When I reached out to DoulaLove, I wasn’t totally sure I’d find the right fit- I was happy to deliver in a hospital, was open to an epidural, and had no interest in being referred to as “Mama” by another adult or in being told birth would be a spiritual experience. But turns out, the decision to have a doula and being matched with Rachel was a fantastic decision. Rachel was there throughout pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum and offered consistently warm, funny, and practical support. It felt like having an extremely knowledgeable friend on my team to advocate for my needs during an exciting but stressful time. Rachel is intelligent and direct and so responsive. Should we have another child, I would absolutely want Rachel there with us again!
Rachel is truly amazing! I was in labor 36 hours with my first and didn't feel like I was supported or heard by the doctors. So, with number 2 I knew I wanted more help.
From my first meeting with Rachel I knew she was the doula for me. Her smile, great laugh and laid back nature is just what I knew I needed. She made me feel so comfortable every time we met. My husband stayed in the background not understanding why I needed her. But I knew WE would need her.
I had a planned induction at 39 weeks and ended up only being in labor for 12 hours on Labor Day. Rachel was there the entire time which was amazing. She was that voiced I needed when I told the nurses and first set of doctors that I didn't want to be seen by male doctors. She watched stupid movies and even played card games with us in the early stages of labor.
When it came time for actual hard contractions she was there with great suggestions bc my brain was just saying make the pain go away. As much as my husband thought I was crazy, he definitley started to understand why it was so good to have her there. When I was ready for my epidural she was fine with it and told me it was okay, all of the 30 minutes of relief I got from it.
During pushing she made it so much easier on me. She remembered I wanted to be told when to push and for how long. From pushing for what felt like hours with my first; I felt like I was in control and only pushed as much as I needed with my second. And that was because she was there to tell me what was happening and what I needed to do.
After Rosemary was born she stayed to make sure we were comfortable and I felt good about breastfeeding. In the end my husband thank her so much and I feel like be finally understood why WE needed her there.
I wish she would have been there to help with my first and I whole heartedly recommend her to anyone having baby. She is just WONDERFUL!
Rachel is the every woman’s doula. Not a lot of woo but a whole lot of heart. Rachel is extremely skilled in supporting people through the journey of labor and with evidence based information, patience, respect for individual processes and humor. Rachel cant realign your chackras with crystals but she can help you advocate for yourself, support your partner in hip squeezes and be a witness to your journey to this new world. Rachel is kind, nerdy, curious and passionate about empowered birth. She will help you define your ideal birth and can also help you distil what is sacred if plans need to change. Rachel is the doula who cares for you like a sister (the sister we all wish we had).
Rachel was THE BEST! Being a first time mom, i had no idea what to expect, or even the right questions to ask. Rachel immediatly took the time to first understand our family dynamic, which was greatly appreciated. We were able to meet pre-birth multiple times and discuss wants/needs/expectations/nursery check etc. She was present and incredibly successful throughout the birth, and for post-partum care as well. My husband and I are so grateful that we made the decision to doula, and even MORE GRATEFUL we had Rachel. Highly recommend!!
I had just found out that my mom might not be available for the birth of our daughter when my husband and I started looking for a doula. We were looking for someone with experience who could help us through decisions that come up during labor and delivery. When we met Rachel, we felt confident that she was the right fit for us. She is very knowledgeable and has great resources for those who want to do their own homework. She supported all of my choices – even when I changed my mind at the last minute. I felt completely comfortable asking questions and sharing my concerns during the entire process. She is easy going and straightforward. We had many laughs throughout the pregnancy and labor – even when I arrived at the hospital covered in my own vomit, 8cm dilated!
I cannot say enough great things about having Rachel as my doula for the pregnancy and birth of my second child. Throughout the whole process, she remained upbeat, caring and accessible. I never hesitated to reach out to her with questions or concerns and she responded very quickly at all hours of the day. I wound up having a scheduled induction. She met us at the hospital for check-in and stayed until I was all settled in for the night. Then she was back early the next morning when the pitocin started. For the next several hours she provided amazing support, humor, massage and coaxed me through a varieyty of positions. And my husband was able to rest a bit too with her there. I would hire her all over again in a second. I was so glad that we was there for the birth of our child.
Before my partner and I met Rachel Emery, we little idea how essential doulas could be to the birthing experience but after seeing Rachel work her skillfully tender magic with Karen during the delivery of our daughter Vivienne I can't even imagine surviving it without her! Rachel's attentiveness, sensitivity and intrinsic knowledge made us feel like we had rented a best friend or trusted relative for our most important day. She has definitely made us both believers in the doula artform and I would recommend her services to anyone who is planning on having a child!
Rachel was an amazing part of our birthing team and great resource for us before, during, and after our son’s arrival. We appreciated her counsel to help us prepare for our new life as parents. When our pregnancy didn’t go as planned, she was there with support. Rachel was very accommodating to our needs and stepped up with postpartum doula care after our cesarean delivery. Thanks, Rachel, for being a part of this momentous event!
