Leah Wilner-Deutsch

I am so glad that my husband and I had Crystal to guide us for the birth of our son. Crystal is easy to talk to and knowledgeable about the process of childbirth. She is open minded and does not try to push any particular philosophy. She supported my choice to labor first for a long time without an epidural (which would have been much harder without her!) and later she supported my choice to get an epidural. Even though my son ended up being born by C-section (due to some complications) I feel satisfied with my birth experience thanks to Crystal’s presence!

Having Crystal as my doula felt like I was being looked after by my best friend! When I labored at home and then the hospital, Crystal seemed to sense what was needed without us having to tell her. She kept me calm during my early contractions by chatting about this and that. I remember her putting on soothing background music with her phone and tucking me into bed under blankets on my living room couch. My husband was able to take a much needed nap while Crystal kept me company. Later she helped me with position suggestions and massaged my feet or back when she sensed that I needed a calming touch. The nurses were all impressed with Crystal and she was a valuable resource when communicating my wishes and needs. My husband and I are shy and quiet and it was amazing to have a professional advocate with us.

Not only did Crystal support me during pregnancy and childbirth, but she also came to visit us at home and brought us gifts- baby clothes for our son, lactation tea for me, and homemade meatballs and apple bread for my husband and I. Several weeks later she dropped off a baby swing. It is clear to me that Crystal loves what she does and she goes above and beyond her contracted role. She has the perfect mix of knowledge, professionalism, and caring that I think make a great doula! If we decide to have another baby in a few years I would love to have Crystal by my side again!
