Ashley was our doula for the birth of our first child, our lovely daughter. Initially, I was hesitant to employ a doula—I thought I could be competent to handle the birth experience. After all, who could know and care for my wife better than myself? As former Ranger-qualified soldier and current law student, I was confident that I could stay calm under pressure and communicate competently with the medical staff.
However, my wife really wanted to at least meet one doula (Ashley) to consider using a doula. After meeting her, I was convinced that she would provide value to our birthing experience. Ashley was organized, professional, dedicated, funny, and respectful at all times during the initial consultation. We hired her, although I still had some reservations, which proved completely invalid.
Our daughter was two weeks past her due date, and long story short, put my wife through 14 hours of labor before ending in an almost-emergency Cesarean section. Ashely was an absolute life-saver, for both me and my wife. She arrived rapidly, and was the calm and collected presence we needed during those trying times in the middle of the night. Through the pain of labor, Ashley was able to provide clear and focused instruction to my wife, helping her manage the process and progress naturally. Beyond that, Ashley allowed me to grab a few minutes of sleep so that when our daughter was born, I was not completely useless. Additionally, the continuity of care she was able to provide was outstanding, especially considering the recurring shift changes in the hospital.
I can truthfully say that our birth experience would have been much more stressful, painful, and disheartening without Ashley’s presence. Ashley’s value easily exceeded her rate. I would strongly recommend Ashley to any family, particularly for those who are unsure about whether a doula is useful or not.
Ashley is AMAZING. I couldn’t be more happier with our birth experience. And I say a big part of us enjoying our birth experience so much is because of her. We chose to only have our midwives and doula there for our birth and it was the best decision for us. Not only has she filled our experience with love she helped us make educated decisions throughout our birth. This is our first child so I had no idea what to expect during labor and delivery. Having her there was such a calming energy. She encouraged me throughout this whole process which allowed me to dig deep in my soul and deliver my baby. She worked so well with each member of our birth team. From having to move from a birth center to a hospital she fit right in with the midwives to the hospital nurses to the delivering doctor. I couldn’t be more pleased with everything and definitely plan to have her at every one of my births. Thank you for allowing us to have you during this special time in our lives. We appreciate you so much.
I actually met Ashley through my original Doula as Ashley was going to be my backup in case the original doula could not come. I am so so thankful for Ashley, from our very first meeting getting to know each other she was so kind and put me at ease. When I went into labor my original Doula was not available but Ashley did not hesitate to come and spend many many hours in the hospital with me walking and doing squats as well as just being there to support me and hold space for me. My other Doula was eventually able to come and Ashley could have gone home but she asked me if it was okay to stay until the baby came and I was sure happy she did. Ashley was so knowledgeable kind and supportive she was everything that I needed during my labor. She was always there to support any of my decisions or answer questions that I had she also had many ideas and techniques to help me along the way during my labor. When I was going through transition I was really having a difficult time and what I remember most is actually looking at me straight in the eye and tell me that I could do it. What seemed like a short while later was when my baby was ready to come out and Ashley was right there holding my hand helping me through it. I honestly can say I don't think I would have gotten through my unmedicated birth without her and I am forever grateful for her. Beyond me and birthing she also helped my husband and 2 5 year old along the birthing process which was so valuable to me. Anytime anyone ever asked me about doulas I always recommend Ashley because she is the best!
My second birth experience was a very positive one and I owe alot of thanks to Ashley. Before the birth she was very supportive, reassuring, and had a wealth of knowledge to offer around birthing and provided a good support to my husband and me. I always knew she was just a text message away. When I began feeling anxious and fearful getting closer to my due date, she put me at ease which helped me relax my mind and body which supported me laboring peacefully and naturally. When labor began and my mind was focused on controlling pain she kept careful watch on my progression and got us moving to the hospital when time came. All I had to do was reach out my hand and she was there for me :) I felt safe and supported with Ashley and she was a most welcome presence in my birth story. I would most definately recommend Ashley to my friends and loved ones and will seek out her services in the future.
Wow, where to start! Ashley is simply an amazing woman with such a passion for helping others. She kept in contact with me from day one, sending me encouraging texts, phone calls, asking if I needed anything, offering to visit with me even more than I expected. She definitely kept me going till the end. I did a home birth and she was there from the second I called her over... Always happy and encouraging, which is exactly what I needed. She made me food, took extra steps to make sure my husband was doing well throughout, etc. Ashley was such a breath of fresh air during my intense contractions, rubbed my back, talking softly to me, offering me sips of water, rebozo and basically anything and everything I needed. I just messaged her today telling her how sad I was that our journey together was over, I will truly miss her. I can't say enough good things about her!