We decided to hire a doula for the birth of our second child after the first birth was a little "challenging." We knew it could have gone better with a little help and better preparation. We have busy schedules and a toddler that we chase after, so hiring a doula was going to be a perfect fit, and Rachel was that person for us! She was very easy to talk to and get to know. She got to know us and all the reasons we wanted to have her there. All our concerns were met, answered, explained away, or acknowleged and supported. She came to our home for a couple consultations after we hired her. She offered so many wonderful resources to help us prepare, but in a condenced format that we actually used and learned from. The addtional classes through Doula Love were really benefitial, too.
When the day of the birth (rather, evening through middle of the night) came, she was there for us texting, and ready at the hospital. Her support for my husband and I was exactly what we needed. The birth of our son was without fear, without medication, and without drama or trauma. Though exhausted from being up around the clock, everyone on our "birth team" was excited and present in mind through the delivery- it was a great experience!
Thank you, Rachel! You were steady as a rock, and a gentle guide/hand holder for Steve and I. We will remember this birth so fondly because of all you did to help us prepare and labor in such a relaxed way.
It was wonderful working with a doula as easy-going and talented as Rachel. It was a pleasure getting to know her and she was indispensible through what ended up being a very trying delivery. She arrived promptly in the middle of the night when my water broke and contractions came on like a freight train. She immediately put me at ease with her chipper, helpful attitude. She was so encouraging, keeping me relaxed and supoorting me through 12 hours of labor and 2.5 hours of pushing. When it became clear that my baby was stuck and would require an emergency cesarean, Rachel helped to keep me calm, and on the other side of surgery, she immediately came to meet us in the recovery room to check in and debrief. Rachel's presence and assistance perfectly complemented my husband's participation in this most important event of our lives and I would recommend her whole-heartedly to do the same for anyone lucky enough to work with her. Thank you so much, Rachel!!
I am so glad that my midwife suggested hiring a doula. I wasn't sure that we would need one, but I quickly changed my mind after meeting Rachel and understanding more about what a doula means for your birth experience. I had an "eventful" birth, and was glad Rachel was there with encouraging words and an arm to grab on to. I am pretty sure none of the hospital staff would have made me feel as comfortable as she did. She fit in with our personalities and is someone we would hire again if we decide to have a second baby. She has a great personality and really made us feel comfortable from the beginning.
Rachel was an awesome birth doula for the delivery of baby Louis, our first kiddo.
While we hired her to support us through the unknowns of labor and delivery, Rachel's guidance before and after Lou arrived was perhaps what we ended up valuing the most. We appreciated her help thinking through a birth plan -- she was sensitive to our desire to not have things too planned out, but gently coached us to consider some of the circumstances we were likely to encounter and to think about how we would ideally want things to go. Rachel was also a great resource when it came to postpartum questions around breastfeeding/pumping, sleeping and other new-baby things.
Beside her tactical help, Rachel was just a really fun person to have over for visits and was a great energy in the delivery room, providing both mom and dad with a reassuring and positive partner in labor. When it came to the whole process of welcoming our little boy into the world, we were so grateful to have Rachel by our side!

We were referred to Doula Love through our Childbirth preparation classes at Providence and we ended up only interviewing Rachel because from our first meeting we felt very at ease with her. Even our dog liked Rachel's calm, warm personality and we felt like she really understood who we are and what kind of experience we wanted to have with our first baby. I appreciated how thoroughly she prepared us and her materials were all very helpful to have on hand before our delivery and after. When I went into labor Rachel was already at a delivery at the same hospital but assured me we would be well taken care of. She set us up with Jenna as a backup and we met her at the hospital. She was also a lovely, supportive presence, especially when we found out I was being admitted with high blood pressure and placed on an IV. Rachel's other delivery went really fast so she was able to take over from Jenna after maybe an hour which made me feel so relieved. We were both so impressed? with her stamina as she had been working for so many hours already but easily jumped in and started helping right away. She made sure my husband was drinking water, reminded him to take a break when he looked tired, helped us get me into the tub, gave us privacy when we needed it (without having to ask) and advocated for me when I needed it. She would help me slow down my breathing when I needed it and held my hand for what must have been hours while I labored. She also helped me process the decision to get pain medication and an epidural and was supportive with all of our decisions. When it came time to deliver my baby she was right there at my side cheering with encouraging words and was the one to take an amazing photo of us with our baby, moments after she was born. She even had? tears in her eyes. She will hold a special place in my heart for her help in making my delivery as supportive and calm as possible.
We cannot say enough good things about Rachel. Not only did she help make my husband and I both feel more prepared and comfortable going into the delivery room, but she also had such a calming presence throughout our entire labor process. It seriously felt just like we had another close friend/family member with us at the hospital, except that she also had a wealth of knowledge to share and was able to confidently coach us through every intense situation that popped up along the way. I can truly say that there's no way the birth of our beautiful daughter would've gone so smoothly if we didn't have Rachel there with us as our doula. She is kind, thoughtful (she even made a sweet little bib for our new babe!) and professional, and we can happily attest that she would be an excellent choice for anyone looking for additional support before, during and after birth.
Rachel was very helpful and informative throughout the whole process. She made it especially easy to discuss the fears my husband and I were worried about. Rachel was very warm and genuine in her approach to this process. She was extremely knowledgeable and hands on when it came to various laboring positions and breathing techniques. Her fun loving nature made it easy to bond over the course of our time together. I would recommend Rachel to anyone who is looking for a fun but serious Doula.
