My husband & I agree that had we not had Kristi with us, we’re not sure how we'd have gotten through my labor & eventual delivery of Simon via c-section. She helped me ease through the contractions with everything she knew & her own style of firm but encouraging & soothing, supportive words & touch. I was in labor for about 38 hours & spent the last 4 or 5 hours pushing, only to be told a c-section had become medically necessary for me & our baby. She was & has been greatly supportive nearly the whole time, only taking a small portion of that phenomenally long labor time for her own self care. An amazing feat, seeing as she also has 2 young children of her own, one of whom was barely 6 months old when I went into labor. Not to mention that I may have caught her a little off guard by becoming her first c-section delivery.
Kristi tried to prepare me during my pregnancy for this sort of deviation from my birth preferences. Of course, an expecting mama is never ready to be told that most of her preferences have to be set aside. She has continued to help me postpartum, both with her postpartum visit as our doula & as a friend. While Kristi always has a supportive ear & gentle, self-acknowledging & self-accepting words of encouragement for me, she has also gently pointed me in the direction of ICAN (Iowa Cesarean Awareness Network) for extra support, knowledge & experience on my path to accepting all the unexpected interventions. I still have some issues to work through & accept about Simon’s birth, labor & delivery process we went through, so it was a very helpful nudge.
Postpartum was made more difficult by other complications discovered. We aren't sure we’ll have another child yet. I told Kristi that we'd without a doubt want her with us again, if & when we do. And, with no small amount of humor, that if we do have another child, I swear it won’t be such a long labor.

My wife and I hired Kristi to help us when we had our first child together. I was kind of ignorant about what doulas were, but I had witnessed the previous birth of my now-teenage son years before, and that delivery resulted in stay in the NICU. So I was not without fears about this hospital birth and I was open to having Kristi's assistance and advice. Kristi was essential to guiding my wife through the process, but she was such a help to me as a typical clueless father-to-be. I mean, I know I'm supposed to be supportive, but let's face it, us dads are way out of our element and feel helpless during labor. Kristi was there for us the whole time and helped reassure my wife more quickly and in ways I was less able to pick up on. She was especially helpful in easing my wife's fears and misgivings about abandoning her plan to have a drug-free labor and asking for an epidural when the contractions became too much to bear. All of her advice and support was delivered in a non-judgmental and thoughtful way. After our experience, I don't think I'll ever go into the delivery room without a doula present.

Krisit was an excellent choice for my birth experience. I had a tramatic birth experience for my first and decided I needed additional help for my second. My husband is great but when it comes to birth coaching he is a little out of his element. I needed a calming presence to keep me focused, and Kristi provided that. Leading up to the birth she made sure I knew exactly what I hoped my experience would be, and commited to helping me achieve that. She was a perfect balance of proffesional and friendly. During my birth she listened, and executed all my requests. I appreceiated that she was present when needed, but didn't step on any toes when it came to my husband helping me. I would definetly recommend her to aid you in your birth experience!

Kristi was an exceptional doula. She was attentive and responsive during pregnancy and in it with us through the end. She, my husband and I spent 24 hours moving from labor to delivery. When our son had to be taken to the NICU, she stayed with me while my husband and best friend went with Leo. She was supportive and positive during every part of labor. When I needed reminders of my strength and ability, I never needed to ask, it was intuited and perfectly timed. My husband says we can't have any births without her and I agree :) The three of us meshed so well and were such a good team that one of my nurses asked us all to be her birth team when she has babies! We love her and highly recommend her services.

Kristi was amazing. While the delivery she attended was our second child, it was my first labor experience. We were clueless with no idea how clueless we were! She made it very clear that I could call or text her any time with any question. I had latent labor for a couple days before the big show and she was reassuring and available the whole time, even ocming over to our home with her go bag at 5 AM to help me through contractions and see if they were going to go any where this time. They didn't and she went home as calmly and patiently as she had arrived.

The next morning, I called her again around 5 AM. After listening to my on the phone for a few minutes she told me it was time to go to the hospital (since we were planning a hospital birth, after all) and met me right at the door. From then on, she was there every step I wanted her. She explained all the procedures that I was too distracted to spare thought to. She helped me into different laboring positions for what our goals were, into bed when I needed to rest, into more intense positions when we wanted to encourage the baby along. She made sure that my husband was comfortable and confident the whole time too which was important to me.

She was respectful and supportive of our religious practices as well. When my labor became frighteningly intense, she held my hand as my husband said a special prayer over me, with as much reverence as you could want.

Above and beyond, she took pictures on her own phone of my daughter's birth, a video of her breast crawl, and even my placenta which makes me giggle to this day. After the birth, I needed stitches in the OR and she took control of my service dog (who she didn't even bat an eye at; took the whole thing in stride) so that my husband could focus on the baby and I could focus on me.

She stayed with me until we were settled in our recovery room.

She was love and support personified.
