To begin this testimonial, there aren't enough words to describe how much I appreciate Kristen's support during labor and delivery. Kristen spent so much with my partner and I discussing the varoius options of a birthing plan. I had never even heard of many of the options. She taught us relaxation strategies from the Bradley Method that I later incorporated into 3 different experiences in my birthing process. I had a procedure (minor) the week before delivering my first baby and Kristen was there to support me however I needed. We then found out several days later that I was demonstrating early preeclampsia. Kristen helped to inform us of how to handle this news as I would be induced the next day (just over a week early). We had planned an all natural birth up to this point so I was quite stressed about this intervention. She met us at the hospital and began labor with me as induction started. My labored for about 26 hours, 5 of which were pushing to try and deliver this baby. She helped me to push in different positions, helped me to stay relaxed and breathe, and comforted me in anyway possible. I know everyone says this but I felt more pain than ever in my life. I... was... dying (or so I thought). All of this work to only find out that I would then be prepping for a C-section because the baby was stuck and coudn't be delivered vaginally. I became an even bigger wreck and broke down in tears. Kristen was right there with me, sharing tears! Once the baby was delivered, she ensured I was doing well before leaving the hospital and getting sleep. I felt some trauma from my birthing experience. I couldn't imagine going through all of this without her. To say she was supportive is an understatement. I feel forever in debt for what she did for me during this tough time. I hope we forever stay in touch. Thank you Kristen!
I can't imagine going through labor and delivery without Kristen. She is an AMAZING person. We had a pretty rough labor (around 60 hours). She was with us almost the entire time. She came to the house when things weren't progressing and helped with different exercises to get the baby to move and be in the correct position. It was incredibly reassuring. When we left for the hospital at 3 am after contractions finally started getting together, she was there just minutes after we arrived. There were so many decisions to make and having someone that we could talk through them with was invaluable.
The hospital staff all knew Kristen and we could tell they respected her and I think they really appreciated her just as much as we did! I don't know for how many hours she rubbed my back and feet and legs. She helped me find the best positions and advocated for me when I needed quiet or needed more explanation. She held my left leg up while my husband had the right during the 2.5 hours of pushing. The patience and strenght she showed during those 60 hours was beyond what I could have asked of anyone.
The post-partum check ins were also really important. Being able to derief the experience and ask questions and be validated in my experience was so important.
I haven't found the right way to thank Kristen yet. To have her part of this monumental experience in my life is really special. I very highly recommend Kristen to anyone looking for birth support for before, during, and after.
Kristen was amazing! I was initially very fearful and nervous about my ability to make it through delivery, and Kristin was so calming and reassuring throughout the labor & delivery process. She really helped me to feel strong and empowered in the months leading up to my daughter's birth as well as during my labor/delivery, helping me to trust my instincts and believe in myself. While I was in labor, I really relied on the coping mechanisms I learned from Kristin, so that I could stay positive and focused, and have a beautiful birth experience. She knew exactly how to help my husband feel confident and informed, so that he could be there for me the way that I needed. I don't know how we would have gotten through it without her, I'm so grateful to have had her beautiful presence and support!
After a traumatic birth/recovery experience with my first child I knew I wanted a doula/advocate for my second. Kristen was absolutely essential in my healing and she made for a much easier and enjoyable experience. I met with her and her partner three times before birth and we talked birthing plans and relaxation techniques and twice after my sons birth (she came to visit us the next day and then checked in on us a few weeks later). She answered text messages within a few minutes with any concern I would have throughout pregnancy. She was with me at the very beginning checking in to triage to the very end while I was in recovery. She worked with me the entire time I was laboring (10 hours) - holding my hand, massaging my back, letting me rest on her, guiding me into different positions I would have never considered. She was a true advocate for me the entire time. I never once felt pressured into anything - she was calm, quiet, and just there tending to my every need without having to ask. I was able to go med free until the very end (I ended up having an emergency c-section because our baby wasn't tolerating the contractions) because she helped me believe in my body and myself. My husband and I highly, highly recommend Kristen. I wouldn't do it any other way!
