I cannot tell you what a God-send Lauren was! I had a very long and difficult labor and she was with us through every step of it. When we first met her, we were struck by how gentile and calming just her presence was. In building our birth plan, she did a great job of respecting our wishes but challenging us to learn more. She has an amazing wealth of knowledge and excellent resource to call on when needed. And she worked so well with our birth team. We were looking for someone who took a natural approach but did want to go too "out there" (if you know what I mean), and Lauren was a perfect balance of holistic and evidenced based care.
We planned on going through the majority of the labor at home and then going to the Kaiser Oakland for the delivery. We had two meeting with her before the delivery to go over our birth plan and to discuss different topics around birth, and what to expect. She also gave us excellent evidence based sources to do further research in areas that we weren't so sure about. I'm a nurse and I specialized in L&D during nursing school, I have attended a number of deliveries, and I worked in a prenatal clinic. So I do know abit about the birthing process, and I've seen enough to appreciate that every labor is different and to be flexible with my expectations. I knew that once labor started that all my plans would probably go out the window, so I wanted someone I could trust to guide and support me when the time came. I am so glade we had Lauren by our side. I was not prepared for prodromal AND back labor that would last for days and would bring me to the breaking point. She was such a great support for my husband as well and helping him to be a part of the birth and make it special for him.
With Lauren to support and guild us, we managed to have a natural birth in the hospital. This could have easily been the most traumatic experience of our lives, but with Lauren's help, it became the most amazing!
My husband and I don’t have family in the area, so we wanted a doula. We figured it would be nice to have someone who had experience with laboring women and a person there just for us. Within five minutes of meeting Lauren, we both knew we wanted her as our doula.
She was amazing during my labor. She knew what I wanted before I did (so many ice chips!) and was able to ask what I needed, wordlessly a lot of the time.
When our son ended up unexpectedly having to go to the NICU, we were even more glad Lauren was there. My husband knew I was in safe hands while he went up with the baby.
To sum everything up in an eBay-style review: A+++ would hire again!!
Lauren was absolutely the best doula ever! During pre-labor meetings, she was knowledgeable, kind, and informative, but never pushy. It was obvious that Lauren's desire was to support us in accordance with our goals for the birth. She helped us formulate a birth plan by asking questions and providing evidence-based resources for us to consult and talk about.
During labor, Lauren was nothing short of a god-send. My husband and I labored for awhile on our own, and we were doing OK. But, when Lauren arrived, it was like being upgraded from Coach to First Class. She immediately went into action by making me drink an electrolyte mix she brought, put me in different positions to try and help me get more comfortable, and made sure my heating pads were always hot and replenished. When (as I think always happens), aspects of my birth plan went out the window, Lauren helped us make decisions by reminding us of our options and being flexible, supportive, and encouraging. She was a calm, strong presence, and I am so grateful she was there with us when we welcomed our little guy. Since his birth, we have recommended Lauren to all our pregnant friends without hesitation.
Lauren was such a wonderful resource during my second pregnancy. She was helpful, responsive, knowledgeable, and so dependable (I wish I'd known her durian gym first pregnancy!). She delivered my placenta pills, tincture, and cord keepsake on time. In fact, she was very particular about how the cord keepsake came out and insisted that she try to improve on the final product (even though it seemed fine to me!), and jumped through some new hoops. It turned out great but I was more impressed with the time and care she put into--and that she was willing to trek out to me a second time to make everything more than all right! Lauren's definitely the kind of doula you can count on and want by your side during such an important time in your life.
Choosing Lauren as our doula was the best decision! My husband and I are first time parents and east coast transplants and so were looking for some extra support leading up to the birth of our new baby. Lauren surpassed all expectations we had with her incredibly supportive, authentic, and caring guidance. We hit a stumbling block in our overall healthy pregnancy when we found out at week 36 that our baby was breech. Without hesitation, Lauren was by my side, supporting me in the hospital as a doctor performed a successful version which flipped our baby! During our two prenatal sessions, Lauren showed wonderful attention and presence. She listens carefully, works to understand your relationship and values, and caters her support to best serve you. This was best demonstrated during birth when Lauren partnered with my husband in a way which honored his quieter personality. Lauren was also very respectful and collaborative with the nursing staff. She truly respects your process as you labor and always helps frame things in a positive light! We love Lauren!
