Birth Fee: $600 to $900
Fee Details: I have a sliding scale dependent on what a family feels they can afford and also how far I need to travel for home visits and the birth. I do my best to accommodate special circumstances as I feel every birthing woman should have the option of continuous doula care. My fee includes one or more prenatal visits, as I help you prepare for your birth and supplement your childbirth education as needed, including recommending books from my lending library; continuous labor support through 1-2 hrs after your baby is born; plus at least one postpartum visit at your home.
Birth Doula Experience: 4 years and 25 births attended

To help support my belief that every birthing woman should be able to have a doula, I have been a member of the Volunteer Doula Program at the St. Joseph Medical Center Family Birth Center in Tacoma for 2 plus years. I volunteer whenever possible for my Puget Sound based doula certifying organization PALS.org to get the word out in in my local communities about how beneficial doulas can be for birthing families, and to promote PALS and help at their advance training workshops.

As a husband and now a proud father of a handsom little boy, I was nervous about being able to help my wife through the birthing process. It was a very different world and a new roadmap to navigate. The birthing process ended up not being an easy one, and I truly can't imagine getting through without Laura's help. She helped us through a myriad of comfort measures with demonstration and coaching to find the best techniques that worked for us. As the labor progress past the 36 hr mark, Laura was able to help by wife get some much needed rest and the two of use were able to tag team in a way that I never could have on my own. Nurses came and left as shifts changed over, but it was wonderful to have the consistency and advocacy of an expert in her field. If we decide to have another child, I won't think twice before asking for her help. I wouldn't want to try it without her.
As a first time Mom I was slightly apprehensive about giving birth. I had heard wonderful things about hiring a doula to help coach me and my husband through labor and delivery as well as be a support system for questions leading up to my due date. When we had our first meeting with Laura Vilage we knew immediatly that she would be a great help to us! Laura is very informative, eager and open to your individual needs. Laura put my mind at ease by her willingness to be available for questions and being very easy to get a hold of once I went into labor.
Leading up to my labor and delivery she helped me figure out what I thought I would need to calm me and help me throughout the process as naturally as possible. As soon as Laura arrived and met us at the hospital I felt a sigh of relief knowing that I had another person to support my physical and mental needs. She aided my husband by providing another hand to push on my hips and back during each of my contractions. Laura has fantastic energy and endurance. I truly believe her presence and help was a huge part of my success in having an all natural labor and delivery!
I highly recommend Laura as a doula, I plan to have a second child some day and will no doubt call Laura to my aid once again!
