First off, let me explain how I know Kathryn. We met as co-workers at a children's behavioral hospital. It takes a VERY special person to work with physically, emotionally, and behaviorally challenged children; Kathryn excelled in her therapeutic relationships with the children she treated. I always deeply admired her professional skills and personal demeanor/rapport with the patients, so this is one of the main reasons I chose her to be my doula when I discovered that I was pregnant with my first child.
Kathryn was literally there for me as my doula from Day One. She was the first person I felt compelled to reveal my pregnancy to, even before my husband or my mother. I can't explain it other than to say I just knew I was making the correct choice. Kathryn continued to support me throughout my entire pregnancy, to the day I delivered, and even now that my son is a month old. She has been an invaluable resource for information, emotional support, and advocacy. I would have had a very different and, I believe, much less satisfying birth experience without Kathryn as my doula. I completed a natural, unmedicated birth in 14 hours, and she was there for me every step of the way.
I would recommend Kathryn as a doula to any of my friends or family, without hesitation. Also, I plan to have a second child, and will absolutely choose Kathryn again as my doula. She has become so much more than a doula to me, to my family, and my son; she is truly a gifted woman.
