I found Charity on Doula Match around 24 weeks along. We were not originally planning on hiring a doula, but after meeting with Charity I saw how knowledgable and helpful she was and knew her services would be a great asset to us. Charity met with us several times throughout our pregnancy and taught us different things about what was currently happening and what we could expect in the weeks to come. Charity reccomended a Birth Boot Camp class in our area, and attended on the day we discussed labor to practice positions and comfort measures with us.

As a first time mom, I had lots of questions. Charity made it clear that she was always available and when she answered our questions, she always provided evidence based materials to back up her response. At 33 weeks, the pregnancy turned high risk. Charity helped us better understand the diagnosis and how this might affect our birth. I deeply wanted an all natural birth, but as the pregnancy progressed, it became apparent that it might not be possible. Charity helped me stay calm, and together we made a back up birth plan for induction. During our induced labor, Charity helped me stay focused and helped my husband better support me. She made made low sounds through every contraction to help remind me to breathe and stay loose, this was very helpful. It also gave me a very comforted feeling during the contraction as it reassured me that I was supported and I wasn't alone.

Unfortunately, the induction failed and we had to make the decision to move to a c-section due to fetal distress. Charity supported us during this extreemly scary time. She kept me focused during the epidural and gave me affirmations when I was quite frankly freaking out about going into surgery.

One more bonus: She takes great pictures! We cherish her documentation of our birth. We couldn't have asked for a better experience!

I attended a "Meet the Doulas" event at the local bookstore during my first trimester and that's where I was introduced to Charity and another doula in town.  I was already in favor of hiring a doula, but appreciated learning more of the specifics of their role.  Charity and I met three times prior to labor and delivery to discuss my birth plan and generally review the signs and stages of labor so that I knew what to expect.  She loaned a book to me that provided a simple overview of pregnancy/giving birth, and provided other educational materials, as well.  She was responsible about following up with me and we were able to easily schedule our meetings at convenient times.  We could have met at a neutral location (e.g. coffee shop), but I chose to have her over to my house.

I did not have a good sense of whether her fee was reasonable, but elected to sign a contract that also included photography of the labor/delivery.  Now that I've given birth, I can say without a doubt that Charity's services were worth every penny!  She was with me from at least 6 AM until quite some time after my daughter was born around 10 PM that night.  She was available the night before when my water broke and she checked in with me throughout the night to be sure I didn't need her help earlier.  It was most critical to have her support during contractions.  I appreciated that there was someone in the room dedicated to my well-being and care who did not have to attend to other patients or worry about the baby.  Charity helped me change positions, kept me company walking the halls, fed me ice chips, held my hand, rubbed my back, and generally served as a cheerleader and calming voice.

I did not have a very detailed birth plan or vision for how we would handle contractions, etc.  But, we worked well together in the moment and I had a very positive experience, as a result.  I highly recommend Charity.

Charity was fantastic. We struggled to find a doula that fit our personal needs and budget, but when we connected with Charity, we knew she was going to be a great fit. She was easy to talk to knowledgeable and of course, supportive. She was great at offering advice on staying comfortable through the end of my pregnancy and was available whenever I needed her. She was in constant contact with me in the weeks leading up to our birth.

When it came to the big day, she was ready to go as soon as I was.she arrived bright and early, and was sooo sweet with our family and my older daughter (2yo) even at 6 am! We were so blessed with her photography skills! She took tons of pictures, and yet never felt intrusive. She was great at letting us know when it was time to head to the hospital. And I'm so glad she was, because our little girl arrived in under an hour after we arrived at the hospital!  She helped support me physically and was a great, positive, reassuring presence. She definitely made a positive impact on this birth. Even my mom (who didn't know why we would need a doula) was thankful for her to be there!

Even after having two successful, natural births, I think I will have a doula for any future births as well. I am so glad we found such a gentle, calming and supportive doula in Charity. I will forever cherish all the photos she took of our amazing second birth!

I would highly recommend Charity as a doula!  I was a mom headed into my third pregnancy and I had used a different doula in another town with my past two pregnancies, and knew how valuable a doula could be for my birth experience.  Charity was such a delight to work with!  What I appreciated most about her was her was her respect and high value she placed on meeting my needs and doing what I wanted.  She met with me a couple of time before my birth to make sure she thoroughly understood my goals and desires for my birth.  She was educated and informative and was a calming influence for me.  My birth did not go as planned (as they never do!) and I ended up requesting an epidural after thinking I would want a drug free birth experience.  I was nervous to tell Charity what I had decided (as she wasn't there yet when I made that decision - which was my fault for not bringing her in sooner!) But Charity was so great and understaning!  She continued to be by my side and help encourage me throughout the rest of my labor and delivery.  She took precious pictures for us and checked back in on us the next day, and even two weeks later.  If you are looking for a doula who will be professional, knowledgable, calm, flexible, encouraging, as well as an advocate for you, then Charity is the right gal for you!  I would use her again if the need arose!
