From the first phone call with Jamie, I felt like we really clicked and she totally got where I was coming from as a data-driven person who hoped to experience unmedicated labor with my second child after a discouraging experience with my first. I found Jamie to be warm, funny, knowledgeable, incredibly supportive, and really understanding of my needs before, during, and after labor. She seemed to be reading my mind during labor and was able to say or do exactly what I needed in the moment. The example that sticks out most is when, after some intense active labor, my midwife said I was 5 cm. Although I'm not sure if it showed on my face, I was immediately deflated because it brought me back to the frustrating experience I had during my first labor (which ultimately resulted in my choice to get an epidural). In the same split second I was having this thought, Jamie said something like, Remember that you can go from 5 to 10 cm in an hour, and you've been having really productive contractions so far. Jamie knew that as a numbers person that was exactly what I needed to hear at that moment, and it kept me from getting discouraged. (And baby did arrive like 60-90 minutes later!) She was also very accessible during the post-partum phase, providing much-needed empathetic but level-headed support.
Jamie was amazing! We are first time parents and Jamie made us feel so comfortable and calm. Whenever I had a question or was worried she was always there to take the call, at any time of the day. She shared great calming techniques that my husband could do to support me. We really appreciated having Jamie by our side as our doula for our first baby girl!
Jamie is phenomenal. Having a doula was very important to me & my birth plan. Jamie understood my wishes and preferences & supported everything I wanted. Having her made me feel nothing but supremely confident & secure about having a positive birth experience. When the day came, 9 days early at that, Jamie was there and ready to roll! She supported and coached and was hands on with me & my husband. I felt safe & empowered with her as my doula. My labor was such a beautiful experience and that’s thanks to Jamie and her expertise, demeanor, dedication, knowledge & attitude. I could go on and on about how wonderful she is and how amazing my daughters birth was. If you’re looking for a doula and the best birth you could possibly have, call Jamie.
My husband and I took a childbirth class with Jamie and based on that experience asked her to be our doula. She was incredible both as a teacher and doula! My birth ended up being more complicated with an unplanned c-section and she was calming and supportive throughout. She also checked in on me and my family a few times. Even now, I know I could reach out to her with questions and she would be there for support. Highly, highly recommend!
When I pictured hiring a doula, I pictured a wild, hippie woman (because a wild, hippie woman is sometimes what I aspire to be!). But then I met Jamie, and I realized SHE was the type of doula I actually wanted: Grounded in science and practice, with a touch of earthy, womanly wisdom. So if you're looking for a doula firmly in the real world with a touch of wonder & mystical support, Jamie is your gal.
- Easily reachable (we called her at 3am while in labor)
- Wryly funny to put us at ease during our prenatal appointments
- Fun to talk to and easy to hang with in silence
- Amazing with her hands (her hip presses cut the intensity of a contraction down IN HALF)
- Very communicative (she gave us lots of head's up that we might have her backup during our labor)
- Right on that we would give birth during the full moon :)
After taking Jamie's class on labor and delivery, my husband and I were confident that we also would like her to be our doula. Especially because this would be the birth of our first child, we felt strongly about having someone to help support us through the process. Looking back on my labor experience, I truly have absolutely no idea what we would have done without Jamie. I had to be induced three weeks earlier than expected and was incredibly overwhelmed and scared by the amount of decisions I would have to make that day and with the thought of going into labor so early. Throughout the entire process, Jamie helped explain every option that was presented to us and was a sounding board for any decisions that we needed to make. She was an incredible advocate for my care to the nurses and doctors, sometimes asking for things I hadn't even thought to ask of. Beyond that, my husband and I felt that Jamie went above and beyond in her care for us. He was able to get rest during the night as she helped to take care of me and when there were things in our hospital bag that we forgot, Jamie seemed to have it! Jamie is an incredible coach, cheerleader, advocate, calming voice, and the doula that you'll want to have by your side during one of the craziest moments of your life. SO thankful for her and the incredible service and care that she provides.
