The fee I choose to charge is on a sliding scale, based on each client's financial situation. It basically covers my expenses, such as auto, insurance, birth accessories, brochures, etc. I always provide at least one meal and snacks postpartum. My work as a doula is my passion. Please contact me and we can discuss the fee. I believe that every woman deserves to have a doula regardless of her ability to pay.

Judy has assisted me in the births of both of my children, born 4 years apart. My daughter was born in 2013, and was nearly born at home due to a fast labor. Had it not been for Judy’s confidence and calming guidance we never would have made it to the delivery room. Judy coached me every step of the way, advocated for me in the delivery room, captured some photos and even a video of her first cries- all while helping hold my leg to push! After she was born she was taken to the NICU in another town. Judy helped me get to and from the NICU, kept me fed and resting and even helped wash my pump. Once my daughter came home she helped with housework and holding her so I could shower or eat.
My son was born in 2017 and Judy was there all throughout my pregnancy to help watch my older child for important appointments and help me remember what questions to ask the doctors (I was at a different practice). Then when my labor started she wasted no time coming to my home in case my labor was fast again. This time we made it to the hospital in plenty of time, but not too early either. In the middle of the night she helped me labor naturally without any medications. I was experiencing back labor but it was bearable because she knew exactly where and how to apply pressure to my back during contractions. Then during pushing she helped relax my muscles between contractions and helped get my husband into a supportive position behind me. Once my sunny side up son was born she reminded the nurses of my desire not to weigh or bathe him immediately and I enjoyed the first hour with him on my chest. Once he came home she again helped around my house, allowing me to rest and bond with my new baby.
I am eternally grateful to her for all her help and I cannot imagine giving birth without her. She kept me calm in situations that would have likely caused me to panic or give up otherwise. If I ever have another child she will definitely be my doula again.
Judith Knowles assisted me at the birth of my daughter. She was very kind and patient and was at the hospital for days and nights with me waiting for the birth. She was very knowlegable and was able to give me advice on what to ask the medical practioners for regarding my treatment. She acted like a friend and advocate, and I was so thankful to have her there with me.
I think a lot of what makes Judy such a great doula is how much she clearly loves doing it! She puts her whole heart and energy into helping couples have the best birth experience they can have, whatever their circumstances. In our case, she was there from early in my pregnancy providing guidance, encouragement and information. When I went into labor, she got to us as soon as she could and remained with us for what turned out to be over 40 hours of labor, culminating in an emergency c-section - and thankfully, our beautiful, healthy baby! It was certainly not the birth experience we had envisioned, but it was what our baby needed. When concerns and complications arose and we ended up needing a number of unexpected interventions, Judy was there to help us be strong and make informed decisions at every turn. Never underestimate the value of such an advocate when you are focused on your labor and both you and your partner are sleep-deprived and exhausted! You just never know what will happen during labor and delivery, even with a normal pregnancy, and a supportive, knowledgeable doula can be an incredible resource. We truly appreciate all that Judy has done for us, and I would highly recommend making her a part of your birth experience!
My labor started slow at first on a Sunday morning in June 2013. When I described my condition, Judy decided to come to my place just in case. I was soaking in a bath while my husband took a rest when she arrived. She insisted I get out and move around. As soon as I got up I started to panic because my contractions became unbearable. Judy kept me calm, reminding me of ways to relax, like low moaning and swaying. She asked about what I was feeling and determined I might be close to pushing. She woke my husband and called my OB. Judy spoke to the OB and they agreed to get to the hospital ASAP. With help I was able to get dressed, downstairs and into my car. She even kept my music close to help me focus. In the car I felt like I needed to push. Judy reminded me to breathe in short puffs to avoid pushing and spoke soothingly to calm me down. Once at the hospital my OB put me in a wheelchair and ran with Judy following closely. Judy reminded the delivery team of my birthplan requests and insisted, even when they protested. She took photos and videos for me even while holding one of my legs for delivery. Daria was born quickly and I cherish the video of her first cries and her daddy cutting the cord. I love how she kept careful notes of the all details, otherwise I might not have remembered anything later. If not for her expertise and guidance I’m sure my daughter would have been born at home.
Judy helped me postpartum too. Daria was small and taken to a NICU in another town. I needed a lot of help getting to and from the NICU as I was in pain from delivery. She helped drive, kept me fed, and washed my pump parts. Once Daria came home her daddy had to go back to work, so I was alone. Judy came and helped with things such as holding Daria, laundry, dishes, meals, even cleaning toilets! I didn’t have any feeding issues, but I think that was because of her guidance and support. I can’t imagine going though this whole process without her.
Judy was kind, gentle and compassionate as well as understanding of our unique situation. She respected our time and privacy but also supported us by bringing over food and thoughtful gifts for our daughters brother. During my surgery Judy was there to assist my husband with anything he might have needed. I highly recommend Judy to others in need of doula support.
Words cannot express how grateful my husband and I feel to have had Judy by our sides during the birth of our daughter Gemma Grace this past August. My labor was over 30 hours long and Judy helped us through every painstaking moment of the process. From taking the time to get to know us and our family to taking a video of our baby's first cry, Judy went out of her way to make our birth experience peaceful and beautiful. The knowledge and wisdom she shared with my husband and me is invaluable and certainly helped us to make informed decisions for us and our baby, while allowing us to have a truly personal pregnancy, birth experience, and post-partum period. From the moment we met Judy during my pregnancy she was a constant source of warmth, strength, experience, knowledge, and positivity. I could not have asked for a better source of support during my pregnancy, labor, and postpartum period. Judy was one of the first people to meet and hold our precious daughter and we feel truly honored that she was willing to be a part of the most special day of our lives.
