I quite simply could not have had a natural, unmedicated birth experience without Heidi. My husband and I felt even after her first prenatal visit in our home that her services were well worth the cost. Her experience, knowledge, and communication style came together as a perfect fit for us as first time parents. We found she was most helpful in painting a picture for us of what childbirth would really be like (in a way that no OB would or could ever take the time to do) and in her very hands-on role throughout the entire 14-hour labor in the hospital. She is emotionally supportive yet direct and incisive. Listens carefully and patiently yet is efficient with her time. I was relieved and empowered to have her by my side, given she did not promote any agenda of her own other than to help us articulate and implement the experience WE wanted. I cannot emphasize enough how critical her involvement was, in ways ranging from being able to distill and interpret communication from hospital staff, challenging me to try different productive labor techniques, weighing in on how to interpret circumstances at any given moment, keeping my husband calm and feeling in control, and empowering me as a positive voice and presence at all times.
I knew I wanted the emotional female support a doula would provide, but I also knew I needed someone who wouldn't simply coddle me or act solely as cheerleader. I wanted someone who would also lead and direct me, tell me not just what I wanted but what I needed to hear, and present a certain level of assertiveness that could stand up to the variety of personalities and other influences in the room, including my husband's. Having a birth doula for our first child was a good idea for us, but having Heidi in particular made that decision truly one of the most important and beneficial as we start our family.
We cannot say enough positive things about our experience with Heidi as our doula. From our first meeting, she was extremely flexible, knowledgeable and supportive, and we knew from the start that she was a great match for us. Throughout the pregnancy she was very responsive anytime we had questions and took the time to ease our concerns as well as explain concepts and things for us to think about. We felt very prepared for the birth as a result of our experience with Heidi and thinking through various aspects of the delivery with her. She is extremely patient, open and positive, and really takes the time to understand our preferences and support them. When Heidi arrived at the hospital we felt immediately reassured to have her there, and she was a supportive and helpful coach, thinking of things before we did and giving us encouragement when we needed it. We are so happy with our choice to work with Heidi and think a great part of our smooth and successful delivery had to do with her. We would recommend her without hesitation to anyone who is looking for a highly professional, knowledgeable and supportive doula and we hope to use her again in the future!
Heidi was a wonderful doula. As first-time parents my husband and I were feeling overwhelmed by the birth process and were unsure of and nervous about so many things. After our first meeting with Heidi we both felt super comfortable with her and more at ease. She is down to earth, calm, collected, and such a great resource. She was able to give me the support, encouragement, and knowledge I needed to feel empowered and calm during the birth of my son. Everyone's birth experience is different and rarely goes "according to plan" but having Heidi there to help us navigate the process and cheer us on was so greatly appreciated!
Heidi supported me and my family during the birth of my second daughter in July 2016. The best way I can describe Heidi is that she is intelligent and warm, and uses both those qualities to provide whatever kind of support you need. Her approach is to provide women with the support they want and need, not to apply her vision of what that support should look like. What stands out to me was how Heidi helped me bring on my inner strength to get through the challenging parts instead of letting me doubt myself when I felt overwhelmed. That was exactly what I needed. She is also direct and takes action where appropriate, but is clear and conscientious about her role as a doula in respect to partners, nurses, and doctors. We spent a lot of time in preparation talking about the process and what would happen at age stage, so that I felt confident, which helped me experience my daughter’s birth as transformative, empowering, and serene. I am very thankful that I had the opportunity to meet Heidi and work with her.
As a first time mother I knew my husband and I would be overwhelmed prior to and during the birth of our daughter. I had a longer than expected induction and Heidi stayed with us the entire time. She was patient, offered different options when things didn't work, and helped explain a lot of medical procedures that we were not familar with. The before and after visits were helpful as well! She's got a gentle manner and will be a great addition to your birth!
Heidi was my doula for the birth of my first child on Sept 7, 2016. I interviewed several doulas in person and by phone but when I spoke to Heidi I immediately sensed a difference. She had questions for me and also seemed very down to earth. My husband and I appreciated the two visits to our home to discuss our birth plan and practice some techniques for delivery. Although not much went as planned, Heidi was great in the delivery room. She arrived when I asked and did everything she could to keep me comfortable. I was extrememly emotional and she was super encouraging. She also made sure that I had popscicles and even fed me countless cups of jello. She was willing to speak with my family members when I did not have the energy to do so. Overall, she was a huge help and I can't imagine what the experience would have been like without her.
We had a great experience with Heidi! She was patient and took the time to get to know us when we met with her before the birth, and she was easily able to tailor her care to our situation. I felt prepared and confident going into the birth (it was my first), and she did a great job keeping me calm and relaxed even as things didn't go exactly as I'd imagined. The AC was out in the delivery wing for our June birth, and she didn't complain even as she sweat through my hours and hours of labor! Finally, this may seem like a small thing, but the photos that she took (at our request) of the cord cutting and the moments right after the birth are some of my favorites.
Heidi was an invaluable help before, during, and after the birth of my son. Her presence was greatly calming in the delivery room and her skill in anticipating my needs during the birth really put my mind at ease. She's warm, knowledgeable, and tireless (we were in the delivery room for about 16 hours). If we try for a second, I will definitely be giving Heidi a call!
We got in touch with Heidi and immediately noticed what a wonderful person she is. She does everything in her power to make you feel comfortable, even if it comes at her expense. She is open and caring, and had helped us tremendously during labor. She is knowledgeable on the subject, and gave us good advice. She stayed with us for over 34 hours straight (!!) in the delivery room. Without her we would have probably had a C-section. Heidi spoke to the doctors and they said we can give it another shot, and the C-section was avoided. We know our experience with Heidi is not unique, and would gladly recommend anyone having concerns about labor & delivery to hire her for assistance and hand-holding. It makes all the difference in the world.
Heidi was a fantastic doula! We highly recommend her. She was a wonderful resource for us during the pregnancy and a great comfort during labor. This was our first baby and we didn't know what to expect. The notion of natural childbirth was daunting, but Heidi helped demystify the process and provided us with the confidence necessary to achieve the labor and delivery we wanted. If you can get Heidi on your team, you should count yourself lucky.
Heidi is a strong advocate for the laboring mother in the delivery room. I had my third baby in a hospital that was not friendly to natural/unmedicated births. Knowing I would need someone to help communicate my needs and wishes, I turned to Heidi to make sure I was understood and that I understood what my providers needed from me. If a provider tried to push something I didn't like, she asked questions until we both understood why an intervention or technique was medically necessary. She was loving, helped me focus and made sure I felt safe and in control at all times. Heidi played a huge part in solidifying my birth plan, which was something I was having a hard time wrapping my head around. She came prepared with different ideas and techniques for relaxation. Super professional while also being down to earth. Go with Heidi! It'll be the best decision you make for your birth.
I highly recommend Heidi! She is a fantastic doula and a wonderful person! I went in to have my 5th baby with a lot of fear and anxiety as my previous birth experience had been very traumatic. This time, with Heidi by my side, I had a completely different experience. She anticipated my needs with confidence and comfort. She coached me with exercises that essentially helped me avoid a C-section. I felt her presence both energizing and calming. Heidi was also a wonderful support to my husband as she guided him in how to help me and become an active participant in the process. I was likewise relieved to see how well Heidi worked with my doctor and the nurses at the hospital. My husband and I both experienced the birth of our last son as a sacred, uplifting event that we will treasure for a lifetime. It was a blessing to have Heidi there with us to make that happen.
