Hiring Colleen as my postpartum doula after my second was born was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made — so much so that I made sure she blocked her calendar for my third.

I truly think of her as an angel. She brings the calmest, most soothing presence into your home and is intuitively helpful in exactly the ways a new mom needs. Her whole philosophy is about supporting the mother so she can care for her baby — and that care shows up in the most meaningful, practical ways during those precious newborn days.

I recommend her to everyone I can, and I always share just a few of the ways she supported our family:

1. We didn’t find out the baby’s sex either time, so she sorted through all our baby clothes, organized the nursery, packed away outgrown items into neatly labeled bins, and even reorganized storage in our basement. She also helped organize our older kids’ clothes — an unbelievable gift.

2. She cooked dinners, grocery shopped, and made freezer meals for both me and the kids. Her energy balls are legendary in our house.

3. She drew me baths with sitz soak tea and candles, and lovingly held the baby while I rested.

4. She was also a friend — someone I could share my postpartum thoughts and feelings with, someone I felt completely safe and cared for. That emotional support may have been the greatest gift of all.
