Heather was my Doula for the birth of my son and daughter. Every moment with her was awesome, she was present as soon as I needed her, she was calm and knowledgable, she was supportive of my decisions( even when I deviated from the original plan), she was a support for my husband, she was the perfect Doula! My favourite moment with Heather was when I was in the operating room( she wasn't allowed in because they thought it was going to be a csection) my daughter had just been born via vacuum and I was in a lot of pain and the surgeon says bring the Doula in. She came and stood by my head and put her hand on my hair and I can't describe the feeling of being cared for that took over. I highly recommend Heather as a Doula!

We have had an absolutely amazing experience with the birth of our second child, in large part due to the fantastic Doula services provided by Heather Henson. From our first meeting several months prior to the birth to the postpartum follow-ups, Heather has been informative, supportive and extremely empowering to both my husband and I.

Having experience a very long labour that ended in an emergency cesarean with my first child, I wanted to take advantage of every opportunity available to ensure a successful VBAC birth which included hiring Heather as our Doula. Heather helped provide a lot of credible evidence-based information that better educated us, prepared us, and ultimately empowered us so that we were truly ready for not only the birth itself but for the postpartum period that followed. Her gentle and collaborative approach established a strong rapport between us immediately and she took the time to truly understand what our goals and desires were so that she could best assist us achieving them. She was a strong, calm presence who provided critical support during the birth itself, making it that much sweeter of a moment when our daughter was born 100% naturally.

She helped me develop a greater sense of self, knowing that my body truly could birth easily and naturally; knowing that I was ready and had done everything I could through my pregnancy to help ensure an optimal birth. I strongly recommend Heather's services to anyone having a child, whether it be your first, second, or third, VBAC or not. Her support as our Doula made an incredible difference in our birth experience and we would personally use her again in a heartbeat!

Although I had taken the prenatal class before my first child, I didn't realized I was going into my first labor and birth not fully educated and aware of my choices. After a long medicated labour I ended up a with c-section. After getting pregnant for my second child, I knew I needed someone who could help me achieve a VBAC. I still remember meeting with her for the first time, at a library, like it was yesterday. We connected immediately and I told my husband we are hiring her.
I didn't fully believe in myself that I could have a vaginal birth until I got to talk to Heather. She made me believe in myself. Throughout my pregnancy, we met a few times, discussing all the aspects of labour, many of which I had never even considered. With her help, my husband and I made our birth plan. She fully supported my choices and was non judgmental. As my due date got closer I was worried I would not go into labor on my own. Heather was always reassuring me that we had plenty of time. As it turns out, we did.
Heather met us at the hospital once I went into labour. The drive there I told my husband I can't do this. Why am I trying for a VBAC. Once we got to the hospital, my thoughts completely changed. I was reassured by her that I could do it. She helped me cope through my pain mentally and physically. I breathed through my contractions while her and my husband held my hands encouraging me. After 14 hours of un-medicated labour my baby boy was born vaginally. I couldn't have done it without her guidance and support.
She stayed with me a couple hours afterwards and helped me get baby latched to have a great start to breastfeeding. She followed up within the following week to make sure everything was going good post-partum.
I have since had another successful vaginal birth. The moment I found out I was pregnant; I contacted Heather right away because I know she is a crucial key to a successful birth for me.

From the moment I first met Heather, I knew I wanted to share with her my first birth experience. She is very calm, knowledgeable, respectful and extremeply respectful.

I really enjoyed the prep meetings Before (with a big b) baby. She guided and educated us on the birthing process, our options available in Alberta, and standard practices at the local hospital. She provided her reputable sources that were very interesting books and documentary. We had small homeworks that made us reflect, fuelled our couple discussions and asked her more questions. I was always happily surprised by how unbiased she was when providing information, she never pushed her opinions or trying to convince us of anything. She was very non-judgemental. She was a good support at making us reflect on how we wanted our birth to be. She was not pushing us in having it a certain way. We put a lot of thought in our birth plan which generated a lot of discussion between my husband, the doctor and I. We debated and bargained on few things, but it was such a great tool to communicate our vision. On a side note, I remember feeling sorry for the other new parents in our pre-natal classes, they were getting such a watered down version.

My exact vision of my birthing experience happened:  I laboured without pain relief, using the tens machine and yoga breathing, walking, shower, birthing ball, strong support by my husband and dear doula, in a dim light room with classical music playing in the background. The only intervention was getting my water broken after being at 9cm for 4 hours. I squatted while pushing and extracted my baby myself out of m body and put him on my breasts. I had the exact natural birth I had dreamed of.

I will never be able to thank Heather enough for her constant and dedicated support.

Heather is an amazing doula! She was always there to answer any questions I had throughout my pregnancy. She gave me lots of information and things to think about regarding labor/delivery and especially vbac. Most importantly she was there for me every step of the way during my labor, and was always reminding me to breath and stay calm & focused. I wouldn't have labored, as long as I did without her! My vbac turned cbac, due to unsupportive and impatient doctors. If I ever have another baby she will be right there beside me again for my vba2c!

Heather helped me to feel confident, empowered and excited during my pregnancies, labors and births. She also provided much needed support to my husband and took a lot of pressure off of him. She provided me with information about the birth process which I had not known even though I'd done a fair bit of research; she sent me articles to read, documentaries to watch and was only a text or call away whenever I needed her,  even in the middle of the night. She advocated for me  in the unfamiliar hospital setting amongst doctors and nurses who can be quite intimidating even if I have a plan. During her visits before the birth we worked on labor positions, pain coping tecniques and my feelings/apprehensions to help me feel excited and comfortable. She was my rock during my first birth when things didn't go as planned and I had a c section(she was in surgery with me) and then she helped me have the vbac I had longed for a few years later. I would not have had my vbac if I had not had her support during my labor. Heather was also just a text or call away during my post partum time if I had any questions or concerns, she helped me find the best lactation consultant when I had issues nursing my first. One thing I especially like about Heather is her soothing voice and demeanor, she knows just what to say and how to say it. I would absolutley reccomend Heather to all pregnant women and their support, whichever direction they are planning to go with their birth. The birth of your children is something you remember forever, Heather helps make that such a positive, empowering experience.

As a first time mom, I was full of questions, excitement and fear. Heather provided tireless support, guidance and most importantly for me, lots of factual medical information. While speaking with my health care professionals about hiring a doula, they asserted there would be plenty of nurses on staff to assist me...but I wanted a coach, just for me, on my payroll.
