Attends hospital births? All Hospitals
I am the member of your birth team that is there for you and your family only. I have no conflicts of interest in assisting you. I work to facilitate conversation with medical staff but I do not speak for you. I have a bachelor's degree in human and microbial biology, a minor in human nutrition and dietetics. I can discuss options with you in private so that you have a better understanding of what questions to ask hospital staff.
Attends birth center births? All Birth Centers
I have completed the Advanced Practice Doula Training at Mountain Midwifery Center. I have great relationships with many local birth centers and a deep respect for the experienced and amazing midwives in our community! I love all of the options that are available! I have a package just for birth center families!
Attends home births? Some Home Births
I love assisting birthing families to birth at home. Home birth is a special and beautiful event. I liken myself to water and will fit whatever mold you need me to, whether that means making healthy and nutritious food for your family, taking care of an older sibling, taking your dog out for a walk, cleaning, taking pictures or video, or hands-on support. I thoroughly enjoy working with your midwife or family physician to help you feel the most supported in your birth. I have a special package just for home birthing families!

I am so glad I found Megan. Her help saved me. her instructions was so on point and she is just so patient and very eager to help.

Her approach is straight forward that it made me wonder why the lactation consultants at the hospital didn't instruct me the way she did. Everyone was ready to tell me i can just supplement.

My baby was born 7 1/2 weeks early And very tiny for his age.

He was at the NICU for the first three weeks of his life. Few days after we brought him home, my husband got diagnosed with cancer and underwent brain surgery a few days after finding out

Friends and doctors suggested that with what we were going through, it would be a lot easier to formula feed. Heck, I was supplementing 1x a week anyway because I thought I wasn't pumping enough milk.

I was relying on food supplements, and constantly researching on how to increase milk supply so I would make enough milk That I thought couldnt produce

Finally, i decided to meet with Megan as a last resort. I have met with lactation specialists when Dash was in the NICU but I was told that Dash was too young that he wasn't ready to breastfeed without burning too much calories and those calories were needed for him to gain weight. (We weren't even "allowed" to let him cry for a long time because crying burns calories!). And, when he's finally big enough to breastfeed, he wasn't interested!! He wanted nothing to do with me. He just wanted his bottle.

Meeting with Megan was the best breastfeeding decision i made.

I admit i had ill feelings at the beginning when I started solely breastfeeding But, it got easy! A lot easier than I thought. I thought I would be in pain forever. It doesn't hurt now! I thought Dash wasn't getting enough milk because I have small breasts. He is getting enough, he looks healthy. It's amazing what a mom's body can do for her baby.

Thanks, Megan!!!

I highly recommend Megan Dempsey as a doula. She was my doula for the birth of my first child, recommended to me by a friend who had also used her doula services. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Megan.

My interactions with Megan were comforting and supportive. She asked me what I envisioned about the birth process and answered all of my questions thoroughly. She had a calm, holistic approach and demeanor, and had science and evidence-based facts to back up her answers and opinions.

Megan maintained close contact with me in the months before my due date. She checked in with me after I had my OBGYN appointments and gave me information on anything I had questions about. As I began outlining my birth plan, Megan provided me with resources to give me more options, ensuring that I came up with a plan that suited me. Overall, I wanted my experience to be intervention-free and as natural as possible. Thanks to Megan, that was exactly what I got.

Megan was with my husband and I in the hospital from 9:30 am on Sunday morning until 4:00 pm on Monday afternoon. She kept me moving and motivated, provided my husband with support and relief, and helped answer any questions I had as doctors and nurses filtered in and out of my room. The nursing staff at the hospital was amazed at how calm I was during labor, one nurse even saying I restored her faith in natural childbirth! The only intervention I needed was an analgesic to allow me to take an uninterrupted nap. I stuck to my birth plan and had my son naturally, with no epidural and no stitches/tearing. I firmly believe that this was thanks to Megan and her efforts. After my son was born Megan noticed that he had a tongue-tie, and we were able to take care of it very quickly, allowing him to nurse more effectively.

She is so knowledgeable about babies, breastfeeding, and the birthing process, and she has been my go-to resource ever since I met her.

As a first time mother and RN, I can truly appreciate Megan's dedication to providing quality, evidence based education. Megan has an extensive knowledge base ranging from western medicine to alternative and complementary medicine and modalities.

From our first appointment, she provided us with articles and evidence based practices about childbirth to get us started. As our relationship developed, the dozens of questions that we came up with were thoughtfully and thoroughly answered with up to date information. As the pregnancy progressed, we learned that a Cesarean section was a likely outcome. While we viewed this as a huge disappointment, Megan didn't miss a beat, and had family friendly Cesarean articles and sample birth plans in our inbox within a day.

Through the ups and downs of our pregnancy, Megan was there every step of the way. Her demeanor is calm and compassionate.  Megan was always punctual, and never made us feel rushed during our appointments. She made time to be present for our ECV, even though we only had a couple of days notice to give her. At every appointment, whether in our home or at the hospital, she was always professional and authentic. She is, without a doubt, someone we could always rely on.

Megan's commitment to the community is shown through her desire to serve others regardless of their personal situations or background. Empowering families with education and preparation to have the most positive birth experience is her main objective. Her connections within the community are widespread. She had excellent recommendations within my own community for acupuncture, chiropractic care and support groups.

I am confident that Megan's experience and expertise in the field of childbirth will be well suited towards expecting families. I would whole heartedly recommend her to anyone seeking support from an evidence based doula.
