Holly was great throughout the end of my pregnancy and during labour. During the prenatal visits she had prepared us to the possible interventions that could happen so we felt more confident when we had to make quick important decisions.
Before I met her I was worried that having someone else present at the birth would take away from my partner's experience and presence, but instead I found that she helped him feel more prepared. He felt more confident in what he was doing, which made me feel stronger. Her calm presence during labor also helped me focus and remember how strong I was.
I am writing this as my 2 week old daughter is asleep on my chest. The perfect daughter that Holly did so much to help us bring into this world. Words do not adequately explain how much having, not simply a doula, but Holly in particular, helped our family through the prenatal, birth, and postnatal process. Holly's calming demeanour and unassuming knowledge was such a help, not just for me but for my husband, Trevor, as well. He cannot say enough how valuable having Holly's seemingly neverending source of comfort was while I was in labour. Holly also helped me accomplish all my birth goals and was uncanny in remembering and implementing the smallest details of what helped me through labour. We cannot recommend Holly enough!
There probably aren't enough words to describe how amazing Holly was to have at both of my births. At the beginning of my first pregnancy I wasn't considering a doula because I thought my husband I and were plenty prepared and he was ready to be the perfect labor and delivery coach! (He did do amazing but he needed some doula love as well...more on that soon!)
I don't remember what it was that made me change my mind but I am SO thankful I did. With my first baby, I was planning a home birth and was truly so excited for the experience, although I knew it would be the hardest thing I've ever done! Unfortunately things didn't go as planned and I needed to drive 40 minutes to a hospital to meet my midwife....while in labor! I won't go into details but Holly stuck by our side for THREE WHOLE DAYS. What an angel. Not only did she help me see the light at the end of the tunnel when I was so deep in labor land, she was exactly what my husband and mom needed for support too. So when I found out I was pregnant a year after my son was born, you better believe Holly was the first person I told! I had to make sure she'd be there!! Once again, she was just what my husband and I needed for support....emotional and physical! Although I've said it many times, thank you Holly for becoming a part of our family by providing us unwavering support in some of our most important and special moments in life! If you are lucky enough to have Holly as your doula, I am certain you will feel the same way we feel about her. We love you Holly!
Holly is a skilled woman, who is very good at her job. She is knowledgeable, supportive + compassionate. My first 2 children I did not have a doula, and I felt the experiences were on the traumatic side. My 3rd son, we hired Holly and it was the best decision. It was imperative to have her there. She was amazing. I highly recommend anything Holly offers.
Holly is a very skilled birth doula of 15 years whom I highly recommend. We were able to pay her in stress free payments and work out a rate that was good for both parties.
She is educated, supportive and passionate in her work. She was available to answer all my anxious texts leading up to our 2nd birth which helped keep my mind at ease. She was very respectful of my birth plan and sensitive to our families needs. Her gentle and confident presence was such a blessings during the birth, and so were her strong hip squeezes!
Not only was she a total calming presence during the birth, but after she quickly cleaned up our kitchen and birth space so we could fully enjoy the first day with baby.
Holly is definately my #1 choice for a doula in the Shuswap.
I knew from the moment I met Holly that I wanted her to be there at the birth of our first child. Hubby didn't need any convincing either. She was kind, soft spoken, open and informative. We felt comfortable with her immediately. She stayed in contact throughout my pregnancy, and was always available to answer my questions. She took care to go over my birth plan and prepare me in all ways possible. The morning my water broke, I sent her a text at 4:50am and she got back to me immediately. Holly travelled from Salmon Arm to Kamloops to be with us and support us through labour and birth.
She was calm, reassuring and a very peaceful presence; guiding different birthing positions to help with positioning baby correctly and different breathing and vocalization techniques to help with pain, and with wanting to push when I was still at home, though we wanted a hospital birth, and she made the call when it was time to pack up and head in to the hospital. She was amazing and never left my side, and I felt so good knowing that she was there, and knew what was happening and how to handle everything. She was an amazing support, and stayed hours after my son was born. She stayed in contact through the few days we had to spend at the hospital, and I was so happy to see her at the post-partum home visit. I was also very happy to have had her herbal concoction for the peri-pads!
