Kristen helped me have the natural waterbirth experience that I wanted. I went into labor earlier than I expected, so I didn't get a chance to put my birth plan in writing. Fortunately, Kristen had already asked me all the right questions, so she knew all of my preferences and was able to help convey my preferences to the hospital staff. Throughout my labor, she offered me the right things at the right times (water, back rubs, etc.). As the labor pain grew intense, she reminded me about how to breathe through it effectively, which was extremely helpful for managing the pain.
Before I met Kristen, I was a little worried that I wouldn't be comfortable with a stranger helping out with such a personal experience, but I always felt comfortable with Kristen and I'm really glad she was there to provide support. My husband is also very grateful that Kristen was there, since she made helpful suggestions about what he could do and she provided him with reassurance that my labor was going well. If we have another child, we're going to hire Kristen again. We highly recommend Kristen.
I hired Kristen as my doula for my third pregnancy/birth. I wanted my birth experience to be different than my other previous births because I wanted a natual, non medicated birth. Kristen played a huge role in helping me accomplish the birth experience that I wanted. During the birth of my second child, I labored for only three hours. My husband and I expected my third child to come rather quickly. The baby, however had other plans. My labor lasted nineteen hours. Kristen arrived after 5 1/2 hours after my water broke. Once she arrived, I was having contractions with horrible back labor. She tagged teamed with my husband to apply pressure to my lower back. This helped relieve the pain. She offered advice on different postitions to help relieve the back pain. She always kept my water cup full and even went to Zaxby's to get everyone dinner. When the pain got too much, I asked her to pray for me and she did. At that time, I was begging for pain medicine but she calmly reminded me of the birth experience that I desired. She helped me through each contraction, one at a time. Once the baby was born, she stayed by my side while I delievered the placenta. She stayed until I was able to breastfeed my baby. She always arrived on time during home visits. I am glad that I hired Kristen to be my doula. I would highly reccommend her to other women seeking a doula.
As a student, Kristen did exactly what she should have in order to gain knowledge and experience related to the birthing process. She was there for support for myself but also my husband. As Kristen experiences more births I know she will become more and more comfortable with her role as a Doula and be a great asset to any delivery.
