I cannot say enough about Jessica. From the moment we met her, during our initial consultation, we knew we wanted Jessica to be present during the birth of our first child. Jessica was extremely knowledgeable, encouraging, caring, soft spoken, and compassionate. During labor, Jessica was helpful and encouraging. She was soft spoken but knew exactly what to say when transition became very difficult. Jessica was extremely helpful in teaching my husband ways to support and soothe me during labor and never left our side. From the initial consultation, throughout the entire birth, to the first latch, and all the way through the postpartum highs and lows, Jessica was always there. Jessica kept in touch with us after the birth and was ALWAYS willing to answer any silly question we had. Our birth experience would not have been the same without Jessica as our doula. I would 110% choose Jessica all over again.
When I was about 25 weeks pregnant, I decided to hire a doula. I'd heard that having a doula makes labor a much more pleasant experience, and this turned out to be true. Jessica made my birth and postpartum experiences some of the best moments of my life.
Her calming energy changed your mindset from one of fear and uncertainty to excitement and pride in what my body could accomplish. Her counter pressure techniques helped me get through 24 hours of labor. It was amazing. My husband was incredible, but had it been just the two of us, I don't think I would have been able to get through 24 hours of contractions. They worked as a team to take care of me, and the physical and emotional comfort I got from them was priceless. Jess taught me a technique to get through each contraction that really worked for me. Again, without her tips and guidance, I really don't believe I could have stuck to my birth plan of a natural delivery. She was a tremendous advocate for me, too. Amidst all the chaos and pain and exhaustion, she remained clear-headed and made sure my nurses and doctor knew my birth plan. She works extremely well with medical staff because she is calm, respectful and reasonable. Our talks before the big day made me excited to be a mom, even though we never explicitly discussed being a mom. I think that knowing what to expect and making a birth plan with another woman made me feel that I was going to join this awesome tribe of strong women. My sense of accomplishment after birth seamlessly turned into the joy of motherhood, and that joy continues to grow with me and my baby every day. My husband, who had been a major doula skeptic at first, gave Jess an enormous hug when it was time for her to go home. We talked for days about our experience, and Jess was part of the story as if she was a member of our family. Seriously.
Every woman deserves to have a positive birth story. Thanks to Jess, we did.
Jessica was an invaluable part of my birthing experience before, during, and even after delivery. I did not have a doula for my first child and I experienced a very difficult and traumatic birth. Though my second child came into this world in much the same fashion, my birthing experience was dramatically different. Jessica's expertise and advice was exactly what I needed to get through that tough last month of pregnancy and even tougher delivery. Her ability to listen to my needs, and offer several different options to ease my mind or my pain, were what made the difference during this second pregnancy and birth. Even after I chose to have an epidural during labor, Jessica was nothing but supportive and accommodating. She truly made my labor and birth exactly what I wanted and supported my decisions. Even after delivery Jessica has been there to support my decision to breastfeed, and offer advice and support during the difficult first days of the process. In short, Jessica truly made a positive and peaceful difference, and I personally would never go through pregnancy or delivery without a doula (Jessica) again.
Jessica supported us for the birth of our daughter in January 2016. Even before the birth, it was clear that Jessica has a true gift for this work. She has a calming, angelic presence, is knowledgeable about pregnancy and birth, and is self-assured and decisive. Jessica first met with us to discuss our preferences and suggested a number of useful things to prepare for our first home birth. She came from a place of humility and respected our journey as unique and personal to us. I liked that she had first-hand experience with VBAC and both in- and out-of-hospital birth, all relevant to me. Jessica did an amazing job leading my Mother Blessing ceremony (Blessingway) - a memory I will cherish forever! The day of the birth, Jessica supported us through what turned out to be a very fast active labor and birth. She was hands-on (as I had requested) and suggested positions and breathing that helped me through the hardest contractions. When things were moving along more quickly than expected and the midwife had not yet arrived, Jessica stayed calm, protected my space, and helped my husband who had a lot on his shoulders himself. In the end, the midwife arrived and we had a peaceful waterbirth for our baby girl. Jessica even took pictures of the birth that are worthy of a magazine! I have no idea how she did it in the midst of the commotion at the end, except that she knew it was important to me and made it happen. After the birth, Jessica checked up on me frequently, helped me process the range of emotions from the birth, and gave me some helpful breastfeeding tips. I know at the time of this birth Jessica was just starting out on her journey as a doula, but she is an old soul and frankly, there are some qualities – qualities that make Jessica a natural – that even experience cannot grow. I will be recommending Jessica to anyone looking for a doula, as I hope many more mothers can experience her gift of support while bringing their babies into the world!
Jessica is an amazing doula that I highly recommend. She was with my husband and I for the birth of our 3rd baby. Our goal was a natural birth and a calm, peaceful environment. We wanted someone who would work with our midwife and nurses well, and Jessica was the perfect fit. She is very knowledgable and confident. She's calm and steady. She's encouraging and supportive. My husband was impressed with her ability to take over for him when he needed a break and trusted her intuition. I felt extremely comfortable with her in all stages of my labor, and she was able to be a huge support to me during such a vital time. She also has followed up with me regularly after the birth, above and beyond, which I needed and appreciated. Jessica is using her natural talents, abilities, and gifts to help other women, and I think she will be an excellent doula to many more amazing women in the future!
