recommend her birth and postpartum services.

My birth was long and at times very difficult. Emily never appeared the least bit rattled or unsure, even at the points of greatest stress. Her calm allowed me to feel like I had a safe space to think through the hard decision I faced of whether to have an epidural after many hours of labor. Her naturally friendly and positive demeanor helps project an environment of optimism and confidence in the delivery room. Without Emily’s presence, I feel certain that my labor would not have gone as well as it did.

Emily was a superb advocate for recognizing and making sure my needs were met while working seamlessly as part of the care team. She instinctively seemed to know when to step in and when to step back, making sure I had a hot pack or fluids while not interfering with the work of the doctors and nurses. Towards the end, I was in a great deal of physical discomfort and she helped me communicate what positions I needed to push in to be the most effective. Her presence was so reassuring during a very long active labor.

Emily combines a level-headed, reassuring presence with an unbelieveable amount of empathy and emotional support. She was extremely knowledgeable and professional while also serving as a source of personal strength during my long labor. She worked incredibly hard, staying up through the night with me. I never sensed her energy flagging and she seemed continuously focused on my needs.

Outside of the hospital, Emily was organized and a fantastic communicator. She took the time to really get to know my wife and I before the birth and understand what was important to us. She was also available after the birth for follow up visits.

Having Emily as my doula was one of the best decisions I made during my pregnancy.

I first met Emily during a meeting at our house a month before my due date.  She was our back-up doula originally but since our doula was ill when I went into labor, Emily was present at my baby girl's birth.  When I first met Emily, I loved how friendly and easy-going she was with us and our 3 year old son at our home.  During my labor, Emily was amazingly in tune to my pain and was able to assist in positions she knew that would minimize and distract me during each contraction.  She was super supportive and helped advocate for my VBAC (Vaginal birth after C-section) natural birth plan, even when a provider strongly encouraged I get an epidural when this was not part of my plan from the beginning. During my transition stage of labor, Emily had offered peppermint oil to counteract the nausea. It was amazingly helpful and reduced my nausea! During the pushing stage of labor, Emily was able to help me with the correct breathing strategies to work through the contractions and assist with distraction methods.  My pregnancy and labor were both high-risk and Emily was on board in every way possible to support me emotionally and physically during my labor and during the post-partum period. She stayed with me in the hospital until we were moved to the post-partum unit, providing me comfort during suturing, assisting with breastfeeding, and providing me food (she had my favorite-peanut butter on a bagel waiting for me after birth!)  My husband and I are super thankful for Emily and the wonderful support and care she provided for our family, during and after the birth of our healthy baby girl!