We had a lovely experience with Kristen as our doula. We were lucky enough to take The Bradley Method class with Kristen as our instructor, and it not only prepared us, but allowed us to form a relationship with her. This made her presence at our birth so much more helpful & special. Having Kristen there for support was such a blessing! The moment I stepped out of the car and was hit with a contraction, she was there with physical and moral support. It calmed me down, and helped me focus on the fact that I was about to meet my baby & she was there to help. I cannot say enough good about her & how helpful her being there with me was. I would highly recommend Kristen to any couple during their birth experience. Her endless support & calm demeanor was so incredible, and it really helped me to power through my labor. I feel so lucky to have used her, gaining a friend through the process.
I hired Kristen for doula services this year. She started by meeting with me for a consultation, then met with me prior to my babies birth to discuss structuring my birth plan. I ended up giving birth 5 weeks early, even before I could make our next apt to discuss all the options I chose for my birth plan. I was originally set to give birth at the Flagstaff birth center and since I had my water break early I had to have a hospital birth instead.
Kristen met me at the hospital immediately and continued to check in with me for the next 2 days. I was induced on Day 3, she came back to be with me during my induction and then again for my unexpected cesearean. Then she followed up with me multiple times. I ended up with a 7 day hospital stay and Kristen was there for me to do a quick stop and show of support. She also continued to follow up with me via text since my son was still in the hospital NICU for an additional 18 days.
As you can see, anything and everything that I anticipated for the birth of my son went the exact opposite direction. There was no natural birth outside a hospital. I ended up with medication/induction/a ceserean/ f/u complications from ceserean and a baby in the NICU.
It was great to have a doula's support during this time. At no time was Kristen invasive orinsensitive. She was supportive along the entire rollercoaster ride I had and was a huge support to my husband and older son. So without a doubt, I would recommend her to anyone.
My husband and I found Kristen easily online and met with her and her doula partner. They were both heart warming and easy to talk to right off the bat. We all discussed logistics and the plan to move forward was very clear and concise.
Kristen provided continuous emotional and (if needed ) physical support leading up to the birth. I trusted and felt that she was available emotionally, physically, and spiritually from the time I met her until well after my daughters birth. Kriten was my biggest cheerleader for my birth plan and I would hire her all over again.
There are no words to express how grateful we are to Kristen for her support before, during and after the birth of our daughter. As this was our first child, I wanted to be sure I felt mentally prepared for birth and having a doula was a big part of that preparation. Kristen met all our expectations and then some.
When we first met, her calm and caring demeanor immediately put us at ease. Within minutes of meeting Kristen we knew she would be a great fit for us. As the big day approached she was there for me to ask questions, talk about my birth plan and any fear I had and to simply offer reassurance of the journey ahead.
On the day if delivery she was there every step of the way, encouraging me, reminding me of my strength and helping me feel empowered through the entire process. She anticipated my needs so well while in labor, and she knew exactly how to help guide me through the pain and the process. Even in moments of fear, she helped keep me grounded and connected to my body so I could move through the fear. All this while still finding the perfect balance to allow both my husband and my mother to be a big part of the support system and birthing process.
After our daughter arrived she stayed to help us acclimate, she checked in on us periodically of the next few weeks and even came to our home to be sure I was adjust to my new role as Mom.
We honestly look back on the entire birth experience as one of tremendous joy and with a deep sense of fulfillment. I know that this may not have been possible without Kristen's help and support along the way.
