We hired Theresa for my third birth in hopes of having a natural birth. She was a great support for myself and my husband. With her help, I was able to deliver naturally. She has a very calm, relaxed demeanor which is an excellent quality in a doula. She was very accessible while I labored at home and arrived promptly to the delivery. Her hands on techniques, massage and scented oils were very helpful.

I personally loved having Theresa as my doula. This was my 1st baby and she never made me feel like I was asking too many, or dumb questions. I personally liked that she was closer to my age as I felt like I had a friend helping me, instead of feeling like I was being coached by my mother in law Haha! My own mom is deceased so it was nice to have support, other than my husband. It was one of the reasons we had a doula! She was a great support for me, but my husband as well. They tagged teamed to give each other reprieve, and he had some company when I was resting or needed to be alone.

Also Theresa, in my opinion, is truly open to helping you have what kind of birth you want. I think that is one of the most important things, especially if you're a 1st time mom. I think all of us have an idea of how we want our birth to go, and have different ideas for our children. Some professionals will try to sway to what they believe is best, but Theresa backs your ideas and assists with creating a birth experience that you want. I am an RN, so while I wanted a natural birth, it was important to me to give birth in a hospital. Theresa totally backed it. But when I spoke to other doulas they were "supportive" but would "remind" me that my chances of a c-section were greatly increased and all the other "horrors" of hospital births. With Theresa's help I was able to make it through a 22 hour labor, all natural, at a hospital. It is possible! The nurses and doctors do not force drugs like many people believe. There was a point where they suggested pitocin as i was stuck at 5cm for hours, but Theresa helped my hubby advocate for me that that was not what I wanted, and they backed off the idea no problem. Theresa helped me with relaxation and after some time in the whirlpool I advanced to 9! I loved my birth and was happy to be at a hospital. So whatever you may want for your birth, whether it be hospital or home, drugs or no drugs, Theresa will support you 100%.