My labour and birth went exactly according to plan, and I believe her reassurance, her support and knowledge had so much to do with that. I will never forget when I said "I can't do this!" and she responded so confidently "You ARE doing this."
I would highly recommend Holly Malashewsky to any woman, or couple, looking into doula services. She was beyond amazing, and I am incredibly thankful, as is my husband, that she was there for us. We will definitely be seeking her services again when it's time for Baby #2.
Our family had the wonderful privilege of working with Holly for the birth of our second baby in 2014.
It was my goal to have a natural birth as my first born was an unexpected c-section delivery.
I heard about Holly in my community and everyone seemed to know her and had nothing but great things to say about her as a person.
Once I met Holly, I understood what everyone was talking about! She was so full of genuine warmth, compassion and understanding.
I felt so enlightened and excited to bring baby into the world with the support of a fellow mother and Doula! Holly was so encouraging and most importantly, she totally believed in me.She listened to all of concerns and helped me to work through some of my fears. It was a very powerful feeling to have the support of such a lovely and caring women.
I did end up having a natural vbac with a sweet baby girl! I chose to have a hospital birth and Holly was by my side the entire time. I can still hear her calm, reassuring, capable and encouraging words guiding through each contraction and ultimately, the delivery.
My husband also felt so happy to have had Holly with us. The pressure was no longer all on him! Holly helped him to help me.
We absolutely loved our experience and hope to work with Holly again in the future if we have our third baby!
I was so thankful for Holly's help with my first child (support pre-labour, during labour and specifically with breastfeeding support postpartum) that as soon as I knew I was pregnant with my second I asked her right away to be my Doula again.
Some people questionned me as to why I would want that support with my second, since now I should "know what I'm doing". I knew that each pregnancy and delivery are different and how vital a role she played in my first experience. Boy was I glad I asked!
I had a healthy pregnancy right until the third trimester when things became complicated. I was overwhelmed with life and she was such a blessing. She directed me specifically to all sorts of research so that I was empowered to make challenging but educated decisions regarding my labour. During labour, when I was struggling with fear, Holly was calm, loving and gently reminded me of my choices in a non-judgemental way. That labour was one of the toughest things I have ever done and I can't think of anyone more suitable for the role she played.
I now have two beautiful boys and my husband and I consider Holly to be a big part of our healthy and happy birth experiences.
Thank you again, Holly!
Holly was referred to me through a friend of mine who had used Holly as her doula and had nothing but amazing things to say about her and the support she offered. And now, I am the one who is wanting to share with all what a great birthing companion she was for me. Holly's personality and character fit so perfectly with being a doula. She is kind, softspoken, gentle-spirited, and a terrific listener. She was very knowleagable in all aspects of the pregnancy, birthing and post-partum if she didn't know something, she went out of her way to find some information. She is a confident and calm person - two characteristics that i think make her such a wonderful support in the face of challenges.
One of the many ways I appreciated Holly's services was in how she encouraged my husband to be my main anchor and she helped coach him in ways to help me. I was so grateful to have them both there throughout my labour as I needed both of their attention. I think it would have been much more challenging having only my husband as this was his first time too! They were also able to take turns in order to give each other a break and when if was intense they were both able to come alongside me.
Holly was a huge part of my positive birthing experience and I will treasure the memories of my firstborn son. I sincerely hope that, God willing I have another, she will be there to encourage me again.
Thank you Holly!
Holly is a very warm person, and my husband and I felt at ease with her from our first meeting. The prenatal and postpartum visits helped put my mind at ease, and prepared me for becoming a mother. During labour, Holly's presence was very comforting. She suggested different movements to help the baby get into position, and enabled me to labour at home for as long as possible, just like I wanted to. She said exactly what I needed to hear at the right time, and encouraged me to listen and trust my body. I wanted to labour at home and have a natural labour, and Holly gave helpful suggestions and encouragement that enabled me to do this. I felt empowered after I gave birth, and Holly played an important role in assisting me through labour. I am so grateful to Holly for her loving service!