After taking Kristen's class on natural childbirth, we decided to hire her as our doula. We are eternally grateful to have crossed paths with her and to have had her be a part of our daughter's birth. She is truly an expert in this area. Her knowledge and ability to remain calm and consistent helped us through our homebirth tremendously. She demonstrated a high degree of warmth and empathy throughout the entire process, while continuing to motivate and encourage us as we moved through the labor and delivery process. She seemed able to sense our needs before we could even voice them. Her follow up care was also an unexpected surprise. She seemed genuinely interested in how we were doing post-partum, and provided us with ongoing advice and support as we transitioned from "expecting" to "new parenthood." Our family is forever indebted to Kristen for providing us with education about the birthing process, and then supporting us as we took part in it. We will always have a soft spot for her in our hearts and will never forget the very important role she played in helping us bring our daughter into the world; naturally and at home, just like we had planned.
I've heard many mothers and their partners say "We couldn't have done it without our doula," which I took as a sweet sentiment or a statement of thanks. I expected having a doula would ease some discomfort and make the contractions more bearable (whatever that means) and that she could be a relief for my husband whose body tires quickly. I expected Kristen to be a motherly source of affection and gentle confidence. I pictured her rubbing my shoulders and hips and whispering words of encouragement and keeping my energy up for a long labor. When my labor began, I wasn't expecting the whirlwind that it turned out to be. I wasn't expecting a FAST and turbulent labor or a 3 hour long transition. I wasn't expecting that I would abandon all desire and drive for a natural birth. Kristen kept me grounded through the most intense experience and hardest work of my life. She kept trying new techniques every few minutes, it seemed. She never tired. I know she looks tiny and seems dainty, but this woman exuded strength and stamina. She never seemed frantic or overwhelmed which helped minimize those feelings for my husband and me. She never lost confidence in me, even when I lost confidence in myself. She never let me give up. She reminded me to listen to my inner wisdom and follow my instincts. While I know she worked so hard to give me physical comfort and help me cope with the extreme sensations in my body, what I remember and value the most now were her strong words of encouragement, her unwillingness to let the intensity knock us down, and the way she was there for my husband who was very nervous and whose heart was breaking for me at times. She helped me have the birth I wanted. Without her help (which sounds like a really lame word for the amount of work she did), my birth story would be very different indeed. We could not have done it without Kristen.
Kristen was not only our doula but also Bradley Method Chidbirth class instructor. Even though this was our second birth, we learned so much from her prior to the birth that we felt much more comfortable and calm right from the beginning. She provided great assistance with managing pain through massage, hot/cold packs, and suggesting different positions. Kristen is calm and caring, and listened to our desires and expectations and made sure they were all granted when it came time. Without her there, I'm not sure I would have been strong enough to have an unmedicated birth but she helped me stay confident that I could do it. I had some complications after the birth that required me to have surgery and she stayed to help out my husband and I get through that stressful experience. I strongly recommend Kristen to anyone wanting a natural birth in our out of the hospital. She genuinely cares about her clients and wants every woman to have a good birth experience!
We wanted a humanized birth without artificial inducers or c-secton and we felt that with all the stress of labor we were not going to be able to achieve it. Also we are non-native speakers and were also afraid that with all the confusion of the moment we were not going to be able to correctly communicate with the nurses and doctors. Kristen help us to deal with our fears before and during our child's birth.
Before labor, Kristen gave us advice on what to ask the doctor during our prenatal visits, and talk us about all the little details that would help us to be comfortable during labor.
During the long 18 hours of labor, she was an invaluable emotional and physical support. She brought hot pads for relieving pain during contractions, she was there reminding us to walk, to take deep breaths, and even to eat. She was there giving us the support that we needed to reach that humanized birth that we aimed.
Kristen is a wonderful person and a great Doula.
We are so grateful to Kristen for helping us bring our baby girl into the world. Kristen was amazing in her dedication and ability to anticipate our needs. We planned a home birth but ended up in the hospital and having Kristen with us made all the difference in the world. Her presence is calm, reassuring, and steady. She had great suggestions and ideas during tough moments, and she looked out for both of us, keeping us fed and supporting us through nearly 40 hours of labor (which happened to be over Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning). Massaging my feet and legs, helping me focus, allowing my husband to get some much needed rest, and offering every sort of physical, mental, and emotional support- Kristen's presence was absolutely invaluable.
