My husband and I loved having Kristen as our doula. She has a wonderful and calming presence that helped both my husband and me.  In the last weeks before the birth, I was a nervous wreck!  Kristen was great at helping me stay calm and we talked about different excerises I could do.  She was always available and very positive, even when I was feeling my most pregnant!

Even though this was my third pregnancy, each time has been different, this labor came fast and hard.  When I went into labor she was there every step of the way:  walking the halls, suggesting different positions, giving encouragement, and holding my hand.

I really cannot say enough good things about Kristen!  She is the best!

When I was pregnant, I was living in Turkey, with a plan to come home to Maine to have the baby.. Therefore, my search was done online- I wrote to as many doulas in or near Portland, Maine as possible, explaining my situation and what I was looking for. Kristen is the only one who cared enough to follow up after my email account was hacked, and I had to start all over. Kristen cam through for me right from the get go! When I got home to Maine in May, 2012, Kristen and I met at Standard Baking Company and sat outside and discussed my birth plan, her flexible schedule, and just got to know one another. I felt thoroughly comfortable with her, she was so personable, easy going and understanding that it felt like I'd known her all my life. On the morning when my water broke, and I was admitted to the hospital, she arrived with the most perfect timing- just before they were inserting the IV. She stayed by my side while we waited for the Pit ocon to kick in, like a guiding light, she never left my side. I referenced to her for calmness, confidence, and because I knew she believed in my ability to have a vaginal birth. And I knew that she was experienced and knowledgable, and had support of her own, supporting her in her role as a doula. She just emanated trust in the hospital staff that they knew what they were doing, and that might have been my biggest saving grace. Because I hadn't wanted a hospital birth, but my insurance did not cover a home birth, and I had meconium, so I would have had to have a hospital birth, even if I hadn't planned to. i had an induced birth with no epidural, which from what I've heard is more painful than normal birth. I was screaming in agony (i didn't want the epidural to work against the Pitocin and land me on the operating table). But through it all, Kristen stayed strong, and about twenty hours from her arrival, my son was born, and she was the only one standing there beside me to receive the best news - my son was healthy!

I couldn't be more grateful to have had Kristen as my doula. Shes simply an amazing asset to an expectant mom and family.

Kristen was such a calming presence not only for me but for my husband as well! She was able to interpret doctor talk and offer support from the first thought of pregnancy through delivery and post partum. She had a presence that made my husband really feel involved amad connected to every part of the pregnancy. She also offered him someone to talk to, which ensured a strong partner for me all the time!

From first trimester sickness that I swore was going to be the end of me, to the back spasms that triggered contractions way too early, Kristen was there. She listened to my worries, frustrations, excitements, and was prepared to handle all the emotional meltdowns and freak outa that came along with it. She endured over 27 hours of an enduced overdue pregnancy with back labor with a first time mom for her first delivery and her strength and support never waivered. She was always available, positive and ready to be my advocate. She made sure my wishes were honored by my Dr.'s and nursing staff from check in to check out.

I wasn't the only one impressed with her skills! My mother, mother in law and all the staff at the hospital commented what a wonderful support she was- and not one of them could believe it was the first birth she was a part of.

I'm so glad she was there then and continues to be there now. Even when I lived hundreds of miles away in my second pregnancy, she would call, check in, mentor, and support from afar. Each of my pregnancies had some unexpected hurdles, and I am so glad to have had Kristen in my corner. I can't say enough amazing things about her. Being a Doula is what she was born to do!
